    That was an at the absolute limit for what I'd feed through that chipper. And it would be a rare occurrence at that.

      No doubt. It is a rare occurrence as we have a Prentice to pick up logs that are too large for the chipper to handle.

    I really appreciate the closeups for what they are but the cameraman could have been seriously hurt, or worse, if that trunk had flipped suddenly due to any of the nubs getting grabbed. It doesn't have to be a curved piece to move suddenly. I've seen it firsthand and remain a little extra paranoid since. Stay safe.

    Why don’t you just let it auto-feed? There shouldn’t be a need to keep pushing and pulling the bar. The machine should stop the feed when the rpm’s drop, and start feeding again when they increase.

      The chipper knives had just been changed and when you are feeding large/max diameter wood the sharp knives will pull the wood in regardless of the auto feed and will overcome the engine and stall it out. The operator was trying to stop the feed wheels much sooner than when auto feed would normally kick in. I suppose we could have set the auto feed to engage sooner, but turning it off and manually feeding keeps us from having to reset the auto feed values.

    Chips are small , dull blades , where's your auto feed 🤔

    • @Falcor73
      @Falcor73  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The knives were brand new!!! Sharp blades and a properly adjusted cutter bar will yield smaller chips. Auto feed was turned off. When the knives are new, this chipper has a tendency to keep pulling big logs in even though the feed wheels have stopped and it will stall the engine out and sometimes clog the chute. So, when we have close to max diameter logs, we manually feed the log through, instead of changing the auto feed times for one log.

      The smaller the chips the better! there Tree man 1965. Sharp knives & the anvil is set where it’s suppose to be.

    Feel so sad, The tree, just got finished

      @Falcor73  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The tree had already fallen over in a wind storm. We were not responsible for the tree's demise.

      You can see the stump of the tree to the right of the chipper, presumably blown over by the wind. The tree at this point is dead and just needs to be chipped and the area cleaned up.

      @Falcor73  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t disagree, but it was the most cost effective and efficient way of cleaning up during the large storms that decimated the area.
      What would you suggest we do in the future? Are there companies that will come out and just pick up random species of wood scattered around a city?
