Always love your videos and advice, Donn. But man I’ve gotta send you a 9v battery for that smoke detector! 🤣 Have a great weekend.

Just stumbled upon your channel and subscribed. I'm getting back into modeling after a 35 year break. Things have really changed and I think your channel is a good place to do some catching up.

Great video and tips on using and storing tape. I always store my tape in a covered container to keep any dust, hair or anything else from sticking to the sides of it. Have a great weekend old man. Terry

Love watching your videos and always look forward to Fridays, but if I may, I'd like to share a tip. Never lay a roll of masking tape on it's side on your bench. It will instantly pick up any dirt , dust and bits of plastic. Again, thank you for what you do.

Some great info here. Tamiya tape is great stuff. I do use 3m blue tape for DELICATE surfaces, for large areas, always stick it to a sheet of plastic, I use the cheap flexible cutting boards, and trim the edge to get a sharp edge, or to cut out camo patterns. Bare Metal foil is great for masking, I use it for model aircraft canopies, any adhesive residue can be removed with Goo-Gone, do NOT use Goof-Off or Oops, they are petroleum based and will ruin your life, Goo-Gone is citrus based, and I have never (knock on wood) had it damage the plastic, or paint.

Tamiya tape FTW!!! Thank you for this one and hopefully people will listen. Stop using blue painters tape people!! It's for interior house painting. Never cheap out on modeling essentials, because you truly do get what you pay for.

I love your videos. I've been a life-long model builder, (let's see... built my first AMT 57 Chevy with my dad sometime around '86 or '87, so there ya go) and every video you make I see something I either never saw before or didn't know. And I know a lot of guys don't like your style, but you're my kind of guy. Straight no chaser, no BS...
I can't say I do everything you suggest, but part of that is my hobby time is limited, and sometimes sh!t just needs to get done, you know? Lol.

I like using the metal foil out of a box pack of cigarettes for seatbelts. It has a texture that looks just like real seatbelts. It can be painted whatever color you need. Plus it holds its shape.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for the bringing up painting on the sprue. Guys swear by it and I have never had any idea why. The point you make is exactly why it seems stupid to paint on the sprue.

Tamiya tape is Washi tape. You can also buy washi tape cheap as hell on Amazon too. Get like 10 rolls of 1/2" tape for 5 bucks. So no excuses to use what works the best for that kind of money guys

  • @charlie9ine

Old school design studio trick when using masking tape on sensitive areas... take a bit of work tack off by laying it across your shirt or pants first. That being said, if there is a better solution... use it. If you want to do a good job, use the best tools.

Now I've got a real tough question for you... what do you do about a spouse who hates the hobby, and just thinks it's a stupid waste of time and money, even when you're an award- winning modeler? I bought a 9.99 photo etch kit and got my ass chewed over it the other day. "You've got enough of that junk you don't need anymore!"

    • @ScaleModelTechniques

This is where the convenient hearing clause kicks in …. You only hear what you want to hear , right ? 😎. I asked my ex years back , “ Would you rather have me chasing skirt , falling off barstools , gambling the mortgage payment away , or working on models ? “ Take your pick ! “

And I can tell you do not know spelling. Seriously move on. Go start your own channel. I have seen Don help thousands of people master painting and win more medals than you have words in vocabulary. What is your point other than bitching that you are not getting attention. Mommy take your binky?
