      Thank you, I did a better video on internal & external threading. It can be found on my channel.

      Thank you. I'll get better at this video thing. I have zero experience and doing videography.

    My 1440GT does not have a DRO, but it seems I really will need one for internal threads. Especially metric as you cannot use the twirly engagement counter (according to the book). Do you ever run out of room having the encoder on the tailstock side of the cross slide?

      I definitely notice that 5/8" when using tailstock. This is the norm for a lot of lathes unfortunately. Everything is 5/8" further away every time. I wish I had another way of mounting it but no joy.

      You can do great threading without a dro. Just have to take a little more time making sure you maintain that zero start point. What's wrong with the thread dial on your lathe ?

      @@Toolmaker001 Nothing, but according to the PM manual that came with the 1440 you cannot use the thread dial with metric threads.. English threads are fine but it says the split nut must remain engaged on the leadscrew at all times when threading metric. Seems the only way to do this on internal without crashing the lathe is to hit the brake stop as soon at the tool tip reaches the recess, the run it in reverse after the tool is backed out.

      Mine is the same. I actually had a lapse in thought and confused my lead screw and feed rod in my head thinking about that. But mine is the same. Internal would definitely be challenging. I just never put a lot of thought into that yet because I haven't done any internal metric threads on my lathe.

      @@Toolmaker001 I think if you go fairly slow and hit the foot brake/stop in the relief it should be OK. Wind back the cross slide and reverse out.

    how do you know the thread depth

    • @Toolmaker001
      @Toolmaker001  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can get a unified thread chart off of Google play. It will give you all the minor and major thread diameters. You can subtract ID from OD and get tolerance.

      You did a great job on those threads. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day.

    . Novices need the hands-on, moment by moment experience at each point in the internal threading process. Unfortunately, you completely neglected this. At 5:40, suddenly we have threads.

      I do a much better video on this. Check it out. Actually a few good threading videos.

      I did another internal & external video which I believe is much better.
