This guy was playing against one of the greatest teams of all time & on a world cup final...and he seemed to be on his backyard kicking the ball with his kids on a Sunday afternoon. So calmed and poised.
What a player. Such brilliant reading of the game - always in the right place and such poise and elegance. A privilege watching this display. RIP Der Kaiser.
@Jeremy Grant not having a go mate they’re both equally good defenders, no point in comparing. Personally i prefer pablo Maldini as he could get the ball and dribble. As can franz beckenbauer, it was displayed during the video but i believe that the greatest player of the 1970s was Johan cruyff.
Perfect music for the Kaiser, the conductor, Composer, solo Player, Warrior, the master of long passing, without him No world Cup for sure,.....thank you greatest Captain
His creativity was at the highest point on that day. In terms of vision, he made the rest of the players look like amateurs, making instant, ever so clever, forward-moving passing decisions. The equivalent of wit in intellectual spheres (no pun intended). He did not retreat as he sometimes did in other games by opting for backward safer passes. In terms of sheer beauty, he displayed arguably the most sublimely beautifully artistic performance in the history of football. Every movement of his body was choreographed to maximize what could only be described as ballet-like aesthetic pleasure. This performance will live in eternity as a timeless work of art as long as people play the sport. Beckenbauer loved beauty. It's manifest even if he never admitted it himself. He was in his own world that day.
Ballet in football...he never lost the game view...being there to intercept, pass out of the area, being in total control of the pace, outside of the foot passing, effortless...Der Kaiser..... a maestro, RIP Franz.
He had a similar style of play to Xavi except he was taller and played at the back, quick combinations with teammates in tight spaces, classy long passes to set up chances and elegant turns to avoid getting tackled, while also being an intelligent defender. Brilliant player.

Franz is an authoritative type of player and can always put himself in the best position even when he loses.
