He was my headmaster :) I was at Durnford from 1980 to 1983. I then went to QEGS. I loved Mr. Brisk. Even my parents loved him. He stood in for lessons when a teacher was off. He was fabulous. I so wish he is still alive and well today :)
Can’t believe I have only just discovered this video of my old school! , was there between 85 and 88, Mr Brisk was a fabulous head teacher. Thanks for making this.
Hi Steve. You may not remember me. We were in quite a few classes together. You and I moved up from level 2 maths up to level 1 after enduring lessons on Roman Numerals!!!
I went to Durnford from 1980 to 1983, before moving on to QEGS. My favourite school years were at Durnford. I fell in love for the first time. Had my heart broken for the first time. I can close my eyes now and be immediately transported back to those days. Mr. Brisk was a fantastic headmaster and a very good man. It is a shame that the building was demolished. So many happy memories, but the bulldozers can't demolish them :)
I was at Durnford in late 70's before going up to Queen Elizabeth's in Alkrington at the turn of the 80's. I was sad to learn that both schools closed and are no longer there.
I went there 79 to 82, and grew up across the road , it was school and adventure playground all rolled into 1 ..football pitching the winter, cricketing the summer......ah the memories...
John Nicholas Elliott MI6 Intelligence Officer described the prep school as being abusive to a level that would be illegal today. I started reading his book on the Philby case and the school is mentioned. Was not expecting much in the way of the positive.
I agree, my wife who went to the school circa 1980 has some very disturbing information on what happened to her at that time by some of the teachers - they would be in a lot of trouble now if these things happened today, I do know the names of a couple of them - will dig around a bit....
He was a great headmaster, and, as I realised in my later years, a great man. He was my headmaster from me being 11 to 14 years old. He didn't command respect.....he achieved and deserved it. I would have loved to have met him as an adult...one he helped to create. I am so glad he lived such a long life. I am still, so sad, that he is no longer with us.
