That being said, we see these offensive eruptions way more often now, including entire teams. The average NBA team scores over 20 ppg more than two decades ago. That is not only due to better offensive talent or rule changing. Many players just don't care about defending anymore.
This is getting ridiculous. You can't punish the guys who play defense and do the little things because they already don't get the highlights, so they need a greater chance of victory to even have a reason to be there. And without them, the moral appeal of the game is lost, since you don't reward the unsexy hard work. All that will be left are chuckers who stand around on the other end, and we saw what that did to the ratings for the All-Star game.
