Hey, y'all! I wanted to play with a different format for this one. If you love more depth - don't worry - deep dive round-ups will still be coming (have some in the works for late summer + fall). For this one, I wanted to put together a quick round-up video for folks who are crunched on time and don't necessarily want the depth that comes along with most of the shoe content on this channel. Thanks for supporting and rocking with me!
@@seraphoem thank you for the feedback! I’ll have more condensed lists coming for hyper-specific topics like wide feet, HIIT training, and whatnot. More to come 💪
@@thatfitfriend Good to know. But I understand it. With such ranking videos it hasnt to go into so much detail because you already have detailed reviews for all of these shoes. So I think the shorter videos complement the longer ones well.
Once I started squatting, front squatting and deadlifting in my Reebok Legacy lifters it is very difficult to go back to training shoes. Even the Metcon 7’s aren’t as solid. For me, lifting in any shoe that I would run in like the Nano X2 or the Rad One’s is not a solid feel. Great breakdown Jake. Appreciate the knowledge.
Feel that! There’s also a level of specificity to consider that comes with the contrast between that footwear and the biomechanics you desire for certain exercises. For example, when I’m in prep or working with triples or down I’ll typically rock lifters, too, but opt for trainers for moderate work where I’m adding in more cross-training/circuit style work. Love that you’ve found a shoe flow that works for you - that’s the name of the game! And thank you 💪
Really love the video! My top 5 CrossFit shoes are: 1. Nano x1 2. Nike Metcon 7 flyease 3. NoBull trainer+ 4. Nike Metcon 7 5. Nano x2 (1 being my fav, 5 being my least fav) Although I use adidas power lifter 4s for squats. I cannot do a full squat with any of my shoes tbh, my x2s and my converse are the 2 shoes that I’m close to below parallel with.
Hey Jake. Love your content. Super helpful. Any suggestions for an alternative to the Metcons? I love the fit of my Metcon 5s, as I have narrow feet and high arches. Had looked at GoRuck and Nobull, but not sure how the others run width wise…mainly in the heal and midfoot (I don’t mind extra room in the toe box).
Depends on drop preferences for this comparison! 2mm vs 7mm. Both shoes work well. I would probably go TriBase Reign 4 because it’s a good consistent model, but the X2 can also hold its own and I don’t think you can go wrong with either.
@@thatfitfriend Thanks! I am not experienced in low drop shoes but I like to deadlift barefoot for example but current gym does not allow. Will definitely try them out
I have the same question- metcon 8 or reign 4? I do SBD for strength training and hypertrophy work. Which would you recommend? Thank you for making this video and answering our questions
Hey Jake you provide so many shoes so much detail in such a condensed amount of time thankyou. I am coming from budget Nike MC Trainer that I have warn till the treads are virtually non existent. I still continue to wear them because i am not a cross fitter nor any type of competitve athlete at this point. I just casually train but would like to add more intensity to my workouts. I am in a full body program icomposed various types squats, lunges, deadlifts, rows, presses for hypertrophy with some strength reps but will begin to get more into Fatburning, HIIT ,Metabolic Circuits and Athletic activity (Boxing training). I plan to do more Sprints, Heavy Rope Jumping such as Double Unders+ triple unders other type of forefoot lateral and heel footwork. Which shoe on that List would you recommend? I like NIKES and am looking at Metcon Turbo 2 and Metcons 7 but am open to other brands?
Hey! Thank you. IMO, I'd say look into the Metcon 7, especially if you can find them on sale as the 8s roll out in the next couple of months. The Nike Zoom Metcon Turbo 2 could also be a decent option. Both models are sub-par for sprints, but they'll work if you're only doing them here and there!
Thank you so much!! I’m a 5 months rookie into CrossFit but I felt in love with OLYs and I’m quite obsessed with the snatch and clean practice… I can’t buy 2 pairs of shoes atm (like one for CrossFit and one for OLYs) which one would you recommend that could be better for weightlifting ? I sure need some heel support since I tend to buttwink below parallel and I hope the heel thing could help with this…
Hello Jake !!! Congratulations 👏 for all your videos but especially in this one because you help very much and it was very difficult to describe so many shoes .... I want to ask you if it will be good idea to buy nano x2 for general CrossFit trainings i have many shoes like metcon 7 and previous models , also i have nano x1knit but i don't like it and i have nano x1 Froning edition and i love it for general training and small running ... You believe that the nano x2 with nanox1Froning have big difference ?
Can you help, looking to get my husband either the Haze trainer or the no bill trainer plus. He has wide feet. Which one do you think has a wider toe box?
@@thatfitfriend your the best! He’s wearing Altra Solstice size 8. As well as Redbox Nano. Yes, he is enjoy it. For everyday as well as well as uses them for short WODs like Cindy . But wanted a different shoe with a wider toe box.
Great video. I am looking for a good lifting shoe and a treadmill running shoes for around 3 miles. I like to work upper body and then sometimes run 3 miles. Which shoe would you recommend? I was thinking about a no bull mesh or knit runner or the new inov 8 you just reviewd. I will not use this for leg day. I have shoes for legs. Only upper body and and treadmill. Hate having to bring 2 pair of shoes to the gym. Thanks.
IMO, you'd be fine in the NOBULL models if you only plan to do upper with them and run. They may lack for heavier barbell overhead press and standing work, but you could always take them off for that context!
@@anthonytorgerson4175 if you’re going NOBULL, go knit or ripstop. If you want to save a little money, then go Reebok Floatride Energy 3 (super budget friendly, strong performing running shoe)
Depends what you want out of your shoes! Reign 4 has a lower drop and lower-profile fit/feel. Nano X2 has a higher boot, wider midfoot, and bigger drop. For lifting/CF, I'd go Reign 4. For lifting/versatile training, the Nano X2 works well, but so does the Reign 4.
I have 3 picks for different reasons and these can all fair pretty well in different contexts. Haze = If you like a "minimalist" feel for training. Nano X2 = If you want a wider shoe/fit RAD = If you want something with a bit more of a CrossFit/versatile bias Personally, I'll bring the Haze with me if I'm traveling for example, and need only one shoe, but I also like a minimalist fit and feel!

What would be a good replacement for the nano 8? I like the wider flexible toe box with a little arch and support for lifts.
The TriBase Reign 4 could be a good comparable model.
Can you find any 7/8s still on the market?
