  • www.vladtv.com - Kurupt detailed growing up around gangs and being shocked when a kid on a bike stepped to him for wearing all blue shoes in a Blood neighborhood. He explains that at first he blew the kid off, but Kurupt said he didn't think twice about running home when the kid said he was going back home to get his gun.
    Tha Dogg Pound emcee also spoke about getting a firsthand look at the gang life while visiting family in Compton, but Kurupt says he's not active and adds that he's not a gang banger.
    Check out the full interview above.

    I visted my aunt in Compton back 1990. Iwas wearing a blue jays jersey, blues jeans with some blue laced nikes. Before i went to her house, stopped inside a store to grab some snacks. By time i walk out, about 20 dude draped in red and burgundy bandanas surrounded my car throwing up gang signs and shouting wuddup Blood! I stood there confused cause i didnt know much about banging. Then 1 of the guys looked at my Michigan licence plate and said"Oh Blood from out of town, he aint no Crab" then they all just hopped back inside their minivans and cars and pulled off. Man you talk about relief! I was scaaaaaaared!

    I like Kurupt's response to the kid saying he was going to go get his gun and shoot him. Kurupt could have easily lied and said some shit like he stayed put and the kid never came back, but no he said he got the fuck out of there haha. You've got to respect that kind of honesty. I would have bounced too haha.

    I lived off Hoover Bl in late 70s. Maybe around 78 or so when I was 12, I got into a scrap with my 12yo neighbor. He told his 14yo brother who came out and pulled 45 cal 1911 on me. It wasn,t needed because he could kick my butt all day everyday but, he was making a statement. Over the next few years kids with guns was a common problem. Many parents (not all) were single mothers in my neighborhood. All they knew was they sent their kids to school & took them to church Sunday. I never told their mother or any adult about the gun because something about him fucking me up, rang true in my head.
    By the time I was 15, I probably had five gun stuffed in my face on real serious deals. Luckily that was before the mid 80's when idiots would drop you for no reason. Before then, they actually needed a reason (not a big one) to actually kill you.

    I think its amazing for a brotha that grew up in this type of environment and never claim he’s a bad ass or throw up gang affiliated signs even though he’s Rollin 60. Unlike a lot of new artists that grew up far in the or midwest to show a rep a set after they become famous and move to Beverly Hills. Much respect ✊🏾. Prime example that you dont have to be the environment from which you came. Just stay real, keep it in your rear view and move forward in life. Its a part of your story and thankfully you made it out to tell it.

When I came out here from Chicago, moms bought me red suede pumas with the fat red laces...little dude came up to me after school (3rd grade) and said, "You can't wear those shoes around here, this is a crip neighborhood". Had to ask moms what he was talking about cause I was too young but needless to say, I never wore those shoes again.

      I disagree. Banging is ignorant but a fact of life , since the inception of this country, for poor communities whether that community be black, italian, jewish or otherwise. People who can fight have banged. I feel your sentiment, but the issue is bigger than being a punk or not.

    L.A.GangBanging is it's own reality. If you wasn't there in the 80's you really can't understand... I remember a time i was at my potnah's house which was right on the edge of the Jungles,.... and we was walking to the liquor store but we weren't gang members,.. still we knew we were not exactly from the red side of town. Next thing you know another potnah who was with us noticed a crip dude walking into the jungle,.. He was blue'd up with a trench coat on and a cane with six blue rags tied on it. we stopped him to talk to him and see what was going on,..... cause we kinda knew him,... and he said,.. Cuzz I'm finna go Kill me some slobs right now,.... then he showed us the sawed-off,........ mind you,.. I'm talking bout a fool WALKING "INTO" the Jungles,.....That shyt was like a one way in,........ one way out.....HE WAS JUST ON ONE!!! That's why when I see these so called gang bangers from all over the planet,... I be laughing at they just add water ass... Oh Yeah,.... Kurrupt ain't lying,.... And He from 60's..... met him at battlecat's house when I got out the military,.... He was the one who told me what a "bird" was,....I know he thought i was a corny motherfucka,.... But I never gang banged,.. just rap and Hip hop from the Crenshaw District,...... I guess maybe I bang that shyt!!! Ohgeezus2wyce...... Crenshaw District Emcee!!!! Westside.... Knegah....!!!

      +Michael Baker EXACTLY. I'm a 90s baby from Long Beach...and though I was raised in the church, I saw things like this early on...cats loaded, with a loaded gun, down for whatever...and some cats killed just for being at the wrong place around the wrong people...it's sad that it happens but it's a way of life...something you just get accustomed to...it's funny when I meet other people from different regions (East Coast, South) who claim this stuff but don't fully know the background to it all.

      Swindeville 90z Not completely...I've talked with some of my East Coast friends who bang...it's perplexing to them that there are crips who beef with other crips...or that the West still flags...the South focuses more on blocks and neighborhoods than actual crips and bloods...they all have the sane concept, but the West is a bit more complex.

      Zackari s. when i see white people in LA, they be surfing, skateboarding, baywatch bikinis, palm trees, shopping in beverly hills, partying, having the time of their lives like they are in heaven, wearing blue, red, all sorts of shit. I guess the bangers just go through a crowd of white people like they invisible and stop Black people wearing colors and be like "take dat shit off homie!"

    Thank you for this refreshing non-supergansta story from Kurrupt. East to West, if a young punk steps to an older head and leaves, take off or be ready to face gunplay because that fool is just trying to get a rep by killing you. He don't want no straight up scrap with hands, he want to catch a body. Kurrupt do ya thing & get back in this game.

    im probably one of the few people on here who has lived in the south , lived in los angeles and then lived in new york . Most of the comments on here about both ny and la are true from my own experiences and the gang lifestyle resides in both cities but with different codes...for example in la its not about colors anymore its more about hats and symbols like being in compton and rocking new balance and a ny fitted. a fact about la is that you really cant tell when you switch neighborhoods if its not identified by graffiti where in ny you caught wearing beads out here you making a statement like red and green for example. In la i did have several problems with race issues exp mexicans. At the same time though i did have some mexican homies that once they realized i wasnt from la didnt trip

    • @cobracongo
      @cobracongo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting. Could you explain the relationship between blacks and Mexicans out in LA? Do the two ever mix? Believe or not there was a time when he had blacks in all Mexican gangs. This was during the 80s. If you ever see the 2 Breakin movies they show the unity between the two back then It's funny how as time went on they went backwards.

    • @highgaming547
      @highgaming547 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I experienced racism and friction between the 2 races and in some cases I was in the middle...for instance alot of arguments Where I was not in the situation but was then approached by mexicans because I was black and I was the closest thing for them to take their anger out on. Also its alot of mexicans talking shit in spanish when a black peraon comes in their stores. Its that way in ny too I live and work amongst Hispanics

    • @highgaming547
      @highgaming547 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow you hit it on the head...I lived in wash heights ...aka dominican central and they def hate black people .my boy dominican but looks black and he tells me all the time how much he has to fight because his own people hate....and yes you were right when I lived in la it has some bad mexican broads but they def. Dont date black men it was like I had the plague when I holla d at a mexican girl. Mexicans up here in ny say the n word matter of fact I have heard every race say it but when I was in la and in the south that shit didnt get down. New yorkers let races say nigga up here but down south I was fighting for people to keep that word out they mouth. In genwral hispanics are racist from jump when imo black people dont care what race you are

    • @highgaming547
      @highgaming547 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      slickkapone I experienced all kinds of racism out in la . First im 6'4 200 so some may be intemidated but that may have been irrelevant. All people hate blacks in la...whites hate blacks ..asians hate blacks ...Hispanics hate blacks and blacks hate blacks. Neighborhood wise heres the problem if your black . Moving to black neighborhoods are a problem. There are gangs everywhere and youll get yourself in some shyt like not knowing what hat to wear. Also u cant tell what neighborhood ur in...theres no signs. Hispanics kill blacks in their hood we dont. White s would walk down the other side of the street to avoid me and I was judged everywhere. Hispanics out there were racist when it came to dating too. I made the mistake of treating a mexican woman as a woman out there to holla at her and it was like I had the plague...she was so disgusted at the Idea of being with a black man...we should start revoking hispanics .dealings with blacks and stop everyone from using the n word. We use it as indearment they use it as racisim

    • @highgaming547
      @highgaming547 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      slickkapone its funny I live in ny now and im from nc and fla . Now all I hear is new yorkers coming with alot of jokes on the south but it sounds good out there. I loved la though and I would live there again ...but im just saying if you go keep your guard up know about the race cards and just befriend those that befriend u no matter the race. My roomate was white and we got along fine he was from Illinois...I had mexican homies too but i was having to many issues. Ex 1 crazy bums who will fight u...I was on the bus and a black kid who was mentally gone or homeless tried to make me exit off the back of the bus...ex 2 a homeless man who thought I was b4 talking about him when I was talking on the phone approached me to fight. Ex 3 another black kid put his hand in his waist on his gun when we walked past each other... ex 4 I holla d at a Chiquita and she treated me like it was a disgrace to her to be with a black man. Ex 5 this mexican man was crossing the streets and these crips almost his him..the mexican was drinking and they exchanged words and the crips pilled out. The Mexican saw me sitting at the bus stop and said if I wasnt such a gentleman I would fight u because of that...ex 6 a black man bumped a mexican girl and walked by these 3 mexican men I was behind him and the mexicans wanted to fight me like I did it. Ex 7 police at tge airport my first day in la searched the shit out my bags for drugs...day 1. Ex 8 there was this pool party of my friends from work..all races but in the party it def became segregated even though we all fd with each other.
