Here's some more video ideas: -lore/history on stuff that isn't well-known, like Bionicle or YTPs. -origins of the genres in music, books, games, etc. -the origin of sports fandoms (especially hooliganism)
There are already documentaries and entire channels dedicated to Bionicle lore and/or history. Not that i wouldn't welcome another essay about this topic from Lextorias, but i can't say it is nott well-known, these toys saved Lego after all.
One of the first big sponsorships on TH-cam was also definitely Rhett and Link's T-shirt War 2 which was sponsored by McDonalds/Coke I think. Those guys had a bunch of huge sponsors weirdly early in TH-cam's history compared to most channels
They discussed their early days in their recent Flashback with Smosh episode. That wasn't their first sponsored video, but it was the first that blew up that much They are definitely experts on the subject, having made a lot of early ads
I think you'd create a pretty cool video on the topic of "Evolution of video game music" and on how it came to be so popular, who started to heavily invest in it, the meme culture surrounding it and why the heck recent gacha games especially go way harder with this than anyone reasonably should. In other worlds, how did we go from tetris peep peep poop to, well... Nier.
So the idea of this video is it’s basically a variety show with topic suggested by viewers? Awesome! This would be cool to see as a semi-regular series, maybe in the breaks between long in-depth videos. As for another mini-topic for another of these videos: you mentioned “isekai” is now in the Oxford English Dictionary. How about a short history/catalogue of words that have entered the English vernacular from the anime community, especially as anime has become more popular over the years?
My dude! Even when you're outta ideas, you still make some fire vids! I don't always watch a TH-camr for the topic/content of their videos, I prefer to watch for the personality and charisma they bring to the platform. So even if it's a topic that's been covered to hell and back, I wouldn't mind seeing your hot take on the subject; just as long as it's a topic you can 1000% enjoy doing! Keep doin what you're doin! So far I've been enjoying your stuff!!
Ecchi being simultaneously F tier and S tier is so true! There’s a fine line between it being the most hilarious and entertaining shit…and then there are uninteresting shows that should have just been full hentai since there wasn’t any real effort put into the plot.
It would be cool too see a video on why some videogame series take on such drastic and radical genre changes, like jak and Daxter, banjo kazooie, prince of Persia, helldivers(arguably; 1 is a top down shooter while 2 is a third person shooter, but theyre both shooters), fallout, final fantasy(in recent years at least), I mean sure some are obvious like IP changing developers or new technologies becoming available to devs allowing them to experiment, but seeing your take on this idea I think is video worthy
In the topic of early TH-cam sponsors, I watched a video about Toby Turner recently and they showed how in a lot of his early videos he would agree to do product placement in exchange for money on TH-cam. It turned out quite lucrative, since TH-cam was where he got mot of his views, even though he earned most of his direct income from another website who paid creators for getting views. It wasn’t exactly the same as modern sponsors, since it was often completely unmentioned, but he would often feature products like Coca Cola in his videos in exchange for money.
The foundational work of modern isekai is _A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court_ by Mark Twain, which predates John Carter by 75 years and is more like Japanese isekai as well since it's about a guy magically transported to a fantasy world where he knows all the tropes.
Every "I talk about *stuff*" youtuber should do a tier-list of genres like the one in this vid. Very quick to-the-point summary of the person in question's tastes.
A buddy and I were just about to start working on a video about the history of gaming controllers right when you put yours out lol, speaking of video essay ideas
That was so fun to watch! The idea initially sounded like a recipe for a disaster but some of the ideas were neat and you really made the best out of it. Especially the history of TH-cam sponsors was great. Would love a detailed deep dive into that Got a bit weary when it came to the anime genre concept because so many get these wrong but I was pleasantly surprised.

I don't know whether you might have already seen it or not, but Zombie Land Saga may be enough to nudge that Idol ranking up a bit. Seriously, it's incredible and I can't wait for the movie. Also, the announcement teaser for the movie was, itself, brilliant.

That Carl’s Jr promotion is something I didn’t know I remembered lol. The only major sponsored event I can remember earlier than that was the TH-cam Live platform event in 2008, sponsored by Flip Video and featuring numerous creators including FilmCow, Will It Blend, Smosh, and others.

Honestly if you're going to go with the idea of doing shitty youtube comment ideas then ive got a good one. Since you've already dedicated a video to the tsundere, you might as well make that a short series covering the 4 basic types of -deres (the ones everyone knows like yandere, dandere and kuudere) and just make that a 4 parter. (or an all-in-one vid)
Lex, the demographics you listed are also definitely genres and both happen to be the same word because the genre took it's name from that target demographic. But because it's confusing people usually want to be more specific in naming a subgenre like battle shonen to avoid any vagueness. But they are definitely genres onto themselves. The closest analogy off the top of my head would be drum and bass shares it's name with and comes from the instruments, but you can have a band with just those 2 instruments and not be playing music that is the drum and bass genre. So you can use the word josei to refer to either the demographic or the genre. My dog can be named Spot and spots are a thing my dog named Spot can have.
Thinking on early sponsorships always puts me in mind of those British sketch comedy channels like TomSka or Jack and Dean. Probably cause they are pretty memorable. Just thinking of 'Marmite is Terrible' but that's from 2010
It is a pity not more people have the Green brothers as their biggest inspiration, and instead talk about wanting to be the next Mr Beast or Pewdiepie.

So, while im a bit late to the video idea thing i still have a suggestion, but its not for a specific idea. just a method to find some. maybe. I'd look at your interests, hobbies, etc. and think about what questions you had when you first got into them, and see if any of those questions can turn into video ideas. example: i like computers, and one of the first things that i learned about was cores, and how CPU's are structured. So maybe a video on how we went from single to multi core processors could be cool. or maybe how programs evolved to use multiple cores rather than just one and how that affected the market.
You're really good at tracing the history behind components of media. What about the histories of specific anime and video game tropes? Or go the other way, and trace how "Journey to the West" and the like have bled into the modern media landscape.
i think i remember hearing someone say that one of the first youtube sponsorships appeared in one of the first youtube ARG's. it was called lonelygirl (and then some numbers i don't remember), and the sponsorship was undisclosed bc they were trying to make it feel real. yeah, super real, guys, she's getting chased down by a cult but still stops to offer her friend some gum while specifying the brand name lmao

Heh, when you said you messaged a bunch of TH-camrs to ask about the first big sponsorship, I immediate thought "You should ask the Green brothers!"
