    10 heads are so 1984 im glad it converted itself to 9 to keep with the times

    That drive looks so cool, it’s a bummer that the top head decided it didn’t belong here anymore

      Probably would have stuck around a little longer had the shipper decided to use packing material more substantial than loosely packed paper! Least it works at all...

    Imagine how heavy that head assembly is compared to modern drives, no wonder seek times were so poor back in the days

      truly a beast of a head assembly. The speed and precision still impresses me though, even if the modern drives are far beyond these

      @@raddysurrname7944 for sure. I think it is even more amazing on drives with stepper motors that can keep up with the precision needed to operate the drive reliably at the same time

    Interesting drive. A shame the last head broke

    That is one beautiful drive on the inside! That certainly wasn't a cheap drive when it was new, definitely on the higher end side and the precision and care gone into the assembly and quality is astonishing to look at! Are those green blobs that route the head wiring some sort of epoxy to keep the wires in place? I haven't seen a glue or way of securing the head wires that large before, almost like an olive green color. I really like the skeleton actuator that drive has!

    Hey i need help with this laptop GATEWAY LT2016u (KAV60) i wanted to know if it could hold a 2gb ram memory or even 3gb without exploding, also wanted to know if it would be able to hold a ssd hard disk.
    Please i would love your help because i could find to much information about this old computers.

      If the machine doesn’t support 2gb or more ram it either won’t detect all of it, or won’t boot at all. No risk of explosions here

    In those times bad sectors were listed on case when they leaved the factory :) 500 is not much if not in one spot

    • @the731272
      @the731272  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      500 is certainly more than any drive would have left the factory with, but I understand the sentiment. This drive does not even have a defect list on it - but given the harsh treatment in shipping it endured and all the debris flying around inside from the headcrash, they are definitely grown bad sectors in this case.
