+latias04 actually, this game is pretty long. To be fair, it is mostly fetch quests, but the game isn't short by any means. To put it into context, another let's player took 18 episodes averaging about 40-60 minutes in length to beat this game.
Can someone make a compilation of all the times Arin skips game instructions and then has no idea what the fuck to do? the answer is no because there are too many to find
Thulam Tran I *loved* this game as a young child. If memory serves me right, this game is actually decently good. It's a long game, it's got a surprisingly large amount of content, and the world has a lot of diversity as far as area design goes. So, yeah. I guess I did.
That moment when you've played this game when you were 7-8 years old, and understood the mechanics better than the "Grumps," so you're just screaming at them to turn around and find the unknown scents.

+Joshua Bellville People, the internet exists for a reason. "Neitz confirmed that dogs actually do see color, but many fewer colors than normal humans do. The game is one of the longest games I've ever played, you have to go on this massive quest to become a sniff master in a Pokémon style of travelling to different dojos and finding more smells. Tbh I don't think the grumps will ever complete it unless they get super dedicated
Arin Hanson: skilled enough at video games to die 4 times in the tutorial of The Dog Island before someone told him how to actually play. It's moments like these that make me love this channel.
I have this game, it takes a LONG TIME to complete, it has a very long plot. I'm still trying to complete it in my spare time just to see the ending. Do not underestimate the wild animals, they get harder to sneak around and eventually some of them you need to calmly walk past to get by without being spotted and some you have to run and keep running. Make sure to read the guides or you’ll be unable to advance the storyline until you do the things it wants you to learn and do specifically. And hold down 2 to build up a bark that will render the animals unconscious for longer. This game has a lot of things needed to be remembered.
+OfelieArt This comment was incredibly misleading. I saw this comment and expected an episode filled with Danny speaking solely in Russian. In hindsight, maybe that was my bad.
I kind of like that mid-late 2000s vibe in the early Wii library that just provokes a sense of innocence and friendship. Then we get these guys talking over it and that nice feeling practically implodes on itself.
I'm asian living in a western country and I didn't find your impersonation offensive because older asians who learnt english as a second+ language do sound like that a lot of the time lollllll. My family and their friends laugh at my dad when he speaks my asian language with a strong accent too. It goes both ways, everyone just chill. I feel that in cases like this it's only offensive when the persons intent is to offend.
Pretty sure I haven't seen anyone get upset when the Grumps mock Ross and when he had an Australian accent. Or when they mocked the New Zealand accent in Guild Grumps (I'm a New Zealander and found it hilarious). So why should a Chinese accent be any different? Why are other accents/voices fine but not Chinese? All that does is further the idea that the Chinese are different to white people from western countries and can't be treated the same. Because really, we should all be able to imitate any type of accent or voice because either, they're all okay or none are okay. You can't just have certain exceptions.
+TaintedEmpire If going by SJW "logic" its because Australians are mostly white, and of course in their mind nothing can ever be insulting to a white person ever. No such thing as racism towards whites according to them V:
+TaintedEmpire It's not a simple comparison, for one, mocking Chinese accents was a popular form of anti-Chinese comedy in late 19th century America, when tensions were high due to immigration, it was called the "Yellow Peril" like it was an infestation, and especially continued through the Cold War due to China's Communism. It's basically part of "Yellowface" minstrel tropes, which like "Blackface" was comedy made from a malicious place to demean and dehumanize the ethnicity they were imitating. It really wasn't that long ago, many Chinese Americans still have great grandparents, or grandparents who remember how awful it was back then. Not to mention also in due part to it surviving through the Cold War which only ended in 1990. That's the thing with making a "funny Chinese accent", it has a pretty painful history, with actual blood involved on top of the very nasty propaganda. Also, the Grump's imitation of a Chinese accent is pretty inaccurate as Chinese has defined L's and R sounds. It's not a problem when they do Australian and New Zealand accents, because they're having fun with a regional accent that goes no deeper than it sounding funny, it has nothing tied into with debasing their nationality, or their intelligence or worth on a wide, malicious (tangentially or otherwise, like for instance, the even the Grumps couldn't resist one of the negative tropes of Chinese accents, the greedy penny pinching opportunist merchant.) general scale. Often when people do imitations of accents from Australia or New Zealand, it's either something involving leisurely activity many foreigners attribute to them (Shrimp on the barbie, Steve Irwin) or genuine endearment and emulation of the toughness or cultural benefits of them (Cool, dangerous wild life, Steve Irwin).
***** In fairness, mocking the Australian accent is often done when someone wants to mock their intelligence. Claiming things like they speak that way due to being illiterate or because of criminal background due to a lot of British prisoners being sent to Australia and later settling. This is also where a lot of the ideas of Australians being very tough comes from because of the idea of them as hardened criminals or their family being as such. But again, people don't think of this too much since they're usually white.
Cal DW Regional factors play a role in it too, it's much more of a relevant stigma here (the Asian mockery) than most if not all other parts of the world. Like in Japan, there's absolutely no ethical context for Blackface, it's just a curiosity to the Japanese to such a degree that there are products that use minstrel characters as mascots. On top of that, there's the population of the said ethnicity or nationality of the local that would also affect the "soreness" of the subject. Genuine disdain for Australians was probably gone by probably the early or mid 20th century, with the disdain being more relevant from the Britains that put them there. For America, its exposure to Australia is largely due to pop culture, educational programming, and tourism. Attitudes from the subject are also important, at least from what I can see, Australians don't seem to be offended by the Australianisms foreigners like to play out. There's just too many factors to compare the acceptability of one's cultural tropes to another to be remotely comparable It hardly ever works out to be an argument of double standards or something.
***** Don't get me wrong, I understand comparing any kind of racial, regional or whatever other form of stereotype to one another is not something that can be done, nor should it be done since they're all so vastly different. It's the principal that bothers me, it doesn't matter if one feels that a certain thing is more racist or stereotypical compared to another thing, one shouldn't just cherry pick these things in the first place and instead should treat any form of prejudice or stereotyping equally, i.e don't do it at all. Whether it's race, gender, age, faith or whatever people shouldn't just say it's "okay" for some prejudices to exist but not others. Things like people claiming sexism only works towards women or how racism only effects non whites. Being prejudice is still being prejudice no matter who it's directed to. If anything singling out one gender or one race in particular simply creates further barriers and segregation through such prejudice and stereotypes. Why do people jump to defend Asians on their behalf whether they are offended or not but don't do the same for other races? If someone is offended as an individual then let them speak, do not speak on their behalf. If they are not offended, one also does not have the right to try and defend them on their behalf when they have nothing to do with that person. Likewise, if someone else is offended but you don't personally feel they should be offended then you have no right to start saying what they feel is of lesser importance. If people want equality they need to actually treat everyone as equals, not just who they consider personally to be deserving of it. I see it happen far too often when some individuals are trivialised because of their race, gender, country of origin or religious standing just because other people, who do not represent that individual, deem on that persons behalf that they shouldn't be upset or question prejudice. At the same time, other people who may not be offended end up having other people, again not representing them at all, now speaking for them without their consent. That's the issue I have with it, not so much there being any double standard with regards to the stereotypes or prejudices itself, but by those who pick and choose how and who is "deserving" of protection or support. I hope what I'm trying to explain at least makes some sense with my odd wording.
From reading these comments, apparently the Asian accent is the only accent in the world that is racist. Russian, Spanish, French.... none of those are, but only the Asian. Not trying to stir up hate, I´m just pointing out that the Grumps have been using all kinds of accents in their show and nobody ever said anything, but when it´s the Asian one... And Arin did the voice for Doc (Punch-Out) in a stereotypical manner and I don´t think anybody said anything about it.
+bm001 +Connor Flynn Because stereotypical Chinese accents are associated with ignorant, angry immigrants who should be mocked and ridiculed for not speaking proper English. Other (usually European) accents have a more positive trait to them. British accents are smart and sexy, Russian\German accents are powerful and threatening. French accents are exotic and seductive, etc. These accents are all used humorously many times, but the context from which we take the humor from is important. That's why these days you won't see anyone donning black-face and doing their Jim Crow schtik (I hope...) Because what made this funny in the
+bm001 It's okay because everyone hates Nazis. And not all Germans are Nazis. So no, hating Germans is not ok. Another case is using the accent to convey typical German strictness and stuffiness, which is more of a national stereotype than a racial one, and a not very hurtful one at that (btw, feel free to use all of your Canadian insults at me, it's aight.) As for Dan's voice being Mexican... Really??? I thought it was a poor French accent because of the man's name? Even then, I barely know what accent he was going for... Maybe it's just "the ramblings of an insane old man who lost one of his balls and his son" accent. As for the Punch-Out playthrough... Haven't seen it, so I'll leave it at that. And yes, the Chinese\Japanese accent is used to convey respect and wisdom, but that portrayal is much more subdued and respectful. I was more referring to obnoxious caricatures (which I will admit, has died down in the mainstream nowadays), which you don't see that often for the European accents, and when you do, it's not drawing from an especially harmful source. And if it is harmful, it's seen as ridiculous propaganda against a nation. Or not funny. I'm not really wagging any fingers here, just pointing stuff out. I really don't want to start shit (Have end-term homework due, ain't nobody got time for dat.) But yeah, no matter what we try to do, we'll never be fully respectful in portraying any specific group... Even our own.
+Kirkeyressa 'Threatening' is a flattering way? Because associating all of Russia with the Soviet Union and Germany with the Nazis is flattering? Riiiiiiiiiiight.
+bm001 Really? I don't actually see a lot of German accent imitations that invoke the Nazi trappings, and more done in imitation of either the sketch from SNL, or that trope of the fun, high living German that's into Autobahn and partying. Typically, the Nazi accent is invoked to directly make fun of Nazis, not Germans in general anyway. I think it's more offensive to do a Chinese accent not only for the reasons Kirkeyressa explained, but also because it's deeply tied into the violent anti-Chinese sentiment in the late 19th century through to the late 20th century and also because of how very under represented Asian people are in entertainment that, unless if it's martial arts or something, Hollywood would rather resort to Yellowface as with Breakfast At Tiffany's, or basically just write them out all together, like that movie with the college math students who used their skills to cheat at blackjack at a major casino. It just invokes an unfortunate history that has used those fake accents to demean and dehumanize Asian people, just as Blackface was employed to demean and dehumanize Black people.
I’m binging all of these at once so looking at the dates I’m glad I’m so late, I don’t think I could have lasted over a year without this phenomenal gameplay
Gotta love Arin blasting through tutorials to "save time" only to have no idea what to do next and waste 400x more time than had he just read the instructions that were clearly spelled out to him by the baby game.
FINALLY! God. I've been waiting for this return for a whole year. This is literally the only thing I watch game grumps for.. The Dog Island play throughs.
There are great things about both Jon and Dan. Honestly can't choose between them, but I do wish Jon would come back sometimes to do some games or a cameo. Wish we could have both worlds sometimes other than just the Jontron special :/
+Ethan Douglass I kind of like Dan a little more than Jon. Jon and Arin had their best moments, but I think Dan and Arin complement each other more.It doesn't mean I don't like Jon; I like him in my own way and I do watch his channel. I don't know; maybe I'm a little biased on this, but yeah, I am 100% certain that you are not the only one x)
It's been a year man... They died many times within the 1st 6 mins....that alone should tell you they have completely forgotten any and all mechanics of this game...
Fabian Reyes They found the first grapefruit by following the question mark. The cabbage scent would also have been a question mark, but Arin kept avoiding it :P
It’s astounding how, despite playing video games for a living, Dan and Erin have *no idea* how to play video games. They’re like that reporter who couldn’t make it past the Cuphead tutorial
+Have you finished those errands yet? You people are never happy. Danny and Arin could come to your and personally play a game with you, and you would still complain that it wasn't INSERT NAME OF GAME HERE.
+Dylan Wilson Really? You've got to expect some lash everytime the grumps stop playing a game out of fucking nowhere. Not even a small hint or something, they just suddenly stop playing it.
Welcome to what Game Grumps has always done. I know people want them to finish games, but they aren't The Conpletionist. Plus they seem to mix up the games for a variety reasons. Either they might get bored with a game, want to improve their ability to play it, maybe think we are bored, or doing a month of old games people have been wanting to come back.
Looking in the comment section, everyone keeps asking for other completions, other games, even though the Grumps have actually answered us and gave us Dog Island. Cmon, be a little grateful guys :
All these Politically Correct people screaming about the Chinese voice, while I'm sitting over here, an Asian who was bullied my whole life for being Asian, laughing my ass off.
an white person jokes about a asian person, another white person gets angry for offensive joke, an asian person laughs hes ass off to the "offensive joke" Human logic at it's finest!
+Gamelord000 The idea of Racism has really been screwed with over the years. Racism by definition means believing one race is better then another. To PC people it means so much as talking about another race in anything but a victim role or glory role. There so stuck on the idea that self image and self confidence that they scream when anything even rometly pariodful is put into view . People need to lighten up and realize the world is alot funnier and stupider then they'd like to believe. People need to laugh, at others, at themselves, at sadness, at the good, the bad, the ugly. That's how the world works and you can say that's bad, that were capitalizing on the worst things in life. But tell me would you really want to live life guarding against the everything. I'd rather be in a world where we can laugh at EVERYTHING then a world that we can't laugh at ANYTHING.
+Gamelord000 Then you leave them. Let them rot in the prison they created for themselves. The last person I knew in real life who was all in the PC biz, I kicked them out of my life and said, "You're a bad person, and you know it. That's why you try to defend people who don't want your help, so much, because you have to prove your worth to the world, prove to yourself that you have some reason to be here... I honestly pity you, because everyday you have to get up in the morning and live with the fact that you are you. And you know deep down, no matter how many opinions you change or people you scrutinize, you'll never be happy."
I think it's an excellent point how Arin says that he's not racist for doing the voice for that character when the character is literally an Asian stereotype.
As someone who has played a game extremely similar, Dogz, I am sitting down watching and laughing at the fact that you two do not know that you need to stun your enemy by sneaking up on them.
I don't know how it happened but I watch this whenever I'm hurt and trying to sleep. Last time it was the flu, this game has gotten me through a migraines, a sprained ankle and a bruised rib. Today it will help me get through some bad period cramps. X'D
It's actually kind of worse when you acknowledge that it's racist and then do it anyway. It's one thing when you don't know any better, it's another entirely when you know better and choose to be shitty anyway.
It's not racist. People misuse that term all the time. It's stereotypical of the races, but it's not racist, because that would mean they hated other races.

MidnaSaysMEOW ironically, mostly white people get upset about "racist" Chinese accents.
I absolutely LOVE that upbeat acoustic beat in the meadow!
+TaintedEmpire
It's not a simple comparison, for one, mocking Chinese accents was a popular form of anti-Chinese comedy in late 19th century America, when tensions were high due to immigration, it was called the "Yellow Peril" like it was an infestation, and especially continued through the Cold War due to China's Communism.
Cal DW
Regional factors play a role in it too, it's much more of a relevant stigma here (the Asian mockery) than most if not all other parts of the world.
My first thought as well, tbh. Probably because the Asian accent is so extreme? But even so, what makes one accent racist and another not?
Another case is using the accent to convey typical German strictness and stuffiness, which is more of a national stereotype than a racial one, and a not very hurtful one at that (btw, feel free to use all of your Canadian insults at me, it's aight.)
As for Dan's voice being Mexican...
+bm001
Really?
This game is just so much nostalgia for me, and they've only barely started it, keen for full series
I told you guys.
I TOLD YOU.
+Harry Book I really didn't think it was coming, I really thought we'd have Jingle Grumps before this just OH MY BRIAN.
Who put all this jizz in my pants?
Are you a time traveller or something?
Are you a time traveller or something?
+Harry Book now we just need to wait for the Christmas special intros
OMFG DOG ISLAND
SO EXITED FOR THIS HOLY SHIT TOO MANY DOGS I CAN'T TAKE IT
You are carrying too many dogs.
The dog absorbed the legendary artifact.
Ummmm it's THE Dog island! remember? ;)
I’m binging all of these at once so looking at the dates I’m glad I’m so late, I don’t think I could have lasted over a year without this phenomenal gameplay
You guys have great dog voices LOL
+DavidParody
FUCK MAN GG too
Gotta love Arin blasting through tutorials to "save time" only to have no idea what to do next and waste 400x more time than had he just read the instructions that were clearly spelled out to him by the baby game.
YES! DOG ISLAND 3!
"Oh memo, let's check that out"
Yes, finally...
*Memo opens*
Go to tips.
"Diary"
Dammit Arin!
At least he still managed to figure it out, somehow.
Bringing back Endless Ocean AND Dog Island?
Man, Game Grumps are spoiling us.
FINALLY! God. I've been waiting for this return for a whole year. This is literally the only thing I watch game grumps for.. The Dog Island play throughs.
IM SCREAMING WITH JOY GUYS YOU FINALLY WENT BACK OMG
YOU HAVE TO GO BEHIND THE ANIMALS (snakes, bears, etc) OR WAIT TILL THEY FALL ASLEEP TO BARK AT THEM
I'm watching these again because these are still some of the funniest videos I remember. I wish they'd play more of it lmao
IM ACTUALLY CRYING OF LAUGHTER THIS IS GREAT
Am I the only one who likes Dan more than Jon on Game Grumps.
There are great things about both Jon and Dan. Honestly can't choose between them, but I do wish Jon would come back sometimes to do some games or a cameo. Wish we could have both worlds sometimes other than just the Jontron special :/
+Ethan Douglass No...why would you think that you were alone in any way, shape, or form, dude?
+Ethan Douglass I kind of like Dan a little more than Jon. Jon and Arin had their best moments, but I think Dan and Arin complement each other more.It doesn't mean I don't like Jon; I like him in my own way and I do watch his channel. I don't know; maybe I'm a little biased on this, but yeah, I am 100% certain that you are not the only one x)
+Aline G I 100% agree with you Jon's channel is really funny, but I think Dan is funnier in Game Grumps
You guys made me cry this game was my sisters childhood and I would always watch her playing it.
All Arin needed to do was find a Grapefruit scent and then a cabbage scent. I know talking and playing games is hard but...come on.
Don't you fucking dare try to insult them you Dogcist.
Dog Island is some fucking next level shit.
+KaneZenon Man, I can't believe they announced Dog Island for Evo next year.
It's been a year man... They died many times within the 1st 6 mins....that alone should tell you they have completely forgotten any and all mechanics of this game...
+Jet Kusanagi to be fair tho, he was searching around a lot with no luck on the cabbage scent
Erin
By the way; to whom it may concern... in a Chinese accent, you don't switch the R's and L's. That's Japanese, not Chinese.
Finally someone said it
yEs MY GOD
He was doing a stereotypical Asian accent, so it's all good.
I love Dog Island Grumps as anyone
BUT WHERE THE FUCK IS MY LINK BETWEEN WORLDS
+Have you finished those errands yet? it's done
over
+Have you finished those errands yet? You people are never happy. Danny and Arin could come to your and personally play a game with you, and you would still complain that it wasn't INSERT NAME OF GAME HERE.
ow
i actually thought it had a final
my fault
+Dylan Wilson Really? You've got to expect some lash everytime the grumps stop playing a game out of fucking nowhere. Not even a small hint or something, they just suddenly stop playing it.
Welcome to what Game Grumps has always done. I know people want them to finish games, but they aren't The Conpletionist. Plus they seem to mix up the games for a variety reasons. Either they might get bored with a game, want to improve their ability to play it, maybe think we are bored, or doing a month of old games people have been wanting to come back.
"this game is stupid"
>runs around in circles searching for a flower after being told it smells like a mixture between cabbage and grapefruit
BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR THIS SERIES TO KICK UP AGAIN UGH YES
I wish Arin would read instead of just skipping over everything 😂
you know what's funny dogs aren't color blind but can only see blue and YELLOW
But that means the red flowers might look yellow so they'd still get confused.
That's something I love about you guys. You don't really care about offending us. You're just being yourselves. Keep being you! I love it :-)
Looking in the comment section, everyone keeps asking for other completions, other games, even though the Grumps have actually answered us and gave us Dog Island. Cmon, be a little grateful guys :
If tithinian is gonna animate this i hope he animates the dog running into the wall
So happy to see them playing this again! Real hidden gem of a game. I can't wait to see their reactions to some of the weirder parts
(Arin Logic) Look at list = "Oh, find a yellow flower... gotchya." Right after = "So I guess we DO have to find a cabbage."
YESSSSS...
I've been waiting a trillion years in my own decaying dimension for this opportunity!!!!
This is truly a beautiful period for grumps
Why did I get really excited about 2 grown men playing a game about dogs marketed towards children?
All these Politically Correct people screaming about the Chinese voice, while I'm sitting over here, an Asian who was bullied my whole life for being Asian, laughing my ass off.
an white person jokes about a asian person,
another white person gets angry for offensive joke,
an asian person laughs hes ass off to the "offensive joke"
Human logic at it's finest!
+Christopher Smith AMEN TO THIS. Folks are waaaay too sensitive nowadays.
People need to take it easy and laugh more.
*****
Ahhh. Yeah, that's what I meant.
Thank you for clarifying.
And no, you aren't being hard on me! You were just correcting me.
I can't quite express how happy this makes me.
Oh shit son, Tanx is back. Everyone happy now?
I think it's an excellent point how Arin says that he's not racist for doing the voice for that character when the character is literally an Asian stereotype.
while you're searching for the yellow flower, the Anc is just dancing around in your head lol
the first like half of this video i was too busy yelling "read the freaking directions!" to actually pay attention to what was going on
edit: i spent the entire video yelling that
+TheSexypurplepanda
Okay? You feel good about yourself?
This is commentary not gameplay.
yes
tHE NOTIFICATION CAME UP ON MY IPAD AND I ACTUALLY CHEERED
Same here
BRING 👏🏻 THIS 👏🏻 BACK 👏🏻 2020
*"a yellow flower"*
FLOWEEEEEEEYYYYYYY!
GoodVsEvil1314
Didn't see that coming
As someone who has played a game extremely similar, Dogz, I am sitting down watching and laughing at the fact that you two do not know that you need to stun your enemy by sneaking up on them.
I feel like we played very different versions of dogz... was it a ds game by any chance?
I don't know how it happened but I watch this whenever I'm hurt and trying to sleep. Last time it was the flu, this game has gotten me through a migraines, a sprained ankle and a bruised rib. Today it will help me get through some bad period cramps. X'D
Goodbye Jean-Eric's dead son.
Hello PRINCEF TAAAAAANX's dead brother.
HOLY SHIT IS THIS A DREAM
i laughed too hard for everytime they screamed while yi lu talked
my lungs hurt
His name's not Yi Lu! It's Yi Ru :p
You think he has a fighting-master brother named Ri Yu?
+Reb-Vodka I see what you did there.
It's actually kind of worse when you acknowledge that it's racist and then do it anyway. It's one thing when you don't know any better, it's another entirely when you know better and choose to be shitty anyway.
Oh just calm the fuck down
Lol it's a joke
It's not racist. People misuse that term all the time. It's stereotypical of the races, but it's not racist, because that would mean they hated other races.
he's not doing it to be racist. If I remember. correctly, racism is discrimination based on racial prejudice. Arin was just trying to be funny.
+Curtis Langlitz my punctuation could have been better.
it was so funny watching this on a playlist and seeing it go from 2014 to 2015
2:50 I just realized this game uses a heart system like zelda.
11:28 That's not true is it?
