It didn't fade away until around 1994 when nu-metal started getting big which was the rising of the ugly depressed losers as rockstars instead of the good looking pretty boys who like to party.
It's a curious coincidence that the fastest guitarist and highest range vocalist actually met and made a band. It didn't last long, it was a bit cheesy for some but it's 2020 and we still haven't seen any band with such phenomenal performance capabilities.

Yeah, I know their music is shit and they didn't reach great highs, but they still were moderately successful in the LA scene back in the day, meaning this dude lived and breathed the rock star life of the 80s. Drugs, sex, decadence, hair spray. Made for some crazy times and crazy characters. I know by today's standard's this guy was a pompous douchebag, but it was a different time and either way, this guy is cooler than almost any modern guy I can think of
