    I think a few videos detailing just what the build/crew requirement changes are between the various classifications would be very interesting to a lot of viewers. I might suggest four videos in a series going over each of the classifications, under 24 meters, under 500 gross tons, under 3000 gross tons, above 3000 gross tons, and then maybe a fifth talking about what a passenger yacht (more than 12 guests) requires. Of course I suppose all this might fit inside one, slightly long video.

      @@YachtsforsaleblogI was going to ask exactly the same question.
      Everyone say that additional regulations apply by going over 500 GT and over 12 guests, but I'm still not able to find anywhere the details about those additional regulations to meet.
      If you can do a video covering the topic, that will be awesome.

    I think the Benetti B.Yond 37m should have qualified for this list. Under 500GT build of steel, and a 5000 nm range. Others to mention might have been Lynx new 32m project and Jet Tern Selene 128 (Nordhavn's main competitor).

    Finally, speed, range and fuel quantity, listening to so many specifications that yachts can so many miles at such and such a speed without ever knowing how much fuel it can carry is so confusing, thank you for adding in this fuel factor.

    Sea state also is a huge factor on range, so it's always a an estimate. Always to be taken with a pinch of salt, which I guess is a given in the middle of the ocean!

    What type of yacht would be best for those who want a house boat but want to take their boat out into blue water to live full time? I think it would be cool if somebody bought up a Ticonderoga-class cruiser that is going to be scrapped because it was built in the 1980s to be convert it into a yacht, that boxy super structure looks very enticing with it's interior volume.

  • @colin.chaffers
    @colin.chaffers ปีที่แล้ว +2

    All of these yachts tick the boxes for an explorer yacht, so it would come down to the look and feel of the yacht in detail, such as, redundancy of systems and as you said storage of food for longer passages , BTW I still love the X-treme 105 its beach club area is awesome, although its not in this league for world exploration. Good job team and look forward to the next blog. David Seal: Some say "he is master of TH-cam yachting blogs, others say he is David Seal with a wiggly bum", all I know is his channel is simply the best, better than all the rest.

    The range is calculated by engine efficiency over distance, so it isn't arbitrary. As for storage, the Nordhaven 120 has a tank deck for quite a bit of storage. In fact, Aquaholic did a rather thorough exploration of the 120 a year or two ago.

    Great piece of reporting on a hot and very much topic of the moment. I love the CDM Flexplorer but my heart will go out to Bering. Nordhavn, in my humble opinion, is not in the league. Range at snail speed is faking it a bit, and also, no explorer should be made of 'plastic', even good quality plastic.

    Hello David, it's a great idea to add a comparison sheet for this kind of video. Just a question I have about building for Explorers. Isn't steel still the strongest material for a yacht hull? An explorer encounters many dangerous things on his way. Thanks David.🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍

    Loved the comparison. Thanks for including the Nordhavn. I like the brand, the only issue I have is the crew areas, they are just plain white walls with a wood trim. figuring if I ever get one, I would need a full time crew, that area is enough to turn me off. I think crew areas should be dressed up as well, somewhere between what guest area looks like and the plain white walls look. It just reminds me of a US kitchen in the ‘80’s and I hated that look back then. of the four, I’d probably go with the Bering, mainly due to having the flybridge.

    Another great vlog David, such great yachts coming out, Wow! It would be my dream to have a yacht with a helicopter. Have you been made aware of 'Samara' built by Pachoud yachts of New Zealand, which I consider to be an explorer yacht? I would love it if you could focus a little on what other manufacturers have been putting out beside those in Europe (which is obviously nearer you home and far easier to cover understandably).
    P.S. Did you bump into Victoria and Rico on your Bering visit and view their 75? I trust they were keen to show you all over it as they seems to be there a great deal? I loved the ending ✅🖖

    There are no penguins in the North Pole. The polar bears would eat them if it were so. Penguins are naturally found in the Southern Hemisphere. Clearly Northrop & Johnson need to send you out for a week on an explorer yacht to catch up on your trivial knowledge. 😉 🐧

    Nordhavn specializes in smaller vessels to be sure. The 120 was an anomaly. Just one was built and no others have or will follow for what ever reasons. Nordhavn focuses on what they do really well 40 to 100 ft vessels that really work. Many other explorer vessels never really go to the extreme places that Nordhavn go to. Just like wannabes who buy suv cars thar never see dirt or mud let alone go off reading. A Nordhavn 57 made out off composite materials made the north west passage. How many others of any material have done that? The Nordhavn won't get a beauty contest award by any stretch of the imagination they are built as capt steve says..like a tank..with a luxury feel. Nordhavn owners go around the world in 40 to 60 ft vessels how many shutter at the thought of doing that in a 40 to 60 meter vessel?. They just cruise the med or the Caribbean. Do they actually cross in thier yacht? No many would prefer shipping thier eye candy on a real boat . Nothing personal david just my 2 cents worth. I love your work
