I subscribed to your channel last year after myself, my partner and our little one moved into a property with some private space. For the first since I was a child in my parents garden I was able to grow my own plants again!
Being furloughed for most of the year made me realise how precious quality family is, it also made me realise how stressful and antisocial my job actually was, and just how unhappy it was actually making me. I knew I had to do something about it.
Just before Christmas my partner found me an apprenticeship in Horticulture, so I applied.
I've just landed a job and have been accepted to enroll on the course. There will be a lot of commuting involved, but this is a step in a new direction and I couldn't be more excited! It's completely different to everything that I've been doing throughout the last 16 years of my working life.
I just wanted to thank you.
I watched your channel religiously last year and when I had questions last spring, you gave me honest guidance and I put everything you suggested to use. We turned our dead little space into a miniature Eden. You inspire me! Your smile inspires me! Haha.
I am 1000% going to purchase your book!

Just bounced back in time to see this from the link in this week's video. I bought your book, loved it, and then passed it along to a friend who is timidly trying out gardening for the first time.
Our place was "blessed" with 20-ft galvanized pipes (former well pipe, we reckon) scattered by previous owners and then lost deep in brambles. When we turn them up, we put them to use as bean poles: Cut the pipe in half, drive it into the ground in the garden. Then tie strings (we re-use string cut from hay bales) to an eye bolt and drop the bolt into the top of the post. Secure the strings to the ground with tent pegs, and it's ready for beans. Super-easy, and a good way to utilize stuff that would otherwise be trash! This year I'm going to try using some of the pipes to make an arch, it looks so pretty in your video.

I've been growing vertically for years using homemade trellises & tee-pees. What's great about doing this maximizing ground space, and you can use the climbing plants to shade plants that don't necessarily like full sun. I love the idea of the lattice on a wall. I might have to try that.

I have odd bits of sheep netting hanging around, thought I could make simple frame nail the netting on and emulate what you have done here with the trellis !!!!

I had some fiberglas tent pole segments from an old dead tent and drilled holes in the bottoms of my bean poles and drove the poles through sideways into the ground to keep the wind from blowing over my teepees.

Very good idea for hanging pots, could you please let me know when is the best time to fitlizer your garden I have some soft fruit plants. Thanks.
Most crops are fertilised during the growing season, while in active growth. But for fruit plants you could start now by applying a mulch of organic matter over the soil surface, which will help to gradually improve soil structure and fertility.

Plant strawberries below the bean tee pee so you will have more food! The UN is saying that there will be a worldwide food shortage this year, so let's get prepared!
For those who have patios instead of yards? Use or recycle a child's swimming pool to be filled with potting soil and put some 2x2 lumber under the pool. Then, plant the most cost effective plants to get some low cost groceries. I've been telling my neighbors to do this for the past 2 years.

Yes, I don't see why not. You would need to keep the bags really well watered, to avoid them drying out. But that would work I'm sure.

Yeah man....I'm OLD, and am a bit embarrassed to admit that I only 'discovered' that trellis method 2 years ago. I started putting trellises over 1/2 of my walkways and doubled my production without having to increase the footprint of my garden
It's great for that - increasing the growing area as if by magic!
@@GrowVeg....But we need to point out that covering N/S walkways takes a LOT less planning than the E/W. In closing, plz allow me to reiterate that I would rather listen to/absorb 7 minutes of YOUR instruction than 30 minutes of ANY other channel on Y/T....God Bless....~Eli.
Would you be able to do this with tomatoes, I've heard of tomato trees and have you ever tried this before?
I haven’t tried that before. But I reckon if you had a Vining tomato, you could certainly train it up the arch and tie it in. Worth a go. :-)
is it just normal stock fencing? From memory the fencing we have i would not think could support the weight of runner beans,. ours grew very well last year but we ended with bent broken canes.
