What about if your vlogging on a street and it captures someone’s garden? Does that mean you’ll get sued? Absolute stupidity.
What about council CCTV cameras on the street. Can we sue the council now??
Dash cams that capture the neighbours property every day we drive? Where does it stop??

Hi Asbestos, the right to privacy is a fundamental human right in the United Kingdom. So if someone is collecting someone else's personal data beyond his or her private boundary, then they must be compliant with the UK Data Protection Laws or face penalties. Thank you for your valuable insights.

@@KazientPrivacyExperts so is the council breaking the law as they capture my garden with street CCTV?
Or the TH-camr who vlogs walking past my house and garden you can clearly see in his videos? Is he breaking the law?
Or the 3 neighbours who’s dash cams capture me, my house/windows every morning and night as they go to and from work? Are they breaking the law?

@@KazientPrivacyExperts What about the specific question that was asked and your lack of a specific answer to the point. Moreover, if a dashcam records an illegal act that results in an accident affecting the user's car, are you suggesting that the recording cannot be used to prove the wronged party's innocence, and the faulty party's guilt?

Driving passed someone’s house with a dash cam isn’t the same as having a permanent camera installed looking at someone else 24/7.

From what I understand, they are triggered by an activation zone and don’t film 24/7 like a traditional CCTV camera in public.

This case also involves the camera owner threatening the single female neighbour with sending material to the Police and the camera owner lying about the uses and operation of the multiple cameras on his property - to suggest the Ring Doorbell was the sole cause is sensationalism as usual.

Paragraph 134 of that judgement..."I consider that the balance between the the legitimate interests of the defendant and the right of the claimant to privacy and a home home life are met in the relation to processing of video personal data from the ring doorbell, and I am so satisfied. That is because any video personnel data of the claimant is likely to be collected only incidentally as she walks past, unless the claimant stands on the defendant's door and rings the doorbell, and I consider his legitimate interest in protecting his home wether he is there or not are not overridden by her right to avoid such incidental collection on a public street, albeit in the vicinity of her home,...."
The audio was dealt with separately as was how he handled that data once collected.
So tired of these misleading reports on the judgement, bad reporting BBC.

Personally it’s an invaluable asset I’ve got a CCTV system and also a Ring doorbell and find it so useful to see who’s at my door/speak to them. Yes my cameras also cover the door however getting the notification when it’s been pressed and getting an instant live video call just makes it so much easier. However, I have a Ring battery doorbell and personally for the money don’t recommend it, going to switch it for a Reolink wired cam, cheaper price and better quality!

One has to have the FULL facts not partial to understand the ruling. The fact that the person involved with the camera was in breech due to several cameras and harassing the neighbour with threats as well. Nothing to do with just having a ring doorbell.

That's why I don't point my camera at someone else house. Even if they got incident with their property --it is none of my business. The other day, people broke into their home, and they, including the police, asked me if I recorded anything on my CCTV; I said no and showed them the footage on my phone, which didn't point to their property. Better safe than sorry.

The doorbell cam is always recording and gathering your data. You're not the only one who has access to it. Everything you say and do in front of it is permanently stored on a database. I hope the dummies who buy them soon realise that.

    I have a doorbell camera
I first got it to keep me safe from my old neighbour.
See , in 2020 I was the victim of a sex crime perpetrated against me by my neighbours son .
They threatened me daily to keep me quiet so I got it for proof of what they were doing for police, unfortunately the police are so is that now if we the victim don’t have proof then they do nothing , as in my case .
Without my camera at that time I dread to think what they’d have done to me . It was the only deterrent

This is absolute tripe you have no right to privacy in a public space as long as it’s not intentionally looking into someone’s private space i.e. windows no has been broken if it’s visible from a public area it’s fair game. the fact that this argument is still going on is mind-boggling there is so much information online about it especially on TH-cam. There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind.

Cctv does not record forty meters down the road. Never record excess footage, make sure it is stuff in your property. Not other people, simple. However if people can phone you on a bus, is this balanced law? However, if you are filming local stalkers you can keep the footage, as it is being used to detect crime. It is normally stalkers who have the problem.😂

  • @cctvmanbob

The only odd bit to me is the "not to look over PUBLIC area " , However it is not against the law to take photo's OR film anyone in a pubic area.. There is not an assumption of privicy in a pulic place .. I agree fully with the other points , well made. There is no reason to record sound normaly.
As a photographer for over 30 years and involved with cctv for over 20 years I am fairly up on the leagal side, BUT I am no expert !

Whoever this person is who has been fined this is clearly a witch hunt that he’s been unlucky enough to fall foul of yet his neighbours will get away with the same issue.
