H.O.T. is the OG of OGs bc Lee Soo Man (the founder and owner of SM) created the group after working in the American music industry and following the hype that was Seo Taeji and Boys.
He combined what he saw in America with the success of Seo Taeji and Boys to create the first kpop band and kpop as we know it.

1st gen group names were weird in general Sobangcha - firetruck (their original name was butterfly sin in the cosmos) finkl - fin (end) killing liberty, milk, chakra etc.

react to Sechskies. Them and h.o.t were like "rivals" back then. They disbanded in 2000 but reunited in 2016 and is still active. I recommend Couple, their most popular song. Old version is released in 1998 and new version in 2016.

H.o.t. Dots mean shortening.. *High-Five Of Teens" the other 2 of the landmark of groups were Coyote, and For women groups S.e.s. members initials Sea Eugene Shoo...Dreams Come True is what hooked me years ago. Then I stepped away. In early 2001-3 when Shinhwa took off.

I love that you guys are delving in to the history of kpop! H.O.T stands for Highfive Of Teenagers and back then, before fan light sticks, fans held balloons of their groups color (I think H.O.T was white). Shinhwa is another group you could look at - they’re still together more than 20 years later. Seshkies are another awesome group. Love you all!
They had a reunion performance of this song on this Korean show called Infinity Challenge! You should definitely check it out!

This is so entertaining to watch because most of these guys are still well known celebrities. They’re in their 40s ( with adorable families) and I’m used to seeing them that way and they get the utmost respect from any singers they come across as OG’s...these are the guys current idols parents grew up with. So them so you g and performing this particular song (which is definitely a cute song) is funny!
Kangta, the one in green is actually a creative director at SM Entertainment which is pretty cool ! I love his song ‘Doll’ which featured Seulgi and Wendy from Red Velvet.
These boys are considered the first Kpop "Idol" group. The "formula" used to created them is what a lot of companies and subsequent groups emulated afterwards.
And Can I just say, you brought up a very good point of how Kpop was consumed back then vs now. I never thought about how we nowadays have the pleasure of being able to hit a replay button over and over again to watch a performance and listen to a song 24/7 but 20ish years ago, it wasn't like that. You had to watch them at a certain time and day and thats it. So as an artist, you had to be able to capture the audience that quickly.

Lead singer( GreenShirts, Yellow tie) is a director at SM. All of them are in their 40s now.

This was one of their “happy” and playful songs. One of the H.O.T songs that would be cool if you react to is H.O.T’s debut “Warrior’s Descendant” which talked about bullying. “Hope” which was their way of giving hope during Asia’s financial crisis in 1998 (and it’s like SM’s anthem bc SM artists always sing it in SM Town). Or “Wolf & Sheep” which is a song full of metaphors. H.O.T’s lyrics are simply amazing. Sadly some are hard to find in English but they’re definitely worth reading. They really tried to be the voice of teenagers talking about social issues back then and I admire them so much. Actually your last song Stand Up reminded me of H.O.T’s songs. I think you could find their rap really interesting and full of meaningful lyrics. Thank you for reacting to them, I never thought you would do that😂💜💜love you

I was in 6th grade when this was huge in Korea. My parents were stationed there at Yongsan Army base. I can't even begin to tell you how HUGE this song and band was over there. N*SYNC and Backstreet Boys fans can't compare to H.O.T. fans. For the pants -- Literally everyone wore pants that big too. The two big brands were JNCO and Alien Workshop. You would fold the waist and a looong belt was a must. Also, rolled the pants legs to fit your leg length and then used safety pins to hold it. Good frickin times! I miss Korea now. LOL.

The guys also happen to be Korean American, which I believe was also started as an actual trend by them.
