Great memory made right there. This really hits home with me. My dad is 72 now and still hunting through health issues as well. So blessed to still have these guys around so we can continue to enjoy more hunts with them.
I feel for Richard. Just tonight on Halloween, I had a 170 plus inch deer come chase some does about 30 yards away, and caught me off guard. The on doe went out into a cornfield, and I thought the buck was heading that way also. I drew my bow back, and couldn't let it down because the buck was now working his way to me! He started rubbing on trees, showing who's boss, and after a solid 4-5 minutes of holding my bow I had to let go, and he just barely saw me. Last year I shot a 135 inch buck with my bow, and this giant made him look like a yearling. Wanted to share this story with you guys, because at 14 this is my biggest deer I have seen to date.
That's fine buddy, you can believe what you want. I'm being 100% serious when I am saying this. This truly happened and the only one who knows it is myself and our Savior Jesus Christ.

I'm a 24 year old hunter that has been trying to learn the ropes for the last few years on stand placement and deer hunting in general. My biggest buck yet is only a cowhorn but thanks to a lot of your tips iv found a scrape line and I'm hoping to bag my first 8+ point buck this year, if not then there is always next year and more tips and tricks from you by then. Dropped my first deer with my crossbow this season. Set up my tree stand near to some early season scrapes, called him in using a doe call, double lung shot 12 yards, he fell 50 yards from the stand. 8 point buck and patience is the key. Praying for your father.

Farms up here in MO and KS are doing very well this year though yet again we have no hunted much, letting that age structure mature...should be in for something very special in the next few years. I keep hoping we produce KS first 200" typical bowkill, lol.

Dawson-- after the rut is over in your area, typically afternoons are better as deer tend to get on more consistent feeding patterns. I would find the preferred food source in your area and hunt those spots as we get cooler weather. -Matt

+xxbryan715xx Neither Dr. Woods nor do I normally shoot with a stabilizer. We have both found we shoot better without the extra weight. The longer the stablizer is the more benefit you receive from it as a shooter, in hunting situations from a tree or blind, longer stablizers seem to cause more complications. -Matt
+Jeremy Beltran Three critical factors deer need to have available to them year round is food, cover, and water. If your land can support these factors you will see an increase in deer using your property. -Matt
There's probably not much you can do, especially if they have a feeder too. Best thing is to hunt and be patience, he will probably be back around at some point! Keep us updated! -Daniel

man it sucks to miss a shot. but it's so much better then making a bad shot and not recovering the deer after hours and hours of searching and taking a day off work to look. ask me how i know!!

Dawson-- after the rut is over in your area, typically afternoons are better as deer tend to get on more consistent feeding patterns. I would find the preferred food source in your area and hunt those spots as we get cooler weather. -Matt

Ben- Yes, most fawns begin eating vegetation at just two weeks old. The fawns would most likely be more than fine -Matt

hey Dr., why don't you shoot a stablizer on your bow?
+xxbryan715xx Neither Dr. Woods nor do I normally shoot with a stabilizer. We have both found we shoot better without the extra weight. The longer the stablizer is the more benefit you receive from it as a shooter, in hunting situations from a tree or blind, longer stablizers seem to cause more complications. -Matt

I had a huge 10 point going to my feeder then it moved over to my neighbors property what do I do?
There's probably not much you can do, especially if they have a feeder too. Best thing is to hunt and be patience, he will probably be back around at some point! Keep us updated! -Daniel
