Kensington Olympia in 1986

- A combined rail and tube station in Kensington, on the edge of Central London which derives its name from the adjacent Olympia exhibition centre. Long gone now are the days of the Motorail terminal which is now a car park. Back in 1986 an interesting mix of traffic was to be seen including, as shown here, Southern Region's class 33 and 73 locomotives amidst other through passenger and freight traffic which used the line as a gateway to the south of England and ultimately, the south coast.

Some lovely shots here. I lived in the area at the time and remember when it was mainly freight trains and the occasional passenger service to Clapham Junction (I think - before they realised the West London Line could actually be made useful!).
When filmed, the Class 33 with Yeoman box wagons would go round at North Pole Jn & across the GWR line from Paddington to go to Aston Yard. When they built North Pole Depot for the Eurostars, now in 2023, it would need 2 x 33's to get up to Mitre Bridge.
Ah yes the good days of the 1745 Dover Western Docks Manchester Piccadilly service and friends, superb film/memories again thank you 😁
