Looking at this video now, I just realized how close I was to actually clearing story 1. Story 2 appears to be a replay with some extra details and much improved enemies. But, considering how bad I was at playing almost every other arcade game in the 1980:s (Ghosts and goblins for example), I think I did pretty good with this one. Good times! Thanks for sharing!
First videogame I can remember playing. My parents were broke as a joke when they got out of the Navy (mainly due to my unexpected arrival; my Mother's DD214 was dated 6 months before my birth 😂) and couldn't afford a washer/dryer set. Because of this I ended up propped on a stool in front of various arcade cabinets in laundromats as a little one. This happens to be the one I remember. Good times.
Dude, you really did a great job! I had been stuck in stage 4 area 1 for months, and seeing your ability to avoid enemies with perfect timing was magnificent, as well as saving almost 800 bullets while I usually run out... Excellent indeed! 👍
I had Capcom’s take on this game for my NES. I got it solely because I knew it was basically Rolling Thunder. This game is just an absolute classic. It’s so fun!
I remember picking up the Tengen port for my NES, they couldn’t use the standard NES gray casing because parent company Atari didn’t want the restrictive license. It’s a fun read how they worked around the lock-out chip with their black cartridges.
The flaming guys in Area 4 remind me of the final stage in _Splatterhouse_ with the rolling, bouncing logs. Both created by Namco, I wonder if they did that as an in-joke?
@@theodorehsu5023 yeah, 2 had Gimdo rebuild Geldra and added Leila as a playable character. 3 was a concurrent plot to 2 and had Agent Jay and Ellen take on Dread the arms dealer. Still it needs a comeback. A third person gunslinging adventure game.
The reason says here, South Korea's SunA Electronics' _Super/Rough Ranger_ (1987) does have plagiarized ideas that mocks similar identical gameplay but only 10-stages total and without rapid-fire machine guns
I played ROLLING THUNDER for the first time on the Commodore 64, ever since my older brother got the compilation called GIANTS (tape) for christmas 🎁🎄🎅 back in the early 1990's. I also played it on my Amiga 500, and it was absolutely slow and frustrating 😹🕹️.
I remember playing this in the arcade, thought there was some kinda music though. oh there it is, it gets so hard by the end of it too, probably cost me 50 dollars in todays money lol
Maybe if you set the arcade machine setting to make the game easier, they'd only take away 1 or 2 health bars. I also love that this comment is at the bottom, meaning that somebody hated you for saying that, even though you made a good question.
@@JohnnyCasey That’s possible, but I’ve never messed with the dip switches. In my local arcade, it was 4 health per hit. Also, I didn’t actually like this game much. That probably offended anyone who loved it. No hard feelings.
@@dalaxdercrisper957 Normally you can't kill hundreds enemies by your own, normally you can't jump three meters high, normally you cannot shoot hundreds of bullets without reloading and without full warehouse of munition... Arcades are not designed to be realistic...
Do not be deceived, this game is very hard. This gamer is exceptionally good.
It's true brother ...
Hard af, but loved every second of play 🤗
There’s always gotta be that one guy^ :eyeroll:
I know... Dark souls is overrated, before 2000 every game was dark souls
@@solouno2280 mhm. a simple game where you just slide beers down a bar to customers was dark souls. Lol.
Man, the evil leader took TWENTY-FIVE AK bullets to the neck area before going down...

Ghosts and goblins was harder than this iirc, you had to memorize everything 😆
This game is still so awesome! The sprites, the music. Top notch stuff!
Ahhh, 1980s arcade nostalgia. This was extremely hard, but the player here makes it look easy.

i watched the whole thing.
i had never seen the advanced stages and it felt like finding one eyed willy’s rich stuff.
my childhood thanks you.
Fantastic game indeed.
I think this one inspired Shinobi.
Yeah, “inspired” 😏😁
You can definitely see the similarities. Those were two of my favorite arcade games in the late 1980’s

I loved this game as a kid. I used to play at Peter Piper Pizza, in Phoenix.
I don't remember the torture porn between levels.
the theme music at the level starts sounds like the music in Dumb and Dumber when Lloyd is running through the airport to catch Mary.
Once we missed bus becuse this game and we had to walk 8 km home.
Good times xD
lots of memories for me, one of the best game i have played when i was young :) Great job !

Code Name Viper. I had that game too. Very underrated.
I remember playing this game at Dave And Busters. It’s truly grueling .
Amazing player, for an incredible game. Thanks for sharing.

wow, he just looked sooooo happy after rescuing her...
He just realized that he got friend zoned
I remember this game being so frigging hard. I never beat it. Awesome gameplay. It look like it took some time.
Good timing haha they discuss this game in the latest retro gamer magazine
Hard to believe this game was a mere 20 minutes.

The leader of the bad guys almost looks like Master Yoda from Star Wars.
I thought he was reminiscent of Phantomas from Phantomas contra New Scotland Yard...
I spent way to much money on this game back in the day.
OMG!!! I forgot all about this game. Played this when I was a kid. This game was crazy hard.
I miss this franchise. Bring back Agent Albatross, Leila, Jay, Ellen, Geldra, Neo Geldra, Gimdo and Dread.
I think they did a “Rolling Thunder 2” and for Genesis a “3”.
@@theodorehsu5023 yeah, 2 had Gimdo rebuild Geldra and added Leila as a playable character. 3 was a concurrent plot to 2 and had Agent Jay and Ellen take on Dread the arms dealer.

Insanely hard game. You got skills.
Somehow all those hooded characters reminded me of an episode from Speed Buggy.
Colorful! I like it! This would have felt right at home on the Sega Master System.
They knew what they were doing with all those cutscenes with girl during intermission.
Just like Phelios. 😉
ah,that brought back memories,well played.
Basically Shinobi, right down to the animations.
Except no crouch walk!
I remember I used to play this one often in namco 50th anniversary
Good times
I absolutely love this game!
Badass game. Hard as shit.

It's a game that reminds me of Rough Ranger and Sinobi...
Rough Ranger is the korean(and ugly)version of Rolling Thunder

Hmm wonder where Technocop got its inspiration?
I am awful at this game, but I enjoy playing it while making Bond/Sean Connery noises 😆 🤣 "Myeeeh! Maaaartiiini, shaken not schtrrrrred! Myyyyyeh!"
Magnificent!
If I could jump that high I'd probably go play in the NBA.
One time I played this game and ran out of time at the very end of the stage but still passed it and the game soft locked on the cutscene
I remember playing this as a kid and not understanding a single that was happening in this game. Happy to say, I still don't.
Excellent real gaming
It looks quite difficult. Like Elevator Action but with masked bad guys
Oh man, I forgot about this one 👀
So - Lupin the III vs Galactor?
Classic game
Along w glogo 13 or whatever it was called
8:42 - you didn't need to go in that door and then pop out, did you?
(1986) Rolling Thunder
Ohhh so this was the game SEGA “got inspired with” when they created Shinobi, and its sequel Shadow Dancer! 🤭
Can’t tell you how many times I miss jumps in this game
SMH 🤦♂️
I had a hard time with the acarde game, yes I suck, but I bought the nes version and improved.
19:30 this scene where the woman was chained up used to turn me on as a kid. Now it doesn’t anymore
It's like kung fu with a gun
Have this on a 10 in 1 arcade machine. Cant get past the second level lol
why is so similar to lupin lll nes?
❤
My advise, always duck and shoot.
Repressed ptsd
Damn i could not remember the name of this one, i knew it as "that one game where James Bond kills the purple KKK"
You have 8 health bars, but every hit takes off 4 of them. Why not just have 2 health bars? Nobody knows.

Stupid game... Death after the only shot and repeat all the level from the start - it cannot stay be funny too long... :-(

This game is too realistic then. Normally you would have died or nearly being to door's death when get shot in real life.
