Yeah.........I was pretty heated. I went back up there the other day and the DEC had cleaned some of it up, but it's still a wreck compared to what it used to be. People ruin everything.
@EvanK2EJT man on a good note, your CW delivery is so on point and easy to listen to. I have only been following you for a year now but I have watched most of your videos and seeing and listening to you has been great for me as well as entertaining.
Hi Evan. This is David AE4LH. I appreciate your YT videos. I am sorry the trees you use have been destroyed. Due to our local park rules (no stakes and no wires in trees) I use a tripod and telescopic whip. I listened to your video while on my NordicTrac skier (yes, I still have one!) Having to work on “head copy” kept me focused on exercise, both of Morse and cardio. Thank you for being an educator! I’m a beneficiary of the hard work, blood, sweat, tears, and caring of generations of your colleagues in NY, IL, GA, NC, and MN. Vy 73 de David AE4LH
Absolutely. If my parents would have caught me being stupid like that I bet I would have been picking up every peice of trash for a half mile radius and rightly so
No, please…BE THAT GUY…we need more people to be that guy. You are 100% correct, people suck. I hope you get to the bottom of it and that there is some accountability for wrecking your beautiful spot.
Appreciate all the great videos, helps me stay motivated to learn CW. One of the main reasons is to carry less gear and getting to active in locations that look that great. Stinks when someone ruins it for everyone else.
I'm right there with you, brother. It's unreal to see how people have started treating these amazing places. At least once a month, I end up seeing a husk of a burned out stolen car. Today, I walked by the husk of a burned shopping cart. I don't even know how that works. I'm in Hawaii. It's getting unreal. Stay safe, brother. Vent when you have to. Those who follow you understand. 🤙🏾
Great video Evan. I feel honored that I made it into the video at 36:40. After seeing you in a few of Kyle's videos I subscribed to your channel, bought a bug and joined LICW Club. I have really learned a lot from you and appreciate all you do. Hope to get into one of your classes and get you in the log again. Thanks es 73, Jim W5ATJ
Great video, Evan. Sorry about the disrespect given to the park and I agree with your sentiment. Congrats on getting to within 1 band of N1CC. I am 3 bands shy at one park and am hoping I can get 2M and then try 60M and 80M some late afternoon. I suppose 6M is possible but one certainly can't plan on that. TNX, OM!
Man that does suck!! I'll never understand some people's lack of respect and carelessness. There's one park here that I stopped going to because of crap like this. Makes me mad too.
Parents. If your kids are leaving garbage behind in the woods you know what you need to do.... Trash bags and litter grabbers are cheap. Teaching your kid to look after the environment is priceless
Man, you're fired up that day. I get it. I just finished up elements to turn my 40m dipole into 60m and 80m. Now that it's dark after work I want to try activating on those bands. I'm finding 60m to be busier than I expected. With 5 channels, I guess that's not hard to do :) Now, I just need 133' of clear space.
I hear you. Leave a place like you found it especially if it is a public park. Funny how hunters and other people who avidly use public areas are the ones that take care of it the most.
You've got it right, people suck. Four-legged creatures are so much better! I'm up in Syracuse, and I just measured on Google Earth Pro - that state forest is 59 miles directly south.
Still very much a beginner so apologies if this question doesn’t make sense. You said you could not use UHF/VHF there because of terrain features - could you set up an NVIS antenna?
Great question! NVIS only works on the lower HF frequencies (roughly 7MHz and lower frequencies). VHF and UHF are only good for line of sight (unless there's tropospheric ducting on 2m or something) regardless of what kind of antenna you're running.
Heya Evan - sorry people trashed that place. I blame the youts. What is that cloth table you have the radio setup on? It seems solid enough for radio use and at least appears super light/portable. I definitely need something like it.
We see the same at our boondocking spots. State and federal entities giving people free or extremely cheap access to public land and that's what they do. Can't even dig a hole before they take a deuce.
Yeah, people do suck. Seems like the suckage is increasing by the day. My #1 goal in life is to buy enough property to never have to see or hear another person if I don't want to.
Picked a bunch of trash up in that spot back in 2017 .... not a ham at that time but i needed time off grid .. so i drove up on the plataue hung my Hammock & spent the night .. got a lil cold in wind but it was the peace i needed
It's a great spot to set up. I love it there. It's too bad people can't just enjoy it for what it is, and clean up after themselves. Thanks for watching!
That's an ATU-10. It's a great little tuner. This is where I got mine: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09PTC6DJ8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Have you had any issues with yours? The first one was DOA basically. The replacement got “stuck” trying to tune until I unplugged the batteries. Hasn’t done it again but I’m skeptical.
LOL and if you sent PLZ QRS, I'd absolutely do it. I'll answer you at whatever speed you call me at (assuming I'm on a radio where you can easily change key speed). Thanks for watching!
I'm working on my kilo at Turkey Hill State Forest, not too far from there. I had to report illegal dumping in the parking area. There was bags of garbage and tv's. They responded within a week, saying they'd see to it's removal. 3 weeks later it's still there . The empty beer cans and wrappers are bad enough. The deliberate stuff pisses me off.
Yes, it is disheartening and extremely frustrating. If you think you know at least some of the people who are doing this damage to public areas could it be (since you are a teacher) someone who knows you and know you are a Hamop and have operated in this very spot before? Yeah, I am growing a bit paranoid in my old age. Sorry and good luck. ... All your videos are great. Glad I just recenlty discovered them. 72 de AE5ZX
I'm fairly certain it's friends of a former student who like to frequent this spot. He mentioned something about them liking to come here to raise hell.
I couldn’t agree more! People suck! I prefer dogs over people any day of the week. 73 Evan
That's what Satan does. Convinces you that people aren't worth getting along with, all while thinking that you aren't the problem. Sneaky stuff.
Dogs?. Dogs suks. Shits and pisses everywhere.
I feel the same way man. I have to avoid people in the general public. Post names when you find them.
Yeah.........I was pretty heated. I went back up there the other day and the DEC had cleaned some of it up, but it's still a wreck compared to what it used to be. People ruin everything.

Yeah, that's how most of our state parks are....no wires in trees, nothing staked to the ground. Thank you for watching. I appreciate it!
The last couple generations of parents in America have been mostly abysmal, not teaching their kids respect for others and nature.
This is 100% the case. I see it every day in my day job.
Absolutely. If my parents would have caught me being stupid like that I bet I would have been picking up every peice of trash for a half mile radius and rightly so

Thanks man. Yeah, it's really unfortunate seeing how people treat nature. It's frustrating.
Completely agree, Evan, people do suck. I'm testing for general this month and hope to catch you on the air soon. 73

Sounds good! Hope to get you in the log!
Too bad the people that really need to see this video, won't. Sorry to see the damage and garbage there. I've been there once or twice too.
Yeah, I don't know why people feel the need to ruin things. It drives me nuts

I'm at work just copying along as I go through my Friday and I'm like "Hey, that's me!" LOL
I had forgotten I worked you. 😀
LOL awesome!
Yeah that sucks man. I try to be a conservationist and steward of our lands. Looks like a party spot for local screenagers.
Yeah, I'm fairly certain the people that did this are in the 18-20ish range. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is.
Man, you're fired up that day. I get it.

Me too! Need to get back on the air. Lots of great spots to activate very close: Labrador Pond, Morgan Hill State Forest, etc…
You know what they say... You Can't Fix Stupid.
20:20 HI8D David is a good guy. Glad to hear him playing radio.
26:15 HI8POTA is David again. Lol
That he is!
LOL yeah, he worked me twice
Reminds me of the same behavior I see in Uwharrie, NC - yes very frustrating.
This is exactly how you get campsites closed permanently…Tenn has this problem and we’ve lost so many good sites.
Yeah, it's really unfortunate. I'm hoping this was an isolated incident, but I have very little faith in most people LOL
Impressive cw skills!
Thank you!

trail cam time....
The state would have a conniption fit about that, but that might actually work lol

Yeah, Justin told me about how bad it was. It's unfortunate. I'm assuming that was all dumped at the end of the road where the loop is?
@EvanK2EJT yes, people have fires there too. Right in the parking area. Solo cups and cans. I hope they put up a trail cam. BTW, thanks for the qso.

Cool radio talk but bigger question. Where's the buick
LOL what's up Garth?! Long time no talk. The Buick is just chillin' in the garage right now. What have you been up to?
@@EvanK2EJT just living life. Working like a fool. A video on the buick would be a good addition to broaden your audience.

@garthwinn2054 i still win this one. Don't make me find snaggletooth.
