Taeyang and BigBang are 2nd generation k-pop. BTS is 3rd generation. Taeyang has been Jimin’s role model since Jimin started. Jimin idolizes him. There’s an acoustic version of this song that most of us liked better than this MV. Also, I know you haven’t started watching Suga’s talk show, Suchwita, but he interviews various Korean (mainly idols) celebrities, including Taeyang (he’s so humble and sweet), along with all the BTS members. Each episode is about 30 minutes and it is an EXCELLENT way to get to know the members better. Even if you just watch the ones with the members- you’ll love it.

Others have mentioned who Taeyang is so I'll address why Taeyang is often shirtless. In Korean society, there is a lot of colorism. The whiter your skin is the better. If your skin is darker toned that means you're of a lower class.
When BigBang (Taeyang's group) was first starting out, Taeyang was constantly criticized for being "too dark" to be an idol. In concerts when he took his shirt off, the crowd would go crazy and it became a symbolic way of him showing the haters that his "too dark" skin had people screaming and going nuts.
His biggest solo hit: Eyes, Nose, Lips was a song written to his one and only girlfriend (later his wife) when she had broken up with him. In the video, it's just him shirtless (like D'Angelo) laying bare his vulnerability to her in the lyrics of the song as well as visually by literally being naked. Also, by being shirtless you can tell he's actually singing in the video, not lip-syncing which is standard for videos, because of the way his muscles in his abs are moving.
So there's a bit more than just "sexiness" when he's shirtless.
@lilithofnod you get it. He was an early one showing these “beauty standards” aren’t everything. It doesn’t erase the overall social standards, but BB just like BTS (being built on a lot more than visuals, having members with dark and lighter members, double and mono eyelids, different face structure and body types) they added more creativity and talent as the focal point. Looks obviously still mattered, but they showed there’s more than one way to be a pretty idol

The making of the video warms my heart because not only does Jimin get to work with his idol but Taeyang is such a good guy and admires Jimin as well and sings his praises. Its a really genuine friendship they have now.They are very similar in style in many ways as well. I would love another collab with these 2. The live in studio recording session is good too.
Taeyang is deathly allergic to shirts, skin lighteners, and problems. He is one of the Grand Daddies of Korean entertainment who was a member of the group BTS idolized before they even got together. BigBang was THE group before BTS.
They were the first to have an official light stick (designed by their leader, The one and only G-Dragon - Taeyang's childhood friend). First to introduce brightly colored hair to K-pop. The first to have real rappers, the first group who write all of their own songs. They are the first group to put out a themed multi-album series, first to launch an official fan-club. Other groups had fan clubs before them, but not one that was founded and named by the group.
Taeyang is one of the few idols that didn't hide his dating life or marriage. Most idols before him retired when they got married. Taeyang said "let me just put my wife in my MVs and I will still pass on that shirt, thank you." He is a devoted husband, father, Christian (all his tattoos are related to his faith) and role model for younger idols like Jimin.
You should watch the making of for this MV - it's absolutely adorable to see Jimin get all nervous around his sunbae (older colleague).
I remember Suga teasing Jimin that he was so excited about working with Taeyang, he wouldn't talk about anything else. When Taeyang went on Suchwita to promote his album and the Vibe collab with Jimin, Suga basically exposed all of Jimin's fanboy behavior - how he as a teenager would practice all of Taeyang's and Big Bang's songs and choreo and talk about them incessantly. Taeyang was very flattered and said that he loves Jimin and his work as well.

Taeyang has been called the best R and B singer in Korea. He did solo tours for years before going into the military. Now he is out, and doing it again, at the same time as living a life dedicated to his wife and child. He is the epitome of graciousness, very humble and respectful. And he looks better than ever. The live version of Vibe is even better, and I even like the Behind the Scenes. I cam´t recommend the Suchwita talk shows that Suga hosts more highly. They are excellent, and so enjoyable. The interview with Taeyang on Suchwita is great. If you are looking for quality docu videos, that show would be a great choice-

OMG, you are hilarious! Please don’t ever change! LOVE this song so much. Love that Jimin finally got to do a collab with someone that he has admired and looked up to forever. There is footage of Jimin singing Taeyang’s songs back the day. Behind the scenes shows Jimin’s sharing that. Live version is worth your time. Big Bang and Taeyang are legends.

Suga interviewed Taeyang and totally outted Jimin as a fanboy of Taeyang. Explaining how he would practice singing and even talking like him. But actually BTS all admired Big Bang and wanted to be like them... Which got them in a lot of trouble early on. In the Korean music industry it was seen as wrong for this new group from a tiny & poor company to even put themselves out there as Big Bang fans. A lot of the early hate against BTS came from this. This was explained in their book "Behind the Story". Taeyang and Suga now live in the same condo building. I think you would enjoy reacting to Suchwita.. Suga's interview show... and especially this interview as well as his interviews with members of BTS.

Someone was talking about SUGAs talk show love it! The episode with JK and he won’t leave is one of my favorites. The look on SUGAs face when JK days he’s not ready to leave and he does it over and over again is hilarious. You can tell how much loves this kid. A must watch.
This was taeyang’s solo comeback after like 6 years. Bigbang barely come out with album. So when they did, they really put it all out. Taeyang is part of bigbang, debuted in 2006. Making them a 2nd generation of kpop. The pioneers to a lot in kpop industries. Do check them out or taeyang. Them forever legend never dies down.

Seriously though, Taeyang is known for having his short of in - at least part - of all music videos. Big Bang is a 2nd Generation Idol Group, and BTS is 3rd Generation. Jimin was excited (and a little nervous) to work with one of his heroes (you should see Yoongi talk to him on Suchwita - watching Suga fanboy is something else).
For his part, Taeyang only had good things to say about Jimin. Even saying that Jimin reinvigorated him, and inspired him to work harder.
