'EU candidate status is a kind of anti-depressant pill': Albanian PM Edi Rama • FRANCE 24 English

  • This week on Talking Europe we take a look at some of the other countries, aside from Ukraine, that are knocking on the EU's door to join the bloc. EU leaders held a summit on Thursday with the Western Balkan states to discuss their accession process. For Albania, that started back in 2008 and still hasn't advanced to the negotiations stage. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke to FRANCE 24’s Luke Brown on the sidelines of the EU-Western Balkans leaders' meeting in Brussels.

I think it is clear that EU does not want Albania until Albania reaches that stage where it won't really need EU anymore. I think the accession process can be some sort of blueprint for implementing a well functioning state based on western experience. At the end of this process, I think it is irrelevant if we join or not. I think at that point, it is highly likely that the approval rate for EU will drop significantly, so... I think we should try to negotiate with EU a deal, which requires the same steps as joining, but without blockades and traps on every step. The end result might be a deal like those of switzerland or norway. Like this we can have less bullshit on the way, and we don't scare retards in eu countries that albania is joining and their world will collapse.

Albania should be remembered what happened to the prosperity of bigger countries such as Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal when Euro currency was introduced and how these countries are still suffering with unemployment, economic stagnation and other social issues
Albania will be smart to progress while not join EU
Switzerland should be a model to follow

    • @forzaazzurri1471
      @forzaazzurri1471 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

There are benefits to being in the Union, such as trade and tax treaties that would make Albania able to compete with other EU countries when selling its products. So by keeping Albania outside, the EU is effectively condemning this very small European country to a future of poverty and isolation. If Romania and Bulgaria were allowed to enter, Albania which has reformed itself far better than those two countries should be allowed to enter a priori.

I currently can proudly say, I am an albanian living in the capital.
I sincerely don't need the EU, EU needs me.
Already getting payed enough, so there is literally no need for EU.
EU is good for poor people, not for those who already got a stable job working for EU company from Albania.
We really don't need EU anymore because we went very far ahead.
Even to Italy in many regards. Many Italians decided to stay in Albania.
So all in all, if you make Albania an EU member, then all my benefits are:
Easier to get a job, which I already have, not really needed.
That's all. If I want to do tourism, I can do it for 3 months in the EU.
Rama was absolutely right. He is saying those things as someone who does not care about the EU anymore.
It is more like a bunch of people calling Rama there and he feels he is wasting his time.
'WE DONT NEED YOU' is the real meaning of what Rama is trying to say, 'Why did you even call me here?'.
Plus the EU makes up alot of stuff that is just ridiculous.
Also I am sure Rama will not split with Macedonia, because there is no need for EU anymore.
EU is hiring albanians because they are in need of professionals.
My prediction is that Albania will become like a small Switzerland or Dubai in the Balkans in the next 5-10 years.
It got everything it needs. You can easily get a good job if you are a professional and get payed the same a german is getting payed.
You got mountains and the beach very closely together.
They will add the train from Albania to Kosovo. They will build skyscrapers.
EU companies will be hungry for albanian workers.
Salaries will go through the roof. (70k-90k euros per year will become normal)
So there is literally no need for EU anymore.

Thats why EU wanst cosnatntly to get mroe countries not only for GEOPOLITICAL,POLITICAL but also economy to STRENGHTEN THE CAPITAL CENTER WICH IS GERMANY BY USING CHEAP LABOUR FROM TEH BALKANS,EASTERN EUROPE,ASIA,AFRICA......

Same for Croatians, Bulgaria and many other EU countries.
They are more in need of professionals rather than cheap prices, because for cheap they got Indian and Bangladesh. I know they have hired many Germans and they could not finish projects, same for Italians.
That's my experience, not saying always the case.

The EU is an elitist club. You should either be one of the rich guys or you should be particularly important to one of the big guys. Albania is neither of these things and thus kept at arms length.
It's nothing new, really. It's the same tune that has been playing for the last 130 years, but toned down considerably. It used to be unfair division of Albanian lands by Great European powers 110 years ago, now it's the economy. They are the cause we are where we are today and they will be the cause for the indefinite delay of our acceptance.
I'm not expecting much, honestly. They simply don't want us as part of their club. This much is quite obvious.

The EU is like a balloon which expands but does not have the strength to lift up the payload because it gets too heavy every time a candidate is added. It does not give the benefit as it was perceived when it was created. The idea was to prevent another war in western Europe but the irony is that the EU becomes the creator of war. Albania thinks that the EU is like an anti depressant pil but the analogy is more correct if he would say that it is like a viagra pil that boost the ego for a day or less.

Bearing in mind that without the key role of Albania and Balkans the EU wouldn’t have been where it is today. Our secret of not being able to join EU is the dark history of the dark alliances made to innocent Albanians over years. To be objective, we one day will be EU members but this would not change the fact and history that our role is only just to fulfil the stomach of hungry beings, but further it is for the piece of Europe and togetherness which is missing since the death of Gjergj Kastrioti.

Their Marketing business model is pragmatic in soliciting new “pay now play later…… maybe” membership to increase income stream and cover the Brexit deficit.
