    The instrumentation on this is amazing of course! Steely Dan can take you on a great ride always. I suggest one maybe not talked about much "here at the western world"

    I don't think there's a bad Steely Dan song, and I'm glad you continue to react to them. If you're looking for more suggestions, a good one that often flies under the radar is Doctor Wu, from the Katy Lied album.

    Steely Dan, a group of men who each studied their own instruments and music theory, coming together to create a vibration that will last throughout Eternity. Beautiful Music, Pretzel Logic.

    The beauty of The Dan is that they kept evolving. If listen to their albums sequentially you can hear it. I've always loved this one. The incredible lead guitar by Walter Becker dazzles Me today as much it did in 1974 when I was a sophomore in high school.

    This was Walter Becker's first time doing a guitar solo on one of their tracks. I love it. It has a beautiful angular sound when he takes rather simplistic shapes on the guitar and places them in such a way as to produce some outside notes and dissonance. Really lovely solo.

    I agree terrieb13, ANY Steely Dan song can change my mood, always for the better. I bought this Album 'Pretzel Logic' when I was 12 years old, coming of age especially with music. all of their Albums soon followed and they remain my favorite all time artists. I always felt my music taste was just a little more sophisticated than my friends who were listening to The Beach Boys,. who I love of course. But I still feel that way!!

    OMG Harri!! My first SD purchase and EVERY songs is literally encased in amber. SD became my absolute GOAT band after. Thank you! This song is such a blend of Blues and Jazz that it was so different from the mainstay of Led Zep and Aerosmith that it grabbed on to you hard. At least for me, coming from a classical music and folk background. Thanks!!

    Harry - you would REALLY like an album called "The New York Rock 'n Soul Revue"; a live album fronted by Donald Fagan, but also features Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs, Phoebe Snow, along with others. It was recorded live at the Beacon - I would rarely ever recommend a live album but this one was recorded to sound awesome, like they were in a studio. It's full of music like this (in fact it includes this track).

    One of Steely Dan's best bluesy rock hits, from Pretzel Logic in 1974. With its wonderful catchy instrumentel refrain, stupendous guitar work from Walter Becker, actually the first Steely Dan song Walter played on. Such a trippy, phenomenal hit that has absolutely stunning harmonies that just make for perfection. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and PNCombie. One of my favourites from Steely Dan. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

      Actually , Becker played bass on the first two Steey Dan albums . Can't Buy a Thrill and Count Down to Ecstacy . They were pretty much a self contained band on those albums , after that they became Becker and Fagan with a whole bunch of excellent session musicians .

    • @steelyd2
      @steelyd2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paulfuller8985 I think he’s saying this is the first song with Becker playing lead guitar (which it is). He did of course play bass on the first two records and then occasionally on the later records.

    • @diamonddog13

      @steelyd2 On their two last albums, Becker played both bass and guitar on almost every track. Also on Fagen's Kamakiriad.

    Loved your reaction, Harri! So cool seeing that desired reaction from you as soon as the song started. To select a song that I'm hoping you've never heard before and then evoke that response is rewarding. Thanks for putting a smile on my face when we haven't been smiling a lot here in Austin after an "Ice Hurricane" destroyed property and our beautiful cedar elms and oaks 12 days ago. We're getting back on our feet and I just spent 8 hours outside cleaning up mountains of limbs and branches the ice sent crashing down on my roof and around my yard. To walk in after that exhausted, and with a cold ice tea in my hand, and then to see that you did a double-shot of my selections was diamonds to this Texan's ears. Thank you, brother! 👊😎

    Steely Dan is just art and needs no words about their music. Wikipedia say it`s a combination from elements of Jazz, Funk, Rock, R&B and Pop ! What the fuck is it now ? Do we always have to put everything in drawers ? I stick with it - it's just art ! Best regards @all from hamburg (germany)

    The name Steely Dan came from a 1957 Novel, Naked Lunch. Steely Dan was the name of a metal dildo in the story! Steely Dan is in my top 5 fav all time bands with Rush, Chicago, Styx, and Pink Floyd! Thank you for your excellent reactions!
