Finley is a lucky do to be so loved. We had to put our 8 year old German Shepherd down this morning. His backend went and he couldn't stand. I am going to miss that boy. I look forward to watching Finley grow and learn.

Both my old man (my heart) and my new pup Ruger are absolutely Besties! I pray that Finley and you both enjoy every moment! I personally love and trust puppies much more than most people. You can easily fix that gap in the gate. Get another piece of chain-length fence pipe the same size as the pipe the gate is made out of, and as tall as the gate, and get three or four of the metal clamps that hold dog kennels together, I'd use four just to give it added strength, then remove the gate latch and clamp the new piece of pipe onto the gate and then put the gate latch on the new piece. The new piece of pipe will fill the gap and your gate latch will be much tighter. I'd also get at least one of the caps that go on top of chain length poles just to cap the top of the new piece of pipe off.
"He probably needs food for motivation." I can confirm this. 😉 I've been volunteering for a local music festival for 20 years. Let's see if my years of building festival tents can help with the coop's rain problem. The shade tarp is flat and the chicken wire is flexible, so water will pool. The center needs to be raised for the rain to flow downhill. Measure the distance under the tarp roof from coop frame corner to corner, halve that number and add +6". Depending on the length, metal broomsticks (47" or 58") from the dollar store will do fine. Using string or zip-ties (weather friendly), secure through the holes of the four broomstick handles making an X. Secure the broomstick threads to the coop horizontal frame corners (remember gravity). Throw the tarp over it all and secure to the coop frame. I hope this makes sense and is helpful.

Kelly you can stop the water pooling on your chicken yard by taking 2 pvc pipe tees ( big enough to fit over the metal conduit runners on top. Cut the longest straight part of the tees in half. So when you stick the pvc pipe in the tee part of it it is U shaped away from the pipe. Make 2 of them per tarp. Get a piece of pipe same size as your tees and long enough to bow the tarp and wire high enough to keep the water from pooling. Put the tees on each end of the pipe and hook it on 1 side of the over head metal pipe and bow the pvc pipe up and hook it on the other side metal pipe. Your pvc pipe should be perpendicular to the metal pipe runs and create a high spot in your tarp so water shouldn’t pool. Make your pvc pipe long enough so it barely fits with the bow on to the other side. Hope I explained it well enough. I’m better at showing than explaining how to.
