Beyond epic! *8 months later edit: I made an old General Electric radio into an amp using some pointers from this video! Thanks! I didn't need to disconnect the AM band, with my bass I can turn it up on the knobs and override the AM signal. I now have the video of mine on my channel. Been wanting to try it since 2020, and here we are!
I like it, was expecting a tube radio to amp conversion, nonetheless, this is still pretty cool, I kinda liked the idea of keeping the radio bands in with the sound so you could play along when a song was on the radio, perhaps adding a second volume knob from for the radio.
Love the idea, looks great. Question: Can you use this for a bass guitar? And if I get the wires mixed up, will I damage the guitar? (Mine is a 1950"s -ish 220v Zenith radio)
I actually used my bass with the radio I modified using the method in the video. It's pretty low volume, but it is there and messing with the knobs on the bass can give you different effects. I plan on using mine specifically for classical guitar amplification via piezo pickup.
Sweet mod! I think you could also have wired the input jack as a switch, right? Then you could still use the radio, but as soon as you plug in the guitar, you disable the radio input and it's off to the races. FWIW, I like the effect when you had the guitar playing over the AM radio static. That could be cool in some applications.
Awesome! I wonder if you could tweak the tone circuit to get rid of some of the bass or perhaps a ~.001 cap where the guitar signal enters the amp? Thanks for the demo! Tim
Thanks for this! I've been trying to do this and followed most tutorials that say to try to connect the positive wire to one of the volume pot lugs, and nothing. Gonna try again with one of those switches, maybe it works! Yours sounds great :)
when all else fails, look for the amplifier chip, search the part number online to find the datasheet, find which pins are the inputs and try to follow the traces from there
So many questions....Can you convert a tube radio! id love to see that. do you think you could add resistors and capacitors for different tones?? hope to see more

to anyone interested in converting a radio into a guitar amp and plugging a guitar into it with a guitar cable, please learn electronics and electricity. You MUST use an isolation transformer or risk electrocution!!!!
@@heggy_69 i’m not entirely positive, but I would use an isolation transformer regardless the issue is when you plug your guitar into a modified amp your guitar is grounded and if there’s nothing to isolate the high voltage from the ground if anything were short, it’s gonna go through the guitar and you’re gonna get electrocuted so I would use isolation transformer even on a solid state application. Maybe somebody knows more than me and can correct me if I’m wrong, but I say better safe than sorry and if you don’t need it no harm done
No. It is expected sound. Radio has low impedance to reproduce guitar sound, and hight frequencies are sucked. There is easy fix! You just plug in pedal with buffer in between, for example Tubescreamer which has buffer even when its off.
This is straight genius. I’ve been pondering how to add Bluetooth to a vintage radio and your method is the ticket. Thanks a ton!
This sounds so good I thought there would be more distortion
Simple, efficient and it sounds great for this little radio !
Thank from France...
I can spot a fellow lefty who plays the guitar right-handed. Nice job!
Fantastic!
I want one.
Can't wait for the new Raconteurs album.
Found an old clock radio I had as a kid and am gonna do this to it!!
Beyond epic!

Il più bel progetto di amp mai visto. Wow è bellissimo!!!
This sounds great! That's such a good way to repurpose an older radio. 📻
That was really fun to watch. Good job man.
Sweet. This helped me a lot in converting my old tube amp into guitar use.
Thanks For the AWESOME Video. Just got an old Valve Radio and wanting to make guitar out of it. Now I can after seeing this. Thanks Man
I used to play the old fallout games using this hack for sound. all the pops and crackles make for an authentic fallout experience.
Oh man, This just took me to Ebay to try and recreate this. Great Video, and awesome sound for that small of a Radio!
Did it work out?

This is awesome definitely a go retro mod for old radio
Top job!
sounds better than some boutique amps i've heard. very cool
Good tone on this one!
I use to have that radio a long long time ago.
Great video. Like many others here, just got an old radio and I'm going to try to figure out where to tap into it to make this happen! Thanks!
I loved this so much! Thanks for making this.
Way cool and exciting...excellent Presentation

Great contribution!
great my dude!
That's awesome! You need more views bro!

Definitely...lets see the speaker cab build!
Your channel is fantastic, bro. Subscribed. Keep up the great work!
Very cool. Thanks!
Nice video and mod! Is that a Supro amp in the back (on top of the cab)?

That's where you get a treble master pedal like the one that the guitarist for Queen used and it is like the original tube screamer
a cap or a tiny isolation transformer should absolutely do the trick
Put a buffer pedal or pedal with buffer (Tubescreamer, SD-1) in between guitar and radio (amp) and you get hights back. Then drop volume on radio.
Would have been curious to hear how it sound with the am signal in background
Did you also install a 3 pronged power plug. Probably a good idea. Nice implementation
Cool video!
You could put a hp out that cuts off the internal hp when plugged in
a pc in this would be super cool
Sounds great!!

I'm sure you could adapt a footswitch to that "loud" button and use it as a booster :D
Super Cool man!
Cool
hi! it is possible to insert a output jack as easy as the input?
I just need more amps to boost signals, this will come really handy to me
Interesting 🤔 work 🎉🎉
Nicee video man! And yes please take this to another level, change the speaker, add things, change things, I’ll watch it...
Can we just unplug everything from the switch and then weld only the femelle jack output on it ?
Does it takes overdrive pedal well?
And I got what I got all despite you
And I get what I get just to spite you :D
Hi there, would you have interest in checking Line Mixer on your channel? I would like to work with you but didn't find your contact email.
Sorry but I don't really understand the question. Also email is on my website.

Does the FM still work.?
Yep.

Sorry... what is that shitty sound.... erf... lol?
