Jacko was so far from the usual guest on Open Mike. He rocks up and brings up a beef from 20 years ago. It was a famous episode, Mike said it was his most memorable.
Dees fan here and I totally agree. Schwartz was in deep shit with his gambling problem and certainly seemed to be pulling others down with him. Sam called this out and Schwartz just bagged out Sam to deflect any criticism.
Jacko was an enormously talented footballer that could of dominated the league but couldn't control his emotions. Opposition players and coaches took advantage of that.
Talented player physically, not mentally. Some of the stupid ridiculous things Mark did on field did not belong in the VFL. It was an official league, not a bloody circus like womens football.
All he did was them the 2 players his bookie because they had him asked , it’s not like schwarz got them into betting or was constantly enabling the 2 players to bet .
Met Stephen Quartermain as a kid, and as nice a guy as you’ll meet. Really remember great he was. Love Dunstall as well, and seems all is good between them now.
By entertainer, I take it you mean thug. If watching men thump each other is what you enjoy, then you need to watch boxing. The kind of thuggery that Jacko (and his ilk) engaged in was (at best) cheating. It certainly wasn't footy. And don't say it was all part of the game because it ruined football and would have ended it as a sport if it hadn't have been stamped out. Parents were simply steering kids away from playing it out of fear of them being assaulted.
I love the perfectly legitimate reason he gave for smacking three players in the head. "Because they were hawthorn mate, you know, look at the colours, please, the most boring team in the league."
Jacko is a funny chap and he even admitted that the talks things up to make footy more exciting. I know Mike and people calling him a clown, please. The AFL/VFL media have to meet certain guidelines where Jacko didn't have the same boundaries as a player. Jacko always went over the top and made a name for himself. This was his way of going through his football career. He knocked 3 people out, so what? That doesn't make him a great player, it just puts the focus on him. He was a show pony which people either loved or hated. I found him entertaining.
