Your cover technique will help me get over Cover Anxiety. I've got tons of blank covers all ready for journals but I always leave the decorating of the cover until last. I love your idea of just plucking a completed cover out of a pile and VOILA! A winner vid as usual, Joie.

Beautiful! I see so many artists seemingly obsessed with the shinyness of an image taken from a magazine or book and their desperate need to remove that shine. I see that you do not feel that need. Is there ever a time that you have felt like an image was too shiny?

Hmmm, good point!! I guess sometimes I avoid using glossy book pages but they're often thicker which is great. I actually used some in my signature for these covers....I fold them and then cover them with spreads so I'm not worried then about gloss. I do love vintage pages though ... To answer your question, if an image is pretty I can live with shine. A layer of gesso can help.... 👍🥰

Ms Joie excellent ideal for a journal cover hoping to see how use them. This video was on time I received my paints from stationary pal (Starry & Pearl colors) & I’m excited to use them they are beautiful “splat” as you say love it 😊. The flower picture was so pretty these pages could also be used as a flip on a journal page without a the card stock if the book page is sturdy. Thanks for sharing as always. 💝🎉

Generally I make the covers when I have all the signatures ready, but since I followed along with this vlog, I found it fun to create one in advance. Now I just have to make sure my signature(s) are the right size to fit in it. THANKS.

As usual, a wonderful video and a great idea, Joie! Every time I watch you add the splats I love the look. Then I try it but I end up with more on myself and the room around me than on my page. LOL I have no idea what I'm doing wrong but I'll keep trying and one of these days I'll get it right, I suppose. Joie, beautiful video. I always enjoy it when you work with your intuitive materials: book papers, book images, glue, scraps from other projects, the way you use watercolors. I found so much inspiration in the way you use things and the honesty in which you approach your projects. I must confess I can't bring myself to tear books. I've tried and tried and, except for some exceptions, I can't do it. I am creatively "stuck" at the moment: tired of using printables, not able to tear books, not able to draw and paint to do my own creations (not yet, at least, I will get there at some point). Luckily enough I got a supplier in New York who sells decoupaged books that are already falling apart at an excellent price. I have pounds and pounds of those so they would be ideal for this type of project. It's a way of preserving them since they are all damaged as books, I feel. I am into vintage stickers at the moment, so I guess I will combine those with this....I don't know but this project sounds like it could shake my creative apathy. Have you thought of using these to create those pocket folders you used to create, the triple flip flop where you glued the 4 flip flop envelopes in the middle of it as well? I think they would look wonderful and you can give us a video of them.

Love these covers. Creating covers are the hardest for me. I have a couple art books and they are great for covers but spent too much money for them to cut up. Will find something else... thanks for the inspiration.

Really like these cover pages, I seem to struggle with my covers, great ideas and inspiration. I'm gonna make one or two. I'm new to JJ so need lots of ideas. I've just made my 2nd journal nd sewn in my pages, turned out OK, not perfect but it works for me. I haven't got all the fancy equipment to punch holes, etc. So just used what I had to hand, sewing and thick needles, no crocodile punch to hand, lol. I love that you can hide written journalling in pockets and envelopes. TFS. Loving the January collab, watching a few here on You Tube.
Sounds like you're doing great... if you have literally 7 minutes I suggest you watch this video. I really like your idea of making pre made book covers and your covers are beautiful! I have since made some. Do you put them on a harder surface or do you use them as a soft book cover thanks for your responsce,
I add them to medium weight cardstock, so not super hard at all. But I think that they would work on the cover of an Altered Book too. Hope this helps Gail!! 👍🥰💜🌿

@@joiedefi OK so here is an idea...I am going to try out using one for a mixed media drop cloth. It could collect spills Ink gesso paint maybe it could be made into something after. If it all goes wrong then I will not feel bad throwing in the bin...

What kind of fountain pen is the one you use?
I tend to write with my Rose Gold Lamy fountain pen; I bought it online from Cult Pens, along with some.deep black ink ... Hope this helps!!💜😁👍

I use bottle ink; I bought a converter so I don't need to use cartridges. 👍💜
