    Great video. Team Sink. It's nice to have a face to face conversation while doing the dishes.

    Team Sink! I don't have a window in my kitchen so looking into the room and beyond is better.

      Nice! A sink command centre for the kitchen! 😁

    I like the aesthetics of team hob but I don’t love any of my extractor options. So I think for function, I’m team sink!

      Strong choice for function! What if you could have the hob on the island without the need for any of those extractor options? Would that tempt you to team hob? (there's a work around here in the UK where you don't have to have a cooker hood). Thanks so much for watching!

    If I could guarantee my family would wash up immediately I’d be Team sink. Maybe I’ll just ask them to move out because I know I’ll keep the sink area clean 😁

    We also in process of building a house from scratch and I'm in the middle of debate with myself as my husband has no preference in this... So I'm surely team sink cause I don't want to interrupt my view of the kitchen with the hanging vent.. but I'm concerned about the mess with the dishes and it most probably will be a dumping ground.. but like U said if U have the washing machine next to sink maybe that can save the messy top.. I mean surely when U have guests over we would probably make sure it ain't an eye sore before they arrive.. the aftermath would be a problem unless U use plastic plates for them that way it's an instant throw away thing and sink won't be full of dishes.. (tht depends on how many guests U would have) anyways for sure to every problem there's a simple solution and I think I just figured out with this post that I'm finally gonna go forth with sink on island.. haha thanks for the vid it was wide opening for me and made me think deeper into detail of what would work for me! Thanks again

    currently adding an extention and kitchen is part of it - I am team nothing to break up the island top. I will have a warming drawer in the island as well as under counter fridge drawers, but they don't break up the work surface.

    I prefer the traditional window facing sink. I prefer the stovetop placed in the island.

    Team sink for functionality

    Team SINK on the island BUT with a bar top to help hide the mess. Not the latest style but I think a compromise I am likely to make on my new kitchen.

    Am i the only one that doesnt like the sink in the kitchen island because water splashes everywhere making it kind of gross to sit at the kitchen and eat at the kitchen island? I prefer having sink next to wall not on island. I want to keep my island clear to use as a sort of table.

      He mentioned it in the video too, not kitchen has the wall space to have the sink and hob all against the wall.

      This! Thank you for pointing this out. My current kitchen has an island on the sink and sometimes the water would even drip to the floor. I avoid sitting on the island as it tends to be constantly wet from the family using the sink, even though we have a dishwasher the sink is used fairly often. We are in the process of moving home and renovating the kitchen and although I like the functionality of having a sink on the island it is very irritating, I am therefore considering an empty island in our new property for a peace of mind 😅

      How much mess do you make? If you're a messy person sure, but someone like me, I can keep things neat and use the dishwasher for the heavylifting. Just sink for filling pots etc and washing up large items. They take 2 mins. Quick dry off with a towel and you're good to go. Back to clean bench area.

      We got 4 teens 12 to 16 who we fight with to even empty dishwasher and just throw dishes in sinks or beside sink! So when you have uninvited/drop by from family or friends instead of that great island be a focal point of kitchen the dirty dishes pilled up on island is the focal point ya would never put sink in island

      I think its depend on how good your sink is. A decent sink won't splash. But still its better than cooktop on island, i guess.. When not water but oil will splashes everywhere 😰

      My two fave kitchen designers!! I’ve gone down a rabbit hole on both of your amazing channels in the past couple of weeks 😂 fantastic content.
      Mark - I’m now open to considering laminate because of you!
      Michael - your other vids where you go through drawing the layouts are amazing!
      Curious what both your thoughts are on the length of bench against the wall that would be required to have both sink and stove/hob on it? I too am Team Nothing!

    Thank you so much for such a great video and tips on kitchen sink options. We are building a house and in our plan our architect has put the sink on the island. Though we have one wall with big window but sink is not on that wall. I know the kitchen triangle is the reason he designed it on island to have refrigerator n hob closer to sink vs. putting it on the window wall which would be opposite to refrigerator wall. Sink on window wall would still be a triangle but slightly a bigger triangle. I am little concerned with the idea of having sink on island from entertaining standpoint as the sink will be right in front of the guests and all dirty dishes could be an eye sore. Wanted to know your recommendation on how i decide the location of sink. Thank you! Sorry for the long post.

      As with most things kitchen design it comes down to a balancing act between function, aesthetics and your personal preference. There's no right or wrong, it's what works for you. If you're worried about the sink on the island then I would definitely explore moving it, have some other plans drawn up to see and really think about how you will use the space and what you want most out of it.

    • @nickhayley

      Id have thought if you're having guests over, clean up before they arrive or if you're worried about the mess after dinner, dump it in the dishwasher (or laundry!)

    I'm edging towards a large work zone sink with bin and plumbing under the sink and 2 dishwashers, one either side of the 900mm sink unit (2.1m overall length), but still can't decide with my new kitchen plans! Not sure if the dishwasher noise would be annoying in my open plan downstairs.. What's your favourite?

    • @kitchinsider
      @kitchinsider  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Double dishwasher! Very nice! Getting them integrated can help with the noise and making sure they are a low dB obviously. I go back and forth on my favourite, ultimately depends on the room/layout/construction/design etc... but I think I lean more towards hob on the island, sink on a run under a window looking out over the ocean. **in my dream world**

    My kitchen is tiny tiny! So I'm thinking of putting the sink in the island and raise the high of 1/3 of the island, so it can create a back splash for the sink and a sitting area on the other side.

    If putting the sink in the island is an option. Is it possible to have a piece that can cover the sink hole while not in use.

      Use a custom cut butcher block if your sink is undermount

  • @nickhayley

    Team Sink on the island. I think it will just work best for us. We have a relatively small house and trying to cram it all on the other benchtop will look crazy ugly and disfuctional not to mention it probably would not even fit!

    What is the width of the kitchen island

    • @nickhayley
      @nickhayley ปีที่แล้ว

      1800mm long minimum and 900mm to 1200mm wide. But he said 1800 wide. He meant to say 1800 long.

    All those wet pans drying on your island. Bad idea

    • @jayjones9219
      @jayjones9219 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! Thank you. No way I want pans drying to be the focal point of a kitchen. Also, don’t want bar stools at the sink. No one wants to gather round the splashy sink. Put the sink on an outside wall beneath a window.
