    One of my favourite games. By the way you can't build different colored tower pieces on top of eachother. if somebody started building their tower in a city, it's theirs. nobody else can build there.

    Thomas McNaughton - Right with you!
    A medium-weight pick up and deliver game, with programmed movement, gorgeous (imho) art and quality production.
    Good rules, great components. Can niggle a bit if you can’t appreciate the farce of not acting when programmed moves collide, but mostly good fun and dependably plays in an hour or two.
    Still a tenner (in the UK) at the time of writing. At that price I most certainly recommend it.

    I've only played once and did horribly (eliminated on gold as the first victory-elimination criteria because I invested in the other 2 criteria too much) but had a blast. I'm hoping to play again this Wednesday. But I wanted to especially mention one thing, which was a key prominent part of our game play that you completely overlooked as a possibility and made it very fun for us, --> diplomacy and negotiation. Talking with other players while you're programming what you plan to do (hope to do) and see if the other player(s) would be willing to do something different or help plan along with you ("Hey, I'm willing to take orange guy here if you go recruit here first and then come here afterwards. What do you think?" "No, I need that orange guy too!" "Shoot, if I take the green guy instead will you not kill this monster so I can kill it next turn, assuming Sharron doesn't come from all the way over there to kill it, that is?"). So much fun...AND good negotiations can avoid having that wasted turn emptiness feeling which Paul described...a double win (fun player interaction and strategic performance improvement).

  • @andy4an

    yeah, i guess the programming mechanic is so much better in roborally, because there is a TON of interaction between the robots.
    you get to shoot them, you get to push them, you struggle to get the slowest or fastest program...
    this seems dry comparatively.
    Also, it sounds really annoying to get somewhere one slot too late, whereas in roborally, that's fine because you made a lot of progress, even if someone else made BETTER progress.

  • @WesMontrose
    @WesMontrose 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm pretty against the mechanic of planning out your turn without knowing how other people will act. It works in some situations, like X-Wing Minatures Game, but only there because it's not a major setback if you guess wrong. This feels like a game where you spend more time guessing wrong than right and I could see myself feeling pretty resentful toward it before very long.

    • @wesleygravvat5366
      @wesleygravvat5366 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While there are certainly screw ups and they can be frustrating more often than not you get pretty close to what you want. I've only played once before and on one of my turns I completely screwed over another character. Did the exact same set of moves he wanted to do before he could do it. He basically wasted a turn, but he still won the game in the end. So frustrating, sure, but not so much of an inconvenience as to totally screw your chances of winning.

    • @WesMontrose
      @WesMontrose 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My biggest concern with a game is "is losing barable"? It seems to me like this is the kind of game where a stream of missteps can be really grating, leaving me in a terrible mood and my the other people playing feeling really uncomfortable. That probably says more about me than the game, but I do try to play games that everyone enjoys the whole time.

    • @wesleygravvat5366
      @wesleygravvat5366 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Understandable. We didn't experience a stream of missteps at all. It was just 1 turn or a couple parts of a turn would get screwed up. After that you were usually in a position to be okay again. If memory serves it was also a case of everyone gets screwed over or up at least once in the game. And while it sucks to be the one getting screwed over, there is nothing quite like screwing over a competitor. All told I enjoyed the game a good deal and want to play more, but apparently its not for everyone.

    • @rhelyk7893
      @rhelyk7893 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I only played this game once and that was very much my experience. I did not enjoy it at all, I kept programming turns where other players completely screwed me over, including one turn that entirely depended on a player next to me doing what was obviously the absolute best thing for them to do...and they didn't do it because they misunderstood something. And then at the very end all the points are based on you not being last in a subject, in order, but what they didn't mention is that it knocks you completely out of the winnings even if you're first in every other aspect. That was my case, one player ignored one aspect of the game and was knocked outknocked out in round 1 of scoring (towers or something), then he was no longer in the runnings so suddenly I was last in gold and got knocked out despite having the most bard points and the victory actually went to the guy that had just been randomly spinning his dials because he didn't really know what was going on and checked out of the game halfway through, but he was never last on any of the scoring after other players who WERE trying to play got disqualified. Left the nastiest taste in my mouth and I've never played it again, doubt I ever will

    Reruns! I love `em! Played the game just last night with a 5-player count. Everyone seemed to have a great time. I certainly understand the complaint about screwing up your programming either due to your own mistake or other player interaction. It happens to everyone at least once in the game! I think it is just as funny in this game as it is in RoboRally. It all depends on who you're playing with and how they react! The game probably isn't in my top 10, but I still love it. I love the scoring mechanic of "just not the worst"!

    Having said that it's now available for just a TENNER in a certain national retail outlet, so I guess it has been a failure - maybe chiefly because you need 4-5 to play, or could it poss. be because of this clip? Anyway, I like it rather a lot.

    man, i really wish the lovely art and creature designs in this weren't so let down by the mediocre at best font choices and... whatever the board game equivalent of UI design is?? like i love all those chonky dinosaurs and the weird spindly dragon and turtle and buff screaming pirate parrot, but when you look at the box the main thing you see is this ugly tacky mishmashed logo, the board and components are covered with dull impact-font numbers and dotted lines outlined with an obscene amount of yellow haze that makes it hard to even notice the lovingly-crafted environments behind them... it's kind of a shame!

    The party was Legolas, The Pope and Copperfield. They found 3 orcs in a forest, and Legolas went like 'pew pew pew' sniping all of them.
    "What if their intentions were good?" asked the Pope. "Can't we just make peace?" but Legolas was at his cellphone with Gimli: "ah-a! 12.345 dead orcs now, and you? WHAT? 12.372??? How??"
    "Uhm, David, and what do you think about this?" asked the Pope.
