This might get me one or two angry comments, but I gotta say it.
So, the group that "caused" the K-pop explosion isn't even all that good at singing. Not BAD, just nothing special. And that isn't because I'm not the target audience. The few boy bands I heard songs from in the '90s were better than "fine" from a music standpoint. Even that one band in the 2010s was a step in the right direction. These guys are cute faces who can dance, and that's about it.
The only other K-pop boy band I know is the fictional group Seoul M8s. While they're very much "a boy band from South Korea", the songs themselves are kinda good. The guys look fine and sing better than fine. Just don't let Cute Jun near the flute.
Honestly I think Hailey's "he's lucky he's cute" line can apply to all of BTS. People don't flock to them because the songs are good. And while that can apply to pretty much every boy band, some of them have actual good songs.
I assume there ARE better songs from BTS, but if I'm not a fan of an act's biggest song, chances are I won't be in any hurry to dive into the rest.
(Since I mentioned that group, go watch Hailey's On It on Disney+; It needs all the viewership it can get tbh)
