Tamiya XV-01 First Run - Lancia Delta Integrale

  • I took my newly-built Tamiya XV-01 Lancia Delta Integrale on holiday to Wales, where I filmed this first run. We found a gravel path in a forest valley with Douglas Fir trees standing over 50m tall! The path was a very difficult surface - it was like driving on ice! However, the XV-01 was a dream to drive, so smooth and very responsive, I'm very pleased with it. In this run, the car is completely stock, and set-up exactly ad described in the build manual. I hope you enjoy the run and the scenery!
    Many thanks to my son, Alf, for his help with both the driving and the camerawork :-)

    Immensely beautiful video! Such a great job. The car, the large trees and the greenery and sun. So beatiful. I actually forgot to look at it as an XV-01 sometimes and just enjoyed the whole scenery: a beautiful car in a beautiful forest :-)

      Thank you very much for the kind words, Mikael. I am so pleased with your comment because you have said exactly what I was thinking when I put this together - spooky! Being in that lovely place gave me such a feeling - so beautiful, that I automatically started to focus on the look and "feel" of the video, rather than the content - I think you will understand what I mean my friend. Your comments are always appreciated - have a great weekend mate :-)

      @@MarkBryanRC Cheers Mark. What ESC and Motor combo would you recommend?

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Paul - would you believe mine is still bone stock? Could do with a bit more oomph though! I usually stick to the TBLE02s and fit a sensored brushless when I upgrade my Tamiyas, and the Hobbyking Turnigy 13.5T works very well with that ESC. However, if you are running LiPo I reckon the corresponding Turnigy ESC would be a good choice, my mate has used those combos and they are great quality for the price!

      @@MarkBryanRC Thanks for your help. What KV motor would you suggest?

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries, mate! I find 3,200-3,500 is about the right number! Plenty of options to gear-up, and the lower KV are more torquey and can pull the gearing. You could go crazy and fit something 4000KV+, but the car will wear out quickly!

That forest was awesome, as was most of Wales, I think I will holiday there again next year. I mounted the camera in 3 different positions and filmed the whole run from one end to the other, took ages, all for 2 minutes footage - lots of great stuff still on the table! But it was lovely to film with Alfie - he has a very keen eye and has done me proud! Very pleased you liked it - thanks again mate :-)

      One more....
      We had discussed the Hubs, and their smallish 1050 Bearings. Although it may not be a problem, if needed/wanted, I found a seriously HD option for at least the rears.....
      Tamiya (#54254) TRF201 Alum Rear Upright Set.
      Direct fit on XV-01 Rear Suspension, it increases Bearings TWO sizes, to 1350!!! And, the Bearings are Included!
      I don't know. Just sitting here in a bit of a funk, thinking again.
      If it could help you or even someone else, then it's worth a look.
      I reckon, with Brushless, and landing even small Jumps on throttle, the extra support might be worth it. I saw them for $26.00 US, at rcMart.
      Cheers Mate! Carmine 💥 ⛽

      Thank you so much, Daniele! The Lancia is a beautiful RC, and the XV01 chassis handles very well, even on the loose surface. Thanks for watching my friend! :-)

    Wow brilliant Mark! I was looking forward to seeing this one and you have certainly not disappointed. Great shots in a lovely location and really top work on the editing. Most enjoyable. The car looks fantastic and it handled that loose surface really well. I do think this will be one for me in the future. Any problems so far ? One thing I notice about your cars is that they have enormously long aerials. Are you using old school 27mhz radio gear ? The 2.4ghz ones have tiny wires that usually fit under the body which is a bonus when you roll cars over as often as I do ! Have you got any plans to soup this one up or are you happy with it in stock form? Does look good as it is but might be epic with brushless..... or it might be a car with a broken drive belt ! Anyway, I look forward to seeing more of it :-)

      Cheers matey - thought you were off the grid? Anyway, appreciate the kind words very much! That forest in Wales was so beautiful - I was lucky to have the Lancia in the car when we found it - then a few hours lost in filming, but Alfie was a godsend - he sure has a great eye for a shot!
      Haha - "enormous long aerials"!!! Yeah, proper old school me - still using a 30 year old Acoms transmitter - the only way I can drive one of these things mate. I kinda like it - just as Tamiyas should be - they even supply the aerial tube in the kits to this day. Rob has got a new Ghz setup, but I don't feel comfortable using it - so it's long aerials for me in the meantime!
      Gonna fit a mild brushless in this one - don't want to go mad, it drives like a dream as it is, and I don't want to wear the drivetrain (and belt) out too quickly - just gonna enjoy this one! Thanks for watching and I hope you had a smashing weekend my friend. :-)

    This is brilliant mark. The car looks amazing and the footage is brilliant too. How do you hold your camera at all the different locations on the car. And finally. What editing software do you use buddy

      Hi Tibs - cheers for the great comment mate! It was really enjoyable to film in that lovely forest.
      Sorry to have to give away my trade secrets (lol) but the camera is strapped on with Sellotape!!! Take a look at my Renault Alpine vid : th-cam.com/video/tzVDTDbLBcU/w-d-xo.html - you can see the Sellotape on the side of the car! OOOPS!
      I use an old version of MovieMaker, not brilliant but I'm getting to know it now, with a little tweaking, you can get it to do stuff it wasn't supposed to! Thanks again mate - have a smashing weekend :-)

      Mark. Thanks for the info. I had a look for the sellotape on the side of the car. Awsomme car by the way. I think I saw it eventually lol. I been using VideoShow app. But I think I have come to it’s limits. So I want something a bit better. So far all my videos are done on my iPad. I have just recently cadged a laptop off mother so I want to start using it to make better videos. I also like all the different angles on your video. I will have a go of the sellotape thing. I have a brand new Lancia Stratos that still hasn’t had a battery connected to it yet . It’s only been sat there 12 months lol. I would like to do a similar video of it like yours

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries Tibor. You may be able to find an install set of moviemaker on the internet - that's what I did! Should run well on the laptop - it has some nice video transistions and slo-mo settings, but a bit limited when it comes to adding text.
      Try fitting your camera to a flat plate of plastic or aluminium - I used an old mini tripod mount, unscrewed it from the legs and screwed it to a small square of plastic - then you can tape the flat plate to the RC body in different positions and adjust the angle of the camera with the tripod mount (my tripod was from the pound shop!! ) Have fun mate - that video of your beautiful Stratos would be fantastic to watch, I hope you make it soon :-)

      Thank you for the kind words! I love this location too. As for the camera, it's a GoPro Hero 5 Black, with stabilisation turned on at 60fps. The static shots were with the same camera, at 120 fps. Thanks for the vist! :)

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, dude - I used a GoPro Hero 5 Black for most of the shots, including the on-board footage. Some of the long-distance shots are filmed with a Sony Handycam. All the best! :)

      @@MarkBryanRC how can you fix the camera on model?

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FASTFASTFASTFAST87 The GoPro comes with 2 camera mounts that can be fixed to the body of the model with double-sided adhesive tape. Sometimes I just fix the camera to the car with Selotape!

    • @MarkBryanRC

      Hi Boris! About 20mph is the top speed with a standard setup. Much faster if you install a brushless setup. Thanks for watching buddy! :))
