Finally a video I can share my expertise in since I was born and raised in Egypt. Only critique I have on the game is there was not enough scammers in front of the pyramid lol
Do people from your region speak the same language that your ancestors used to speak? I get that over time languages evolve so, what is it called now? for ex in my country in the ancient times sanskrit was spoken, but it is now dead (not extinct), so is your ancestor's language dead? or maybe it still is there ?
41:30 That's the queen ghost you see throughout the game that is constantly yelling. I assume that is her unmummified corpse and since she wasn't mummifed she is in eternal grieving and anger. Bear in mind that by mummifying a person in those times, they wanted to say goodbye in the most honorable way to the person so yeah since she wasn't given a proper burial she is pissed off. My assumption.
Wait didn’t the Egyptians rarely mummify women so that no weirdo could mess with their corpses? I’m sure they let the corpses rot a bit and then mummify them. 🤔
Interestingly enough as well, more people are interested in history now than before (yes including ancient Egypt) but it’s the internet that plays a big role in this, plus traveling as well and documentaries/entertainment. School plays a role overall too.
I don't even remember any horror movies or games where the mummy is terrifying. I only remember the mummies being used as a fun spooky enemy in movies, shows, and videogames, The designs of the mummy are always generic, it seems that most of the creators don't see the mummy scary because Egypt is always known as a place of adventure and treasure hunting. Speaking of Ancient Egypt: Back in 2000, I was living in Vancouver and was in the 6th grade. One of my classmates, her father was an Archeologist and about 2-3 years earlier, she had slept for 2 nights in the Karnak Temple Complex. Apparently, it is a surreal experience. Not sure if you can do that anymore today.
Amenti (the Hidden), in Egyptian mythology, was the general name of the underworld, or Hades, including the lower heaven, or Aahlu, "fields of peace," with its twenty-one gates; Kerneter, "good place;" Rusta, or purgatory; and Hell.
I love it when Hollow is casually talking while roaming around and suddenly a jumpscare occurs, then he screams like a little girl and goes silent with an annoyed expression on his face.🤣🤣
@10:15 - I noticed that the statues there have their right feet placed forward instead of their left feet. This is considered evil or a sign of weakness in Ancient Egyptian iconography because the human heart (which they believed is the center of the mind and the container of a person's soul) is located on the left side of a human's chest - so they should always be shown with left foot forward. Or is this just the game creator's mistake?
This game really delivered the feeling of horror. The details were well-crafted and carefully worked on. But what makes it even more interesting is that the creators of this game are an Iranian team who developed it with a limited budget and just two people! Their team name is "Dark Phobia," and they have a few other awesome horror games you can find and enjoy by searching for them.
I like to just watch this guy play whatever. I’ll sometimes put his videos on when I go to bed because I listen to a lot of scary Reddit stories and live alone lol. I need the background noise so the monsters don’t come out of my dark closet 😂
Anyone here played those Encarta 3D tours on PC around 2009? Those were so cool and eerie, I sat down on my PC the whole day touring the great pyramid of Giza. Now it just felt like a fever dream
I’ve never understood the “humans couldn’t build the pyramids” theory. In terms of design a pyramid is one of the most mathematically easy things to build. I think modern humans have lost touch of how much can be accomplished through sheer manpower, math and great engineering
Yeah the average human nowadays has so few skills that they cannot imagine earlier people having them (also, a lot of forced labour). You're legit the first comment I find that comments on this, how is everyone else just letting this pass??
@@hemmyhardingfela Because no one cares? The average human couldn't care less about how ancient humans were more capable. We don't have time to care, we watch video, we laugh, then go back to reality.
@@hemmyhardingfela Based on archaeological evidence discovered since the 1990s, particularly at the workers' village near the Giza pyramids, the pyramids were primarily built by skilled workers rather than slaves or forced laborers as was once commonly believed. These workers were paid craftsmen and temporary laborers who worked in rotating shifts. The builders were actually well-cared for by ancient Egyptian standards. Archaeological findings show they: Received regular wages in the form of bread, beer, and other provisions Had access to medical care, as evidenced by healed broken bones found in skeletal remains Were housed in a purpose-built village with organized streets, cooking areas, and workshops Were given honorable burials near the pyramids, suggesting their work was highly valued The laborers included both permanent workers who were skilled craftsmen and temporary workers who came from farming communities during the annual Nile flood when they couldn't work their fields. This was a form of national service that also provided them with steady employment and provisions during the agricultural off-season. The idea that slaves built the pyramids was popularized by ancient Greek historians like Herodotus and later reinforced by Hollywood depictions, but the archaeological evidence tells a different story of organized, skilled labor with significant social status. Also, on another note - these pyramids took ~20 years to build. What I mean to say is: human civilization was pretty 'advanced' in some areas even as far back as 5000 years ago. The pyramids were one of the biggest projects on earth at the time successfully executed by the ingenuity, tenacity and ambition of the Egyptians.
There is also a racist undertone. It's like why they never doubt the ability of Roman empire/Greek Empire. Romans existed the same time around Egyptian civilization but no one ever said Roman Colosseum could be built by aliens. But yeah pyramids can't be built by Egyptians. They were so dumb. How could they? There was no chance.
A fun thing is that registers of the construction of the pyramids were found, as the tombs of those who died working there. And they weren't slaves. We know how they were constructed, how the stones and materials were transported, etc etc

For example, they allude to “if you hear the whispers, don’t look back” and never revisited that for an opportunity of a climactic moment. It would’ve been cool if they gave you the option to actually look back & face the consequences or keep going and risk a jump scare. Overall the story itself just seemed a bit unfinished or incomplete. Still tho, pretty unique subject matter & the feel/atmosphere of the game is a 10/10
