Love how Carly initiates comedy gold in Hubnut videos. Wouldn't it have been easier using a bit of masking tape to line up the bits of badge for gluing ?
I've had great success with Cherry Blossom boot polish for black plastics! It really does work, can usually pick it up from various pound land type stores in the squeezy bottles with the application pad. I bet it will work on the Corsa :)
I had some faded detailing on a Nissan that was bothering me It was an off white instead of a deep red 5 minutes with an appropriately coloured Sharpie pen worked perfectly and it still looked good 3 years later when I sold it
@@MattBrownbill Yes, that will probably do the job for about the same time. n-butylacetaat, is the key ingredient. That actually reacts with the plastic surface. Owatrol just gives a nice protection-layer. Next spring I'll use B to B and finish it with Owatrol!
@@inspirality As a warning do not use a sharpie pen to change the colour of your cat. Someone tried that and did a horrible job. Yes that was stupid but so was the prosecution by the RSPCA. Hi guy's it was nice to meet you on Sunday and it was nice to share my Conversion of what I've done to my 2008 Berlingo Sorry I didn't introduce myself my name is Carl
7:15 checking the fill plug undoes before draining the oil?! That's not very HubNut, is it! Was nice to speak with you at the NEC - I was with Davy who now owns Arnold Smart. I was going to stop by for a quick chat on Sunday but you had a queue every time I walked past 😂 Hope you enjoyed the show despite being so busy.
I've been using that owatrol stuff for years now. I really don't think you can find anything better then that. I do mine properly once a year brilliant stuff.
I was there on Friday, bought a window sticker from you. Didn't get to chat as the stall was busy with others chatting to you. Same with Steph, you must all have had an exhausting weekend. It was great to see you, Matt and Steph in person. The show was amazing, I spent too much money on models in the autojumble! 😄 I'm currently looking for a classic car myself. When I get one, my Hubnut and I drive a classic stickers will be proudly displayed in the window. 😃 👍
And now, a musical interlude, inspired by one Mr. Hubut. It's a long way to Temporary a long way to go. It's a long way to Temporary to the sweetest Bella I know...
Hi Ian. An absolutely fantastic tinkering video - my favourite. My merch has arrived and thanks for the special instruction writing a random fact about the fleet. Also I want to say thanks for all the content and the brilliant entertainment over the years. Cheers Ant.
To make plastic back to it's colour I do the following. Purchase 2K clear coat in two parts from a car paint factor. Mix up a dessert spoon full of both parts into a dish you don't want anymore. Then with gloves wipe it onto the plastic with a small cloth.Dont coat paint or glass as it's almost impossible to remove. Let it dry and it will last for many years. Be safe, don't inhale it or get it on your hands etc..
I use Gtechniq C4 and I won’t use anything else. It really is that miracle answer. I used it on my 1999 BMW 3yrs ago and apart from one spot I’ve had to re-do once, it still looks perfect.
Try adding a bit of turps to it and apply with a brush and 10 mins later wipe off with a rag.... burn the rag when finished or it might burn down your shed
You can reastore plastic with a heat gun or blow lamp just do not overheat it, a quick waft around with a blow lap brings the plastic back up. Never don it myself but I have seen it done.
Bella colour is really lovely... Miss Hubnut always a real star, working on the fleet. NB: Use a tiny drill bit and drill a hole in bottom of foggy indicator lens. This not only allows water to drain out but allows air to demist the fogginess .I have done this a numerous times on defective lens, works like a charm
Ive found that the only semi-permanent solution to faded plastic trim (after all, nothing is truly permanent) is Wurth dye. It's rather expensive, but I applied some to the bumpers of Hayley, my 205 GRD you reviewed several years ago, and 18 months later it's still looking good. It is a dye, however, so its a good idea to mask off the edges, as it has a tendency to dye the paintwork.
The first sunny dry day today in SW Scotland after two weeks of 'anticyclonic gloom' and up in the hills around me, 'anticyclonic drizzle', with farm vehicles turning the local roads into mudpits, I thought it might be a good idea to get some of the muck off the car today. So I took a trip to the nearest carwash, some 25 miles away. Only problem was getting home without getting the car mucky again as a result of mucky roads and truck spray. I somehow sort of managed it. Seems the roads to the Brum NEC from west Wales on Friday were rather drier than here, so didn't spoil all your hard work polishing up the Berlingo.🙂
It's a Mr Hubnut fix, further fixes may be needed Steph did a lovely video from the NEC with lots of interviews as to why people own the cars they do, we all have that special car
17.30 "Ah, I have an idea" "Oh oh" - Carly's somewhat despondent/apprehensive voice of experience. New rear number plate might be good before next MOT and smarten things up a bit. Pleased that you've met the inimitable 6D Diesels. Stand looked good.
When you bought that Corsa I posted the best way to get rid of the moisturiser in your head lights is to take off the bulb rubber I did on my zafira my garage advertised me he took them off and no more moisturiser nothing to loose Ian it works no changing the light a MOT failure
Ian, i don't buy those expensive products for blackening bumpers etc,, i use black shoe polish and it brushes up a treat as well as providing a little waterproofing
And off on a completely different tangent, Coors Lite beer in the US uses shoe polish greatly diluted of course to flavour and colour their mountain fresh product. At least, that's the rumour, and I must say, remembering a tinge of the old Kiwi brown paste taste, that's a fair description of this delightful brew. Burp. Of course, Kiwi polish originated in Australia, so fair's fair.
Stick with the Dipetane, I took the EGR off our Jeep last month (V6 Diesel) after sbout 8 months of using it, it was clean, nearly spotless. Believe me, it didn't look like that when i started using Dipetane.
Have the same results using it to pass the emissions test on either petrol or diesel engines. I worked for the lad who was behind dipthane many years ago and we could have had it in drums but at the time we mistakingly thought it was snake oil 🙄
Recently tested in the USA again, same old 200 to 1 BS. It's actually naptha gasoline, whatever you call that in the UK. Normally used in pump up Coleman camping stoves, and a lot cheaper when purchased that way. Plus, you can ditch the cicus barker 200 to 1 nonsense that makes it "magic" and give your car a right good glug for not much money.
Ian, if you use a hot air gun on the faded plastic on the coursa it should rejuvenate quite easily. Get some JB Weld for that cover, you can do it in place. Love the videos mate.
For the Citroen lettering I would 1. Remove the letters and clean the area. 2. Apply a length of blue painters tape across immediately below where you want the letters, as a level guide. 3. Cut or tear pieces of tape per letter piece, stick them somewhere temporarily. 4. Glue the letters on and retain with the pieces of blue painters tape from step 3.

Did a man ever hear of double sided tape? The stuff is about 1.5 mm thick and is what the badges were stuck on with from new.... As for the gearbox end, my flux core welder would sort that out quickly and as permanently as you would ever need. It's really handy once you get the hang of it.
I always carry some spare gorilla tape and six inches of Velcro. Plus of course a pair of rusty scissors to cut the desired length of double sided tape without sticking to it, and hacking the velcro up. One odd use: Keeps the old trousers up when the belt buckle breaks.
I remember when "back to black" type products actually contained a black pigment (I used them on the bumpers on my Renault 18 back in the mid-80s). Now they just seem to be some sort of clear silicone.
I honestly applaud the attempts at repairing. I'm a big enjoyer of a 'temporary' bodge. But that badge was tragic. Just buy a new one which will be complete with sticky adhesive, I'm sure. On cheap exterior/interior OEM-parts; well, sometimes they fit nicely, sometimes less so. Left door-mirrors seem to be a fun target for kids these days. I now buy them for 18,- new/imitation and always have some spares on stock; they fit alright. The originals are 5 times more expensive. Imitation is a gamble, so it seems.
@HubNut the other thing about French cars is they use sizes of bolts nobody else does. Typical spanner sets come in 20,22,24... but Citroën will be 18,21,23 etc🙄😭🇮🇪
The Citroen badge on the back door: So there isn't some sort of two part, quick and strong adhesive, like what they use to use here in the states to reattach convex rear view mirrors to the bigger mirror with less convex-ness?
