    It's always amazing to see how niche climbing is for strength and mobility. Seeing people who excel in other sports and have strength and technique for days appear to struggle must be pretty humbling for them.

      I would love to see people from multiple other sports try it. My money would be on the gymnasts, followed by some of the more dynamic fighters (Taekwon-Do, Karate, etc.) and decathlon. Last would probably be everyone with tons of weight, like sumo. But who knows.

      @CycletheNation 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@nilsp9426 I've found that as a regular human, it varies so much. I came from cycling and running, so my climbing is better than my bouldering due to a decent endurance base, but was clearly lacking in lats / grip strength. This in time can naturally be made better. But I agree that I'd like to see other sportspersons of good quality try climbing and bouldering. Magnus has had a few. As you have likely seen, parkour transitions well.

  • @dimitrisloterek6043

    Really interesting question! I come from a sportive environment and we tried challenges like that a lot. In my experience gymnasts are doing the best (and they probably would be quite athletic). MMA fighters, bodybuilders etc. Do not so good, I think because they are heavier, and the focus lies on spped and power.
    In general I also would say climbing is a really good training for atlethic performance (that was the reason why I started), just some things are missing, like explosive movements (specifically with legs) and some forms of coordination (like dancing) or power (like training the chest).
    In general it makes me a little bit sad that climbers tend to ignore all other sports not seeing how close they train already compared too a good over all athletic training...

    • @clown5911

      Climbing is too addictive, especially if you live near mountains, makes it hard to do other sports when you wanna climb 4-5 days a week :D I do try and balance out the week spots with my training though.

    This was a bit like putting Louis up against BJJ blue belt. I think Dan needed to learn some of the basic principles first. But TBF, he did well. I've taught first sessions with beefcakes and they are always surprised that they can't get close to what the scrawny crag rats are doing, but then climbing is at least 75% technique... just like BJJ. Still a fun video though.

    • @This_is_my_spout
      @This_is_my_spout ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to be a good climber you should aim to look like Louis, not Dan. Dan does impressively well on low and medium problems due to his upper-body strength, but his grip-strength-to-body-weight ratio simply can't get good enough to climb most of the harder routes (square/cube principle of muscle strength vs. weight).
