Here's a "Tale of Two Stans" music video I put together using a song by Rihanna, part of the Dreamwork's HOME soundtrack, known as Towards the Sun.

Gravity Falls belongs to Alex Hirsch. I just put the music video together.
Stanley Pines is a very smart man. He has tricked everyone to thinking he was dead, and replacing himself as Stanford Pines. Every night he tries to bring his brother back from the portal for THIRTY YEARS. One summer he takes care of two twins, and still tricking them to think nothing is strange of this town. Well, just think for a minute... Stanley Pines is very smart.

They are both really smart
Yes, Stanley is just smarter in a practical way. It's clear numbers ever came to him. He's an expert conman cause he can not only read people, but he knows how to read himself. Changing himself to trick people easily. He had stacks of ID's of different aliases, makes you wonder don'it? He's like a Burn Notice character.
He built an inter dimensional portal with only a third of the instructions. Very impressive for someone who never graduated high school.

Know what breaks my heart? When Ford comes back you can see Stan go to punch him but then his hand suddenly drop and he ducks under Ford's arm. He doesn't want to push or punch Ford because he knows what happened last time he did.

i like stan the brother, he got kicked out cause he made a mistake yet he came when his brother needed him then the accident happens and he spent his whole life to fix it

one is called Stan and one is called Ford.
Both made mistakes, but really Stanley wanted to be part of the family. Stanford wanted to be a big important scientist whose name was in the books. Let his brother get thrown out AND compromised Fiddleford's sanity AAAAND led to the end of the world. Stanley spends 30 odd years trying to bring Stanford back, and he gets the cold shoulder.
I love Stanford, but in all honestly, Stanley was the better twin.
Yet, Ford didn't thank him
Stan definitely had more human emotions then Ford did, Ford for as smart as he was put everything on the line for his "science" including letting Bill pass through (enter? I can't entirely remember what he said) through his body whenever he wanted. Ford didn't even give Bill a second thought and look where it led him. Stan definitely has more human emotion (and common sense if you think about it) then Ford yet all because he wasn't seemingly as smart as all the other kids people liked Ford more.
Also can I mention here that I think their father (was he given a name? Dunno) was kind of a gold digger? He kicked his own son out of the house for a mistake which as he said "cost them potential millions". Not because Stan had a seemingly lower IQ, we didn't even know if Stan was going to get a job or not (he didn't even wait for that) but because Stan cost them "potential millions". Seems he thinks money is more important then his son right?
Anyways still waiting for Ford's REAL thanks, I mean yeah what Stan did was risky but he saved Ford from wherever the portal took him and Ford just doesn't seem to care less.
I almost cried when mable said "dipper do you think we will turn out like them?"💔😭

I don't think someone who hasn't graduated from High school deserves to be kicked out of the house with no way of supporting himself. (That's not to say I don't think he should have been in trouble.)

Really shows who the greater twin is. Sure, Stanley was a dick to break Ford's science thing, but he did it because he wanted nothing but for his brother to stay by his side. He wanted nothing but for his family to stick together. And it cost him, I suppose. But Ford just let him be. He didn't even hesitate whilst seeing his father kick his own brother out of the house. Not even a word. He only seemed to care for his studies.
After years, Ford called Stan over to Gravity Falls. And for what? Not even asking about his well-being or anything related, he called him over just to hide his book.
So after they fought and argued, Ford was sucked into his own dimension machine thing. Bur Stanley didn't just leave him like how Ford himself didn't think twice when his bro was kicked out! He spent 30 years, 30 whole fucking years, just to get his brother back. And when he succeeded, what did he get? A big punch to the face and the cold shoulder, as if it was his fault everything had been the way its been.
Stanley was miserable, he wasted 30 years just to bring him back and not even a 'thank you' or anything like that?
What was more impressive was the fact that Stanley was able to fix the machine, yea it took 30 years, but it's kinda impressive for someone who didn't even graduate high school.
Ford didn't think twice of his previous actions, his addiction to his own studies rather than his own family. Stanley on the other hand spent most of his life tryna bring him back. Who brought Bill into their dimension? Ford. But you don't see anyone else complaining... not even Stanley.
Stanley isn't smarter than Ford, academic wise. Stanley is smarter than Ford in...life experiences. He conned almost a whole state just to survive. He faked his own death just to take the identity of Ford for the time being, just so that people don't get anxious as to Ford's whereabouts. He's diligent, one could say.
He cares for his family. Which is what matters most.
We can safely say who's the greater twin now.

Nice comment. But based on the Journal, instinct took over Ford and just punched him 😂. And Stan fixed the portal over 30 years because the other Journals were hidden.
@@reven06 still though, props to Stan for being dedicated enough for 30 years building a machine that he probably didn't understand how to build at first. he was a high school dropout. pretty impressive yk.
To think, he began the Mystery Shack and it was all for his brother while also making a living, to live his brothers life. Even if he had to fake his death, that was just the most touching moment. When you think about it, it’s truly amazing how even though they were at each other’s throats and Stanley(Stan) was kicked out, he still saved his brother, now that’s a sibling bond. Honestly wish there was a season 3.

My latest discovery, 3:53 in the lower left corner is a book about physics and probably just science. That means that Stan has actually knowledge about physics and tried to learn how the portal works and how to run it without missing Journals.

Stanley loved his brother. He just wanted to be part of his family again. ;-;
I know both were acting a bit selfish, some more than the other (*cough*Ford*cough*) but both were at fault. Stanley might have blown a fuse or whatever, but Ford didn't check his machine beforehand. :P You know, back in *highschool*.
That is true. Ford didn't check the machine properly and if you think about it Stan didn't break the machine enough to cause that amount if damage. It was tiny and easily fixable. What Ford saw was not fixable. It could be possible that someone else broke it.

Actually, in the season finale (Dipper and Mabel versus the Future), Blendin Blandin possessed by Bill walks out of the forest. In one of the scenes shown by his broken suit, you can see the science fair with the broken experiment. It's totally possible that when Bill helped Blendin Blandin out of the Infinitarium, he used him to go back in time and destroy that machine _after_ Stanley accidentally tampered with it. Instead of the machine breaking _after_ it was scene, it broke down completely prior to that afternoon. Prior to Bill's aid, the future might have been entirely different with Stanley steering Stanford away from Bill.
As seen in "Time Traveler's Pig", time anomalies can be caused by people looking for time anomalies prior to them actually happening. Due to his incompetence, something else could've caused Blendin to be put in jail and Bill to aid him. That dramatically changed the future and prevented Blendin from being jailed until Dipper and Mabel intervened in said episode.

If you think about it it really is likely that someone else broke it because from what I've seen and heard in high school so far and if people really didn't like Ford and Stan of course someones going to try and break Ford's machine, there's always that one asshole. It's possible that someone that hated them both saw what Stan did and decided "let's break the entire thing!". Oh god that would be absolutely terrible if that's what happened!
