For the first time, American weapons have been tested on a real war front where the enemy fights back instead like people of villages like Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan which the US has fought and lost. Russian weapons have demonstrated to the world who is boss.
Iraq and Afghanistan shouldn't be mentioned in the same sense as Vietnam- they managed to harass the US forces out of their countries with guerrilla tactics after a prolonged occupation. Vietnam outright defeated the western forces (with Soviet and Chinese support).
The Vietnamese did fought back. They had no missiles, air force, or navy, and the amerikans and their lackeys still had to run home as fast as they could w/tails between their legs.

They had SA-2 surface to air missiles, coastal patrol gunboats (like the ones that did not attack Maddox and Turner Joy, but were there nonetheless) and they also had an air force, which flew air combat missions against US Air Force and Navy aircraft.
