Stoick is canonically the sixth generation of vikings in Berk alone, I believe, according to some of the third movie's lines. Hiccup, Astrid and them are the seventh (or potentially it's one more than that for both? Not entirely sure). Anyways, viking culture might claim dragons to be hostile beasts - as most wild animals can be when threatened - before Berk, but they always had it the worse, and also were the only ones remaining against the entire region's dragons, so they were both the only source of non-wild food (y'know, herds of sheep, pre-caught fish, and so forth) and the only major threat from the dragons' perspectives.

One thing I find adorable. Is at the end, when toothless is so jittery and excited when hiccup wakes up, is because toothless can't fly without hiccup. He wants to go flying. You can almost hear toothless in your head. "yaaaayyyy Daddy's awake! Can we go flying?? huh? Huh? Can we? Can we?? Pleeeeeaaasseee?"

Dunno if you notice this, but you know how both have them have injured left sides? Earlier, Gobber said something like "Trolls exist! They steal your socks. Only the left ones for some reason" a bit of foreshadowing
In Stoic defence. He grew up fighting Dragons that have been attacking his village. It was commun knowledge that the dragons were demons. Because all dragons are in fact not nice. And to make a little more salty. His wife was taken away by a dragon. So it’s pretty normal to react like that when you son befriend the killer of you wife.
There's also a TV series w/ 5 seasons + a few specials and a spin-off. The TV series gives you much more detail and character growth. All 5 seasons take place between the 1st 2 movies. They are worth the watch especially the later seasons. The characters get better visually as they grow older.
2 seasons soon after this film, the specials and 6 seasons some years before the second film. The 2s aren't really necessary for the overall plot, but the 6s are a must and fare well even as a standalone
@@RowenaNight Seasons 4 & 5 may have been made after the 2nd movie, but they took place before the 2nd in the timeline (Stoic is alive in S4 & S5). Haven't seen season 6. 17:57 "Does that mean the dragon can't fly by itself? like it needs Hiccup to be with him?" The answer to your question is Yes. The dragon can no longer fly on its own. That is why when Hiccup was knocked off in the end both Hiccup and Toothless were both falling into the fire together. After that fire everything changed. It changed because it was no longer the world that hated dragons and Hiccup. It was another world altogether. A place where both dragons and vikings can be close friends.
Personal story, because I never connected that Hiccups contraption was the reason behind Toothless loosing his tail wing I genuinely thought throughout the entire movie that Toothless wasn’t a night fury since I saw the night fury fly while Toothless couldn’t fly and that everyone was just making a big mistake. I was just a kid but that missunderstanding stayed with me for literal years.
Fun fact: In the books, Snotlout is Hiccup’s cousin and also in the books, when a baby is named something like Hiccup and not something like Bigknuckles (not exaggerating, and the parents don’t have a say in the matter) it’s not usually a good thing. I highly recommend the books to anyone, even if they are really different from the films. They start off as pretty childish even if it does have some dark stuff and ends up SUPER dark.
@@dragonsman4733 oh yeah. Did NOT see that coming. Really showed what kind of people they both were. [WARNING! SPOILERS!] If I had to choose ONE, I’d pick Humongous fighting Alvin. Or Camicazi’s first appearance. There’s too many good moments.
This trilogy is easily one of my favourite animated series. It just is a rollercoaster of emotions and I mean it when I say that. You grow to love the characters and even the dragons have amazing personalities. If you want a trilogy that amazes you with just about everything this is it.
Some Facts I know: the Terrible Terror dragon (small green dragon) that’s what toothless is in the books, small and green. The Terrible Terror got its noises made by a certain Chihuahua, Paco? (forgot the name) 2: toothless is mainly based on a black panther, axolotl (salamander) cats, dogs and few others. Deadly nadder (what Astrid rides) is based on birds. Some dragons are even based on items like weapons. If ya wanna know loads more facts, there are videos that dig deeper into those.
Not sure how many people know this but I just wanted to mention that Trent Reznor did the score for social network. This movie has more beautiful/epic classic orchestral score but the music in social network changes and adapts as the character and story progresses. Academy people will go for that every time as opposed to a straight musical score.
@@fishblades Well that's the case for this film as well. The music changes per the scene. Toothless' theme which is the otherwordly bagpipes merges with Hiccup's theme from the beginning of the film to create the flying theme. Forbidden Friendship was the entire cornerstone of the movie. And that theme comes back in Coming Back Around, along other instances as well. The romantic theme has a few other pop ups as a leitmotif for Hicstrid. And the theme you hear when the two are often in danger comes back in the third movie right at the moment where Hiccup begs the Light Fury to save Toothless. It's just elevated from the previous two movies to highlight the danger. I know that's not in THIS movie but it's something I noticed when rewatching the films I was like "why does this sound so familiar-OH MY GOD it's the danger theme" good movies will have good leitmotifs. This trilogy has iconic pieces of music that shouldn't have been overlooked. Especially given its competition.
I can also recommend the Netflix-series “Dragons: Race to the Edge”, which is more HtTYD goodness, going deeper in the characters. Chronologically it takes place between movie 1 and 2
Well for watching Race to the Edge you have to watch Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk, less intertaining than Race to the Edge, but a huge part of the new characters are introduced in Riders and Defenders.
A lots of people hate on Astrid and the others for how they treated Hiccup before he became good at dragon training but they had every right to hate him. The fans seem to forgot the fact, despite his good intentions, Hiccup did destroy the village more than a few times. He endangered them. And he was their next chief. A boy who didn’t take anything seriously, couldn’t fight, couldn’t follow direct orders and caused trouble every time he stepped outside was suppose to lead them, not only in everyday life but in a war against fucking fire breathing reptiles! And of course they started to like him when he became good at dragon training. As Hiccup said in the beginning of the movie, dragon killing was everything in there, because their lives depended on it. Dragons attacked. They were forced to but that doesn’t matter. (Mostly because the vikings didn’t know that.) They were attacking them. It’s obvious they would defend themselves. Now when Stoick disowned Hiccup. Everybody says or do things they didn’t really mean when they are angry. It was not only about Hiccup lying, but also about denying his own people. When he threw his helmet away and said he wasn’t one of them, he practically disowned himself and since he got the helmet from his mother, he disrespected her memory too. He acted for good reason, but he also betrayed his whole tribe, their traditions and history. I would also remind everyone that neither Stoick nor the other Vikings saw how Toothless and Hiccup befriended or known that the dragons were forced to attack them to get food. All they know is that the “unholy offspring of lightning and death” came out of nowhere blasted their arena and started fighting against another deadly fire breathing killing machine and that he was dangerous, so they need to protect their loved ones. In their eyes, dragons were still cruel, killing machines who had attacked them for centuries, burning their homes, wounding and killing their loved ones. To quote from the Book of Dragons: “Chokes its victim, burns its victim, turns its victim inside-out.” That’s fucking terrifying! Just as Stoick’s wife, Valka, was abducted by a dragon next to her a couple of months old baby, or as Gobber's hand and foot were bitten off and not so long ago they wanted to kill Hiccup. All they could do all their lives was to kill or die, and they had been raised to do that since they were children. Also let’s not forget about the fact that at the beginning Hiccup wanted to kill dragons. And he was also terrified of them, for good reasons. We should really stop acting like he was always “let’s save dragons, they are so innocents!” Because he wasn’t. The only reason he didn’t kill Toothless is because he couldn’t. He wanted to, he raised his dagger. But he couldn’t. He changed. He had character development. So did Astrid. And Stoick. And everybody else. (Except for Snotlout. He was on a rollercoaster throughout the movies and series. He had nice moments and I like him very much, but gods, he can be an a**) And don’t come to me with the “a parent should be proud of their child no matter what” because that’s a pile of yakdung. If your son continuously endangers the well being of you and your whole tribe and betray all the traditions you ever had, while disowning himself, while disrespecting his dead mother’s memory, while siding with those who made your and every other person’s life miserable for centuries you have every right to be angry.
"It's a pity Hiccup didn't kill it when he had the chance." "Pity? It was pity that stayed Hiccup's hand." Also, viking is a verb, not a noun. As for why animated films fill you with emotions, that's simple; you're Human.
I adore this series with all of my heart. The soundtrack, the story. The characters. And ofc the dragons. I'm subbing so I know when u react to the other two
Also his father isn't a terrible person he has a lot of responsibilities to look after and protect his tribe and its difficult for him to raise his son and that he can't believe his son was on the dragons side that he feels betrayed but in the end they change for the better so no hate for stoick
first off, WATCH THIS TRILLOGY IT IS WORTH IT. Second off, I would give the TV Shows a solid chance. I throughly enjoyed them especially Race to the Edge.
29:25 yes!! there’s actually two different tv series that’s completely about them as a team that takes place between the first and second film! the first series is like a few months-a year after the first film and the second series takes place 3 years after the first series (aka 1-2 years before the second film) and they’re both SO good!

Just a fun fact. While they are based on cats, they are also based on dogs. There was a huge a debate among the crew of if Dragons should be like cats or dogs. The answer came which ever was cuter at the time. So they ended up basing it on both cats and dogs.
Before you watch the sequel, here’s a bit of trivia you need to know: 1. Toothless had the same designer as Stitch. Give Stitch twice the tummy and wings, and you’ll see it. 2. Stoic is voiced by Gerard Butler. Also known as the Phantom of the Opera.
This series hold such a dear place in my heart, it’s genuinely so good. Also, not technically part of the movies but there’s a Netflix show called Race to the Edge which is set between movie 1 and 2. Its amazing, really let’s you follow and get attached to the characters even more outside the movies. Such a fun film! I didn't know what to think going into it but it's a really good time! Thanks for the reaction, Alyce!
Hmmm…
+Saving your home and tribe
+Defeating an evil Dragon the size of a mountain
+Ending a 300 year long war
+Being hailed as a hero by everyone you’ve ever known
+Finally getting the approval of your stubborn father
+Getting the girl
+Keeping literal flying fire breathing Dragons as pets
+Being able to ride on said Dragons backs and fly everyday
-All of that is at the cost of a leg
Hmmm…
Worth it! Double worth it!!
Toothless is like a cat.....a very big fire breathing cat.....that you want to cuddle....and fly with lol
18:46 I think this Is one of the coolest scenes I have ever seen in a movie. Like imagine riding and flying on a dragon like that.
Best part of the movie is "Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile."
Another amazing reaction! Love that you are reacting to some animated films, really enjoying them! Thank you as always Alyce!
I forgot about how cute this movie was
Earlier animation from Dreamworks is great too! Prince of Egypt, El Dorado, and Spirit are all great, I wish they’d do a traditional animation movie again. Maybe I’m just old now lmao
i miss 2d animation too :(
I just watched el dorado
“I’m not even sure why they’ve taken him” As explained less than 3 minutes ago in the movie “only a dragon can find the island”
I love the whole trilogy, but I think the second one is my favorite though so I'm super excited for you to watch it!
Dunno if you notice this, but you know how both have them have injured left sides? Earlier, Gobber said something like "Trolls exist! They steal your socks. Only the left ones for some reason" a bit of foreshadowing
Also Gobber only has a left foot.
fathers redemption was great just misunderstood. and the matching to toothless is great way to do it.
Can't wait to see your reaction to the two sequels. Emotions are gonna run rampant.
Thought it was 1 of the specials. Just looked it up and found I was wrong. Don't know it's timeline placement, but the 5 seasons do take place before the 2nd movie.
@@dragonsman4733 I understood RttE without Riders and Defenders, so not crucial, but they do add to the story.
@@dragonsman4733 Very true. I was just taking short cuts to keep my comment short. Thanks for the added clarity.
I would recommend she at least watches the holiday special "gift of the night fury" that is another serious tear jerker
Finally a reaction where the reactor appreciate the music
Lay off Stoick. Go back and look at his argument with Hiccup. He always loved Hiccup. And that huge dragon is the Dragon Queen.
Part 2 and 3 is even better so definitely EXPECT TO CRY!!
They also mention in the shows that they're cousins. It's just irrelevant to the plots of the films.
Interesting. I read the first book and it was okay, but I wasn't motivated to read any more of them. I may have to reconsider.
@@dragonsman4733 What would you say your favourite moment in the series is?
@@dragonsman4733 oh yeah. Did NOT see that coming. Really showed what kind of people they both were.
[WARNING! SPOILERS!]
If I had to choose ONE, I’d pick Humongous fighting Alvin. Or Camicazi’s first appearance. There’s too many good moments.
@@dragonsman4733 Who would you say your favourite character is?
This movie completely caught me off guard. When I first watched it I was completely blown away. This is close to being better than all Pixar movies
I love that moment when they trap tothless and she was like "noooo what the fuuuck" i swear i have the same reaction first time watching
It's all down to good writing, music and the animation that makes you feel things.
"You just gestured at all of me."
12:39
You: I love him
Me: You and the entire internet
Fuck, every single time I see and hear "forbidden friendship" I fucking burst. Toothless reminds me so of the dogs I have and had.
It is completely impossible to not love Toothless. He's just to adorable.
This trilogy is easily one of my favourite animated series. It just is a rollercoaster of emotions and I mean it when I say that. You grow to love the characters and even the dragons have amazing personalities. If you want a trilogy that amazes you with just about everything this is it.
Kit Harrington voices Eret in the second film
Son of Eret
Some Facts I know: the Terrible Terror dragon (small green dragon) that’s what toothless is in the books, small and green. The Terrible Terror got its noises made by a certain Chihuahua, Paco? (forgot the name)
2: toothless is mainly based on a black panther, axolotl (salamander) cats, dogs and few others. Deadly nadder (what Astrid rides) is based on birds. Some dragons are even based on items like weapons.
If ya wanna know loads more facts, there are videos that dig deeper into those.
The sadness part that they confirmed that tootles was the only last of his kind
One of the best movies ever made animated or not, the Dragons are so much like the cats I once had!
The score for this movie is outSTANDING. The fact that it LOST to THE SOCIAL NETWORK is a crime.
All due respect to The Social Network but WHAT
@@neb2504 yeeeeeah
I love how invested and emotional when animals are involved. It shows you you have a beautiful a caring soul.
That big dragon is a Red death and known as the Queen of the Dragon.
Possibly one of the best animations i've had the pleasure to watch
this movie ALWAYS makes me emotional. It's just such an amazing story
I don't know if you'll think his name is still cute once you learn that his full name is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third
Easily the best animated film of the modern 3d cg era. The whole trilogy is great story and jaw dropping scenery.
He had nice moments and I like him very much, but gods, he can be an a**)
And don’t come to me with the “a parent should be proud of their child no matter what” because that’s a pile of yakdung. If your son continuously endangers the well being of you and your whole tribe and betray all the traditions you ever had, while disowning himself, while disrespecting his dead mother’s memory, while siding with those who made your and every other person’s life miserable for centuries you have every right to be angry.
"It's a pity Hiccup didn't kill it when he had the chance."
"Pity? It was pity that stayed Hiccup's hand."
Also, viking is a verb, not a noun. As for why animated films fill you with emotions, that's simple; you're Human.
Also these films are AMAZING
I adore this series with all of my heart. The soundtrack, the story. The characters. And ofc the dragons.
I'm subbing so I know when u react to the other two
when the alpha was chasing toothless that’s like the vhagar and arrax scene lol
The music is AMAZING in this movie. I always loved it.
This was always one of my favorite movies. It was a huge part of growing up for me.
Also his father isn't a terrible person he has a lot of responsibilities to look after and protect his tribe and its difficult for him to raise his son and that he can't believe his son was on the dragons side that he feels betrayed but in the end they change for the better so no hate for stoick
24:28 nope, it's dragon queen "red death"
I used to be called Hiccup because of these movies. Absolutely love this franchise.
I feel like animated films often have better stories, messages, and more creativity than live action films.
YESSS I ADORE THIS TRILOGY, so glad you're watching them
This film is gold , one of my all time favs
This is my fav trilogy, so glad ur watching these
first off, WATCH THIS TRILLOGY IT IS WORTH IT. Second off, I would give the TV Shows a solid chance. I throughly enjoyed them especially Race to the Edge.
One of the best animated trilogy of all time
The way you say Dragon is adorable.
22:27 remember this, for the last movie
GRRM watching a tiny baby dwagon gets chased by a huge grandma dragon:
Hmm, interesting. Imma tweak that scene a lil bit.
well fun fact thothless was modeled after animators cat with a tape stuck to his tale
just seen yesterday the meme Tootles chased by the dragon queen similar to Vhagar chasing Arax
It's such a beautiful series and watching them as I grew up alongside Hiccup made it even more special than anything else.
16:18 correctly guessed the name! XD
29:25 yes!! there’s actually two different tv series that’s completely about them as a team that takes place between the first and second film! the first series is like a few months-a year after the first film and the second series takes place 3 years after the first series (aka 1-2 years before the second film) and they’re both SO good!
It’s funny, you’re the very first person I’ve seen so far to notice that the “grass” was actually called dragonnip, literally ANNNYY other person I’ve seen react to this movie just didn’t know or notice what it was, just called it grass😭
I watched it when I was a kid and it'd been my special interest ever since its so good!
Just a fun fact. While they are based on cats, they are also based on dogs. There was a huge a debate among the crew of if Dragons should be like cats or dogs. The answer came which ever was cuter at the time. So they ended up basing it on both cats and dogs.
My childhood 😖.
HTTYD and Kung Fu panda are the best animated trilogies ever!
I saw this movie on TV last year for Christmas. It brought me back memories of when I watched it at the cinema. I’m so happy you love this Alyce.
@alyska Fun Fact: director of the 10th episode said that the final fight with Tothless was a reference when they were planning Vhagar chasing Arrax
i remember watching it in theaters when i was like 10 and i have watched it multiple times a year every year since including the 2nd and final film
Now you have to do 2 and 3! And maybe everything in between.
Dragon is torching all the Vikings and their boats "Someone help Toothless!!"
Before you watch the sequel, here’s a bit of trivia you need to know:
1. Toothless had the same designer as Stitch. Give Stitch twice the tummy and wings, and you’ll see it.
2. Stoic is voiced by Gerard Butler. Also known as the Phantom of the Opera.
Another reaction episode! Thank you Alyska
This series hold such a dear place in my heart, it’s genuinely so good. Every movie is amazing, the score for these movies is hands down one of the best ever created, the characters are great, and they’re so much fun. Not to mention, one of my favorite aspects is with these movies you actually get to see these characters grow up in real time like we the audience did as these movies were first coming out. Also, not technically part of the movies but there’s a Netflix show called Race to the Edge which is set between movie 1 and 2. Its amazing, really let’s you follow and get attached to the characters even more outside the movies. Plus it’s pretty funny and a good watch (plus there are way more seasons then you’d think there be, I’m pretty sure it’s 6 seasons?) :)
