    I’m curious why you didn’t take the harwich ferry in the UK to Rotterdam?

    Belgium has amazing bike infrastructure. I was in Veurne in early October and loved it. Fab video guys!

      Thank you! We were so impressed by the biking infrastructure in Belgium. Wish we had that in the US!

      @@PursuingMountainsAnd in the UK, our cycle and pedestrian infrastructure is poor. Cycle lanes are often created by painting a line on the road and assuming drivers will do something different. Dutch, French, Belgian, etc. dedicated biker lanes really put us to shame and show what can be done.

    Loving this tour. I'm curious if you thought the wide knobby tires instead of narrow / gravel tires held you back at all?

    • @PursuingMountains
      @PursuingMountains  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’ve only ever had the wide ones, we probably could have gotten away with smaller ones, but I’m not sure how much of a difference they would make.

    Your bike videos are very entertaining, and you go to some interesting places that you show on your videos. I am enjoying the views and your rides as you project them with your cameras. Glad to have found your channel, thank you. 👍

    I have hashimoto too.love cycling but food is a problem.discovered that sugar also effects us..I did a John Ogroats to lands end bike tour but got really sick from eating sweets and coke so had to cancel 300 km in.. watching your videos and keeping an eye out on how you are coping with this horrible thyroid disease..

      Thanks for commenting! It’s taken me quite a bit of time to figure out what works best for me with hashimotos (still trying to figure it out). I was really concerned going into this biking trip because I knew if I had a flare up it would take me out and It’s challenging on a long bike tour to be as strict with food. For me, I did a couple of “clean eating” days each week that avoided gluten, dairy and sugar/processed foods and that seemed to really help. Overall surprisingly my thyroid antibodies numbers improved sooo much on the trip even though I was much more laxed with my diet. I don’t know if it was the lack of stress or exercise but it was quite surprising. Have you tried another bike tour since? Has anything worked for you?

      @PursuingMountains I'm planning to go back and finish this coming May..but when I got back to London I was ill for about 6 weeks.ive figured out when I over exert myself it starts up again.and food plays a big roll too..I love sweet things but have to resist.if I stick to boring things like brown rice.chicken.salads.sweet potatoes.strawberries.etc I do amazingly..but I always fall by the wayside at some point..I think it's a lonely disease as well because nobody knows what you go through unless they have it as well...I'm amazed you finished the tour and it gave me so much hope that I will finish mine

      @@wkay62 you can do it!! 🙌🏼 I’ve messaged with a couple of other people who cycle tour with hashimotos as well and after some trial and error figuring out what works best for them they are able to cycle tour well! I’d love to hear how it goes when you finish ☺️

    Love your wedding photo....how fair is it that Alex eats all those pastries with white flour and you (Liz) eat lentils fruit and veg and he is the tall slender one. Oh well your microbiome is probably in better shape. Glad you can have chocolate, makes up for all the restrictions.

      Alex’s metabolism astounds me daily! He puts down so much food. It’s kinda the joke of the family. When Alex visits you gotta make sure to have plenty of food 😂

    That waffle isn’t gluten free- is that why you felt so poorly possibly? I can’t do gluten either- absolute torture in France and Belgium 😢loving your journey- thank you!❤🚴‍♀️🇧🇪🇫🇷

    • @PursuingMountains
      @PursuingMountains  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks! Glad you are enjoying the series. That would be so hard to have to completely avoid it. I have hashimotos so I can luckily tolerate some gluten but I have to keep it to minimum or I will feel like crap. You’ll see in this series I was able to try a lot of food but would just have to limit it and do some gluten free days each week to keep me from flare ups. I didn’t find the gluten as hard on my autoimmune condition in Europe as the US, which was interesting. Obviously if you are completely gluten intolerant that would not work. I did see some gluten free waffle places in Brussels though!

    I am going to generalise: e-bikes should be banned from bike and shared paths. They are invariably ridden by people that go way too fast and don't know what they are doing. They belong on the road, and the cars have to learn to share the space with them.

      Road vehicles? Sure, but that’s true of all bikes.
