I’ve seen some people completely dismiss the idea of Al being Aro/Ace as well as taking signs of his manipulation as his “love” for Charlie and use it as an excuse to ship them
I hate everything about Charlie x Alastor. The weird age gap, power dynamics, and the fact that he takes more of a fatherly role in her life. I'll respect someone who likes it but it grosses me out
I imagine that Alastor could be open to a relationship. However he'd need to respect them; which makes his dating pool EXTREMELY limited. However he is absolutely best left as ace/aro.
Someone mentioned the idea of Rosie and Alastor being in an asexual version of a lavender marriage back in in their time and I LOVED it. Platonic auntie and uncle is where it’s at
Greyace here. I see Alastor as the type who would be entirely repulsed by sexual advances and romance, but would be the one to listen to everyone else's romance problems and give advice like a podcast lol
I tried to imagine this for the sake of the humor in it and my brain conjured the horrible string of words spoken in a moan “you can steamboat my Willy.” I don’t know what that means, I don’t want to know what that means, I’m disturbed and horrified and I feel that this is your fault and have chosen to curse you with it as well as retribution, thank you and have a horrible day.
Hearing the fandom talk about Alastor is the first time I see people caring about the difference between aromantic and asexual, saying that he's only ace so he can date or even saying that you can still feel "a little" romantic/sexual attraction even if you're aroace and that's just depressing.
Well, it's understandable that people who wouldn't see other sources of official information would think that he's only ace, because him being aro was never mentioned in the show. But people who do know the facts, need to learn how to keep fanon 2 steps away from cannon. Yeah, I get people like to play around with fiction, but it should be "because it's not cannon and i have my own headcannons" and not trying to justify cannon to make your dreams reality. I'm not even Aro or ace, but I'm in love with love. Yes, I love romance, but platonic love is literally just as beautiful. We need so much more platonic scenes in media. Especially between opposite genders.
@@cookiecrumblez1443 I agree with you, I think it’s okay to have your own little head cannons and fantasies but just don’t go past it being in your head. (When I say you I mean generally speaking)
im grey-aromantic. i don't really know the full info, but all ik that's confirmed is that he is ace. tbh, i expected that. i don't like much ships between him and other characters. i think the lucifer x alastor ship is pretty good, but its MY headcannon. i find it ridiculous that people only find headcannons wrong when it's a character who is ace/aro/aroace. it's still a headcannon... chill out. this whole thing is so immature. as long as you don't claim your hc to be cannon i don't think anyone should care. you shouldn't even be watching hazbin hotel unless your mature anyway.
@@rey_cel Agreed 100% and Luci x Alastor ? Top tier ship, I love it too ! 🥰 It would just be nice if people left people be instead of pushing their bs onto others. The only one who should care is the actual author and if they don't mind, then it's okay ? Come on, no need for a full out war now, it's just a god damn show anyway
Oh should I just misread the comment but honestly yeah I kind of seen people confused these sexu all these a lot and it kind of makes me uncomfortable or at least weird I mean simping or shipping yourself with a aroace person is really bad in my opinion it does defeat the purpose of The sexualityIncluding aromatic or Asexuals I actually feel bad for these people we're not having a bit of inclusivity and cartoons I wish there was like some cartoons that do have them
fr, i’m an aroace and this video is just covers all basis as an aroace person, i’m fine with the topic of sex or romance, and even find it interesting …unless it involves me. then i just get very uncomfortable, because hell no
Little late but that's exactly me. As long as it's not about me, I can talk about it because I think of it as a "joke" instead of a real feeling that someone experiences.
@tinnasell4161 To be fair, that's not true in all of the material. The prequel comic about Alastor shows him going on a rant mere minutes after seeing Vox on a TV screen (once he's out of sight) about how much he despises him. In that case it's clearly mutual enmity, and I'd still say he has more hatred for Vox than nearly anyone in Hell because of how much they rub up against each other and the fact that Vox is capable of challenging Alastor's authority without him being able to be put down like anyone else of significance he's fought. It's similar to why he hates Lucifer, although in that case it's also a matter of his OTHER berserk button (lack of acknowledgement) being pushed.
@@TheAngryXenite thing is that comic contradicts his behaviour in the show. Unless he moved on from that rivalry with Vox, the comics cannonicity is kinda put into question
I love that post but it was even funnier than this. They said something like "Alastor doesn't have the excuse of homosexuality to excuse tauntingly staring into surveillance cameras". He has something much funnier going on.
A lot of people find disinterest in romance/sex attractive in itself. It definitely reads into the whole "but my OC is different" and "special" somehow. No shade, I thrive on that shit, but it's definitely in the category of wish fulfillment.
Tumblr sexyman is a vibe, a vibe this often is a mischievous vibe, which mischievous characters arent usually out for romance. But also, Sans litteraly "befriended" Toriel and Bill is evil why would he be into romance
On the topic of Sans (And please forgive me for bringing this up, I swear I'm not one of *them*...), does he even have a dingaling to bone with?! (Again, I'm so sorry. I will turn myself in to horny jail...)
Ok I’ve never watched this show but the fucking “the what now” in that old showtuney-esque old timey voice and then it immediately cutting off is sending me
The sheer power of "No one can commit me to a relationship of any kind. I am unrelationshippable. You can never have me." is something I will now strive to match somewhere in my life.
alastor is so petty and antagonistic it almost makes you wonder if he's aroace purely to deprive everyone of his hotness, yet another means of psychologically torturing people for the fun of it.
Considering how hyper sexual and sex obsessed our society is right now, I can see why most people do not get asexuality or aromanticism. They may likely confuse it with sexual aversion or sexual revulsion.
It's like people forgot that platonic relationships exist. Asexuality isn't a real thing, it's 100% made up on social media for people to feel special about being incels.
Right now? The world has always been sex obsessed. Haven't you ever read any Greek mythologies? lol Jokes aside, sex sells, unfortunately. That's something that will never change, and companies/producers know that. So, it's hard to spread representation, even if someone wants to, when the vast majority is louder then the minority.
As a demiromantic (or kind of demiromantic, I'm still not sure. So far I know that I'm deffinitally not romantic) I'm kind of annoyed that everybody should have a partner, and when they don't then they must be weird or sad. I get why fans are shipping him, I used to do that as a child. But I also hate when people don't understand aro-ace people and how they can be happy with just friends and family. We don't have to like the same things, chill out.
I think its been confirmed that he's Aro-Ace by Viv. It is also confirmed that he doesn't enjoy the company of men because of his issues with father when he was alive. He only enojy the company of women but platonically, that's why he hugs Mimzy and Rosie and is ok with interacting with Charlie. He never touched another dude on screen (only when killing them lol), and is easilly anoyyed with men.
I think it was stated that his father was abusive, and that Alastor was a big mama's boy. But he was also a serial killer that enjoyed eating his victims, so yeah... @@galuxius1861
My ace friends are getting married soon and yet I still STILL have to explain to people all the time that just because I’m ace doesn’t mean I’m going to die alone and unhappy smh. Maybe I’ll be happy with just friends, maybe I’ll be in a queer platonic couple, maybe I’ll be in a romantic nonsexual relationship and that doesn’t mean that I’m going to be in an unfulfilling relationship!
This is why I think people struggle to understand this situation. If you are platonic you are just friends and it’s not a relationship. Platonic means friends. Romantic is understandable but to describe it as a platonic couple is factually a friendship.
@@TheMichiQuinn I agree! Language can make understanding aro/ace relationships hard for people who have never had queer platonic relationships! I wish that language evolved faster so that I had the words to describe how the love an ace person feels for their partner can be different from your cut and dry friendships among allo’s… I don’t mind ignorance, it’s not someone’s fault if they have never come across an idea before! But I get so tired of the willful ignorance! Just because you don’t understand something or don’t share a perspective doesn’t mean you can’t learn! And what’s more, you shouldn’t patronize people who experience the world differently from you no matter who you are!
@@Redheadedhypocrite then make a new word, if it's not the same as platonic don't use platonic. Making up new words is literally how language evolves, you don't just wait for it to happen
"Asexuality is a spectrum, some people experience sexual attraction!", they say about the character that is standing so close to the end of the spectrum that if they took another step, they'd fall to their death.
I'm not even close to being aro/ace, but I'd also put world domination above any romantic relationship. Maybe we should hit the white board and discuss some business plans together?
@@spruce-ui2eh OK, so, I only have a rough draft so far, but I think we definitely need to start by studying the old Indiana Jones movies and learning what NOT TO DO when aiming for world domination. Maybe throw in some episodes of Pinky and the Brain for good measure, but I'd save them for later as consulting material, when we start going into the specifics of the plan. Any thoughts on the next step?
I'd love if Rosie was ace aro and was just marrying people to eat them, though she's probably not and probably straight, it's still a funny little headcanon
Still reeling that Twitter stans actually fought Amir Talai when he made a post about Alastor being aroace because Alastor makes "gay little poses". My sibling in Christ, a pose can't be gay. It can only fall under a gay caricature. Amir said it perfectly; "You don't have to fck to be fab."
Cut to the saiki k fandom where the main character repeatedly says he does not care for romance and never wants to date anyone and romantic/sexual attraction alludes him and half the fandom is still like “it’s just a headcanon” or “well he could just be in denial” It’s really sad how so many people will come up with every excuse under the sun as to why a character isn’t aro/ace like please we barely get any rep as is at least admit you’re breaking canon 😭 (Go watch saiki k btw it’s got the most aro/ace rep I’ve ever seen in my life it’s lovely)
Ironically I ship saiki/aiura (not sexually) and your right, just scroll through any fic with saiki you get stuff like "tsundere saiki". Like no he doesn't feel that way.
yeah it really does feel like the options are 'ships' or 'no close relationships, it's just fun adventures with no genuine emotional moments' which suuuuucks. I love fun adventures! I also love heart wrenching scenes that aren't just between family or romantic partners.
I kinda hate it because I can tell the creator wasn't trying to write an asexual character but rather a robotic character. While technically he is asexual, i don't think the creator at all realized what they were doing. I think they wrote him that way because he's supposed to be weird, overly logical, and somewhat apathetic. I want to see more ace characters who are ace because they just are, not because the creator wants them to feel less human.
As an aroace, I think you put it perfectly. I have absolutely no issue with people shipping Alastor, whether sexually or romantically, when they know that he's canonically ace and their ships are fanon for their own enjoyment. What grinds my gears a little is people insisting it could really happen in the show, and that he's not TOTALLY ace, etc etc. I've seen someone say they ship him because asexuality isn't real, that one hurt.
aro, possibly ace here, I agree completely. I partake in the fanfiction just as much as the next guy, but insisting they're actually gay/ace/aro/none of the above, etc is going into delusion territory. My one rule break is for historical shows back in the days where a character being gay would get it cancelled. For example, I 100% believe William Riker is a bisexual/pansexual man in Star Trek The Next Generation. Hell even the actor considers Riker to be not straight, but the time period was terrified or actively showing disgust at characters being not straight. Maybe I'm just going against my original point with this lol
Questioning aro bisexual here. I’m attracted to both men and women but I don’t do relationships. Even though I’m not ace, the « asexuality isn’t real » part hurt as well. The amount of times I’ve been told bisexuality is just being desperate and a phase. Then aromatic is just trying to be edgy/lying/cold. I wish people would just leave us ALONE.
Daily unrelated fact: Blackberries are considered super foods, being packed with Vitamins A, B, C, E, K, potassium, and magnesium, making blackberries one of the healthiest berries to date.
6:34 also at some point he told Sir Pentious "this [piece of his jacket] is the most anyone managed to get off [him]", which is both "I'm untouchable in a fight" and "sex was never in the cards for me"
@camocamouflageSome coworkers _can_ get nosey and ask you if you have a bf/gf or kids, try to set you up with someone, etc. Maybe OP just said it in an attempt to shut that kind of thing down. You could just tell the coworker it's none of their business or generally say "I'm not interested in those things" but that can get awkward, too
@camocamouflage So you think that straight people shouldn't be talking about their partners too then. That's effectively straight people casually coming out all the time when they mention stuff like, "My wife/husband and I went out to such and such a place over the weekend" or the usual casual conversations about their kids etc. So you agree that they probably shouldn't be sharing that information in the first place as well? It is repeatedly coming out all the time to everyone else by discussing stuff like that. If it works in a way that ace people can't talk about themselves being ace, then it'll have to work the same way for everyone else. You shouldn't be casually bringing up your partner or giving anyone any kind of coding as to who you are in that regard either, right?
@camocamouflage Yeah, well the same applies to those coworkers. We don't need to know all their business but they share all their business, like their partners and other straight stuff, with no question or second thought and no one gets whiny about it. You're treating ace people doing it as a problem and that we shouldn't be sharing we're ace but why are you making it out to be a problem when ace people do it but aren't holding straight coworkers doing the same thing and sharing they're straight all the time to the exact same standard? Those coworkers mostly love sharing how straight they are all the time and if we suggest that maybe they want a doctor to look at fixing that, there'd be some complaining. It's on the ignorant coworkers to educate themselves, it's not our job to make them less ignorant.
I actually did take HRT for transgender reasons and it didn’t change my sexual or romantic orientation, it just gave me a stronger libido. I’m still very aroace, the biggest change in my orientation was going from no libido to All The Libido in a way that forced me to become a sex positive asexual and find an outlet for that before I went insane. Basically I just read and write erotica now but still with zero desire for it to come true. All this to say your coworker is an ignorant dumb@ss that doesn't know the first thing about how sexual/romantic orientations work OR how hormone therapy works. The stories of people saying that HRT changed their orientation are likely due to them not having strong or frequent enough feelings to be able to accurately judge what genders they like if any before they got on HRT, perhaps even deliberately or unintentionally ignoring those feelings until having their libido dialed up to an 11 made it impossible to ignore anymore.
Im aro/ace and I agree. I don't care if someone ships him with anyone but it bothers me when people try to justify it by trying to make him not aro/ace. Just admit that hes aro/ace but you want to ship him for fun anyway. Its ok to do that.
I agree. Aro, Ace, and Aroace are a spectrum. You can be Aroace and have relationships or not have relationships, both are perfectly valid. Ace and Aro people aren't monoliths, they're individuals and have their own experiences. I think its perfectly fine to ship him with others so long as they aren't erasing his asexuality and aromanticism, because it is completely possible. It frustrates me when people say he can't possibly ever have a relationship because he is aroace, that is so invalidating to those people who are Aroace who do date or engage in intimacy.
I would be curious to see Alastor seduce somebody to gain power over them, to use their affection, and see where the dynamic goes. Kind of a social-whim-with-benefits.
As an aroace person (I'm speaking for MYSELF, not everyone else), I don't mind shipping. It happens to every character and that's that, they're not real people. However if it comes at the cost of said shippers obscuring and invalidating aroace folks, then it's an issue for me. To me the shipping is only okay if the person doing so has a conscience that aroace people are very real and not playing up an act, weird or "defective".
same, I've basically ignored shipping fandom for everything because it's just people projecting their fetishes, nothing more, it's never about the story or how characters could work with eachother, just people that want to see two characters fuck
Yes like 🤷♀️ the fictional characters are fictional, get creative in fiction and all that, just don't be weird and/or offensive to real people... It's not that hard hehe
Yeah, I imagine it’s kind of like how characters that are effectively portrayed as being straight are shipped when they’re the same gender. I figure that similar boundaries would apply there, where it’s okay to ship but weird to get mad if anyone doesn’t ship it too. If you can’t acknowledge your personal stances on characters aren’t all canon then that’s just a bit off in general! That’s an issue I’ve seen in a lot of fandoms….
Yes!!! Even I kinda had the silly thought of "lmao crackship between Lucifer and Alastor so they just have joint custody of Charlie", but the people who go "AcTuAlLy ArOaCe PeOpLe cAn StIlL dAtE!" make my blood boil. Like yeah, but clearly that's not canon in the show. Make your crackships, I really don't care, I'll probably just avoid it, but don't try to justify it by saying it "could be canon" and just say "yeah it's not gonna happen, it's just a fun dynamic". People make up crackships all the time and the only time they try to say it could be canon is when one of the characters is canonically aro and/or ace :/
Well it is a really old trope of people hating eachother later getting feeling for eachother, it's just as old as childhood friends ending up falling in love
@@skyesthelimitro I know, I’m not hating on it lol. I actually ship it I’m just making a joke on how lots of fandoms like shipping characters that hate each other 😅
Someone on a call called me an "ace in the hole" when I told them I was aro ace. I told them there was no hole and they thought that was a sex joke. I just meant I didn't play golf 💀
“Ace in the hole” is basically the same as saying “ace up my sleeve” it has nothing to do with sex and more to do with someone having so much power they can either have or get people to do whatever they want. For the love of god look up the slang that old school characters say
@@littlelotus4572BRO ACTUALLY THANKS FOR SAYING THAT i had a few friends who watched hazbin hotel told me i was like alastor (cuz im aroace and apparently “damn evil”) and keep saying that line as a refrence i just dont understand
in all fairness, as an ace person, id feel kind of infantilized if the ace character in hazbin wasnt completely fucked up in some way. like, every other character is a horrible person, theyre in hell for a reason, and if Alastor didnt fit in with that it could play into the “innocent naive child” stereotype of asexuals.
Apparently he's a canabalistic serial killer, which would also play into an ace stereotype (lacking humanity, ect) - but I don't think it's ever mentioned and the guy is dubious at best and ultimately a good guy so, it never mattered anyways. The show is dumb but that allows us to not think about anything at all - never mind reading too deep into a character being ace. Shots fired...but also...it's chill. As a fellow ace person.
@@202cardlineI disagree in thinking him being evil is part of the "evil ace" stereotype. Part of that stereotype is the ace character being emotionless, which isn't what Alastor is at all.
I love the fact Rosie is more aware of relationships and sexualities and stuff. She's also really good at helping, Alastor trusts her somewhat and they're friends so he could totally learn from her whether he does that by watching her help Charlie or her helping him with his sexuality from the sidelines it's just a really cute dynamic
Rosie's power seemingly comes from being a charming person. She gets people to tell her everything, and is very proficient at social interactions. Someone like her is extremely valuable for a schemer like Alastor.
Holy FUCK, thank god someone said it. I'm aroace, and I think shipping characters on the ace/aro spectrum is completely fine, so long as you don't start to expect it in cannon, or tell people that they can't ship the character with anyone else. You've voiced that perfectly, and I thank you for it.
THIS! 👏 I was trying to write a comment like this, but you put it much better. As an aroace (aego) that ships a variety of characters with no regard for the Canon™ identities, the way a lot of people behave when it comes to shipping is wild to me.
Oh thank god I found the comment I was gonna leave, lmao. I'm demi/aego and grew up with "canon-non-compliant" fanfics haunting my waking hours between the fluff on Quizilla. I've never cared about what happens in AUs because by design they're not canon, they're what ifs that range from one small change in the canon story to entire new genres and worlds. The idea that a "what if" of this aroace character being nudged one way or the other across the spectrum for the sake of a good story is interesting if it's done well. It's just never going to BE CANON and the fact people are upset about that... Confuses me.
Yeah fr, fan content shouldn't ever be expected to keep canon compliant in any sort of way. That doesn't mean that we should expect canon to change to meet our ships, I thought this was obvious
As an aroace-spec hooman myself, im genuinly fine with peopl shipping aroace character for fun dynamics.. but the fandom almost always use excuses to just forget about or erase the fact the characters is aroace, which genuinely makes me SO uncomfortable.. 😅
If its as a joke Otherwise its morally gross To me its like shipping a lesbian with a man, a gay with a woman, just no The fandom is insane, platonic relationships just aren't allowed to exist
As someone who is romantically attracted to people, but ace, when it comes to canonical ace characters, if I do ship them with a character because I think the character dynamics are fun, then it's just a platonic ship. That's just how I go about it anyway.
It had been confirmed prior to the start of the series that Alastor was both Ace and Aro. So it's not a case of the writers being confused by the wording, they are deliberately writing him to be both on purpose.
If what we have so far is considered deliberate, they need to up their game. Alastor's aceness is weak shit, currently. I don't care what Medrano said five years ago or whenever or wherever, if he's ace and it's not just lip service, it *has* to get better on screen, in the show, than "ace in the hole." The bar cannot _possibly_ be that low.
fr. i didn't get "ace in the hole" until i remembered the confirmation. If someone who DOES know this shit can miss it, it was NOT strong enough@@Cobalt360Degrees
@@Cobalt360Degrees To be fair he is very similar to me in how he acts. Always watching and waiting, being helpful in ways that take little effort until it builds up, seemingly understanding how others feel while also not caring in the slightest, and his complete missing of how his actions could be construed as romantic/sexual interest. He never actually shows any interest in any character other than Charlie, Rosie, Mimzy, Husk, and Nifty. Mimzy because they knew each other in life and she likes causing trouble, Rosie because she is powerful and they are both representatives of Cannibal Town, Husk and Nifty due to their contracts, and Charlie because she could fulfil his desire of freedom. Which, by the way, is the only desire, other than watching people fail, that he mentions all season.
because people dont know it exists. A is for ally, you are just shy, you haven't found the right one, there could be something wrong in your head. We are a tiny, TINY minority that is lagging behind in representation compared to the rest of the alphabet mafia. Others need to know we exist before they can represent us sadly.
I wouldn’t say that a lot of shows have asexual side characters, or at least side characters that are never shown being interested in romance. Occasionally we get a main character like Luffy from One Piece (who is canon asexual). But asexual aromantic characters are blissfully free of relationship angst and if you’re a writer or a viewer that’s boring.
As a romantic asexual I'm so sad that we almost never get any representation. There could be so much potential in writing a character that is still romantically interested in people but not sexually in a very sexualized world. 😔 Idk on one hand im glad asexuality is becoming more well known, but at the same time it feels like a lot of people are starting to assume that asexual is really just aroace and nothing else. 😢 I used to want to be a writer, but I just don't have the patience for it. I wish I could bring that vision to light myself sometimes...
As someone who only ships for fun but loves the fact he’s ace in canon I’m glad someone has said this because I was getting tired of some levels of toxicity not being acknowledged
Same. I think the Radiodust ship bothers me so much because Angel is a very sexual character (ironically I’m Ace and he’s my favorite. XD) and has issues with abuse…and you ship him with a manipulative asexual. Like something about that bothers me. But I’m also not gonna scream about it too much.
The only reason I can think people ship radiodust is because the pilot VAs did some funny stuff of them together and because their character designs are ballin' (I mean all the character designs are, but they stand out in the pilot as being particularly good esp before Charlie and Vaggie's glow-up), which is all good and fun but I can't imagine anyone would ship them in a 'I hope this becomes canon' way
Viv has actually stated in old live streams that he is aroace, but that doesn’t really translate into the joke. She has also gone on to state he doesn’t realize that he is, and just thinks he hasn’t met the right person (which makes sense given the time period he was alive in). Also if you like Owl House, Lilith is confirmed to be AroAce
As much as it doesn’t translate into the joke, I think i’m better off in the world where Rosie doesn’t go “Oh I’m just kidding, I know you’re Asexual Aromantic.”
MYSTREET PFP SPOTTED IN THE WILD?!??!?!?! anyways: i appreciate the enthusiasm, but i think this is exactly what misty meant about death of the author. lilith's sexuality isn't in the show at all, so her aroace identity -- although lovely to be confirmed -- isn't really the perfect rep we need, y'know? dont get me wrong, i love toh and lilith, but i certainly wouldnt recommend toh on the basis of aroace representation same with alastor. even though it was confirmed by viv, it's more about what's actually IN the show that counts
As an aeroace individual that's my only thing. Like okay ship him if you want but my god we get like no representation in anything. gay/lesbian relationships are becoming more and more 'normalized' so please just let us have this.
You DO have this. Alastor will always be ace in canon unless Vivzie changes her mind which she has no reason to. But you can't expect internet strangers who frankly don't give a fuck about you not to do whatever they want with said character. Nobody cares about orientation on any side, if they think a character is hot they're just going to do what they want.
@@jack_stone Right! Hell, I'm ace myself and only a few minutes into this video and I'm so tired. No, I don't give a shit if people ship Alistar with anyone. He's a fictional character, and very hot, and shipping hurts no one (unless, I mean, when rabid fans take this to the next level and start doxing and attacking people for real, which is frankly insane but happens)
@@jack_stonei mean, i get where youre coming from, but imo it cannot feel like proper representation if everywhere i go, i see ships with the aroace character. like ofc do whatever you want with your ships, but damn does it get tiring to see a canon sexuality ignored to the extent that alastor’s is. yeah, people ignore other canon sexualities, but it feels less frequent with other characters (i dont really see many ships of angel dust with women, and theyre not popular at all. meanwhile alastor ships arent uncommon) like yes, hes canonically aromantic and asexual. but if i go look up fanfics, how many fics am i gonna find that even just hint at him being aro and/or ace and how many am i gonna find of him being in a romantic/sexual relationship with someone?
Yeah i don't care if people ship him or write fanfic's about him shipers will do shipper things. But it's just so annoying people said that viv needs to change his sexuality because they find it weird like, the aro and ace community is living of breadcrumbs and people even in the queer community try to take those breadcrumbs from us
It is so fuckin annoying and it barely counts as "having this" when shipping him aggressively is so accepted but guarantee if you put a gay character with the opposite gender people would go absolutely feral on you. It's like aces don't matter specifically.
I feel like it’s difficult to get aro/ace representation “right” because of just how diverse everyone’s experiences are on the spectrum. But I suppose that could be said for other sexualities as well. I do agree that it gets rather tiresome when fandom constantly glosses over those who are genuinely repulsed by intimacy, but it’s also nice when there’s room to interpret a character in the grey or fluctuating area. One major red flag when exploring aro/ace characters is when the romance/sex is forced onto them without consent. Any semblance of a “I can fix him” mentality when approaching the subject of asexuality can get real uncomfortable and devolve into unwanted sexual harassment. Another awful trend is depicting aro/ace characters to be “emotionless” or lacking any empathy for those around them. I don’t understand where this stereotype came from but it’s really harmful and it sucks how others can’t acknowledge platonic relationships to be just as fulfilling. Just because we lack those desires doesn’t make us “broken” or that we “haven’t found the right pairing”. The expectation that all characters are interested in romance (unless explicitly stated otherwise) can get rather exhausting, but hey that’s just how fandom works. I just find it ironic since I’ve always viewed it the opposite way. I rather love when characters are content being single lol
I couldn't agree more. I'm on the ace spectrum myself, and I wish there was more opportunity to explore compelling dynamics that didn't have to be romantic or sexual. With Alastor in particular, I like that the show clearly shows he can have friendships through Mimzy and Rosie, and I like the idea of him warming up to the people of the hotel in the sense of, "I don't really understand some of them, but I don't outright want to cause them harm like I do with most other people." Let the man have compelling relationships outside of romance!
I agree. I'm ace, but I consider myself demiromantic. I'm in a romantic relationship. Alastor seems less romantically "grey" than me, and even though I personally am in a relationship, I don't feel comfortable with the romantic "shipping" with Alastor. It's very obvious in the show that he's aroace, and it's so frustrating that people can't accept that. It makes me feel like people in our own community don't value or care about us. I've had A LOT of meaningful platonic relationships in my life, and I'm very capable of love, empathy, and connection.
@@ash-nr4us4dy1oI get that, but I don’t get why asexuality is labeled as a sexuality, or even part of the lgbtq, it has nothing to do with who your attracted to, but rather how your attracted to someone. I have no problem with it, I use the title myself, but is it really a sexuality?
Yay! You're back! About Rosie's line: With her early 1900s aesthetic, she isn't exactly someone who is up to date, and most likely learns more modern terms through interactions with more modern Sinners. In general, she seems fairly social, certainly enough to attend Overlord meetings, and give advice to her cannibals. And if romance really is her specialty, then it makes sense she would eventually find out what an asexual person is. BUT being old-timey, it also makes sense she would assume that asexual and aromantic mean the same thing when they don't. One of the artists mentioned Vox actually IS into Alastor, but that was on a stream before the Pilot was even out. Whether it's still canon remains to be seen. It appears that the two used to be friends, and Vox wanting Alastor and knowing he can't have him might've contributed to their feud. Also, yes, watch Bojack. It's awesome.
As an aroace when i realised alastor was asexual/aromantic i was super happy to be represented in some way, buuut i regretted my decisions when i saw him being shipped everywhere 😭
Think about it: Having Alastor as our Aroace representation is the best thing that could have happened! With his powers, there will be nothing left to stop us on our invation on denmark! ❤
Remember when the writers of Sherlock said asexuality was "boring" and everyone agreed because that's how little the LGBTQ+ community cares about aces? Am I surprised that in 10+ years nothing has changed? Nope.
I mean the literal fight between conforming and queer liberation is still raging on and that's battle within the community that's been there since the early days of Gay rights.
I agree, and yes Ace, and Aro, are a specrtrum but i feel like people use that excuse time and time again to sexualize or romanztice Ace/Aro Charater or even worse. PEOPLE. biggest exmaple is jaiden animations, KOOLEEN JUST SEXAULIZE EVEN NOTICE JAIDEN HAS SAID MUPLTIE TIME FOR PEOPLE NOT DO THAT, AND LIKE SHE MADE A WHOLE ASS VIDEO ON WHO SHES AROACE?! LIKE THE FUCK? But I agree the LGBTQ+ need to be more welcoming to Ace/Aro people They get heavly misrepresent, and there is so much misinfo about it, its INSANE. I genuinely feel bad because they dont have any sorta representaion and if they do it immdealy gets ruined. Aro and Ace people espesilly need love and to feel apart of the coumminty.
@@fern_aka_that_idiot9090 sometimes I wish I was not ace, I did not choose to be like this and I don't want to be now that I know even the minories dislike my type of sexuality, but how do I change it when I was born like this?
The thing about allo people saying "he COULD be greysexual/greyromantic!" is that they NEVER explore the GREY part of his orientation. They always just use that as an excuse to treat him exactly like every other allo character, and it feels like an excuse to brush his CANON ACENESS under the rug. Which especially sucks just because I can count on one hand the number of good ace representation I've seen in characters while there are a bazillion allo characters (aka LITERALLY EVERY OTHER CHARACTER IS ALLO LMAO)
IKR?? Literally I see ppl use the excuse "some asexuals can have romantic feelings too!!!" Like that doesn't mean alastor is one of those asexuals because it is clearly shown in the show????? Like okay he's fictional but it doesn't change his sexuality and how its represented in the show 😭
Asexual = A lack or no *sexual* attraction towards people (These people have little to no sex in relationships) Aromatic = A lack or no *romantic* attraction towards people (These people have little to no romantic connection in relationships) And combining the two makes AroAce people who have no interest in dating people in general
I think the closest I like/tolerate with Alastor being shipped is when it's written where he clearly has no romantic or sexual attraction, but platonically loves even if the other has romantic/sexual feelings. (And no, I don't mean that aroace people should compromise, or that many will, I mean I like it when it's written as not being a compromise). As an aroace myself (not grey on the spectrum, like no attraction at all lol) I have been in that kind of relationship where I love them platonically, so doing romantic/sexual stuff is fine with me. But, Alastor very much seems sex repulsed (or maybe just doesn't like Angel lol). I can still imagine him being affectionate, physically or verbally, even if not sexual. So those sort of one-sided ships with him are my favorite (partially me projecting onto one of the few aroace characters I know). I like him and Rosie (platonic on both sides), they seem like besties who get married for the tax benefits and they click so well.
Exactly, exactly, exactly!!!! They always SAY "aroace people can date" but then they write him super lusty and head-over-heels for whoever, and it just makes me cringe
How is it erasure if it's just the person's fan art or story and the actual canon character remains ace? You all are as bad as the mob that went after that girl for drawing a scene from the black little mermaid movie in the style of the Disney cartoon because she wanted to mess with a different aesthetic. Somehow her one little piece of fanart was deemed "erasure" as if the whole movie and black character no longer existed in canon. It's a very authoritarian and strange attitude to have in regards to art in general.
@@jamesthepatriot6213 I think you're misunderstanding my words, and I'm assuming the words of the video as well. We aren't asking people to stop making fanart and fic. What we want is for people to recognize the fact that this is an aroace character. Not try to explain it away using excuses. There's a difference between "I'm drawing this aroace character in a relationship and having sex because its fun" and "I refuse to accept this character is aroace". Which yes, PLENTY OF PEOPLE DO. Anyone is free to do as that want with fan content. All we ask is people to acknowledge that this character is meant to be aroace. There's already so little representation in media of aro and ace people. What we want in this case, as well as in reality, is for our existence to be recognized and respected. And I don't think that's a lot to ask for.
As an aroace dude, I'll take the demon cannibal murderer over nothing, because I literally never saw an aroace on screen before him. I literally watched Hazbin Hotel only because I heard from a TH-cam community post, made by a communist TH-cam channel, that there was an aroace on this show.
in heartstopper (though he doesnt get much time to shine in s1, and only a little in s2) issac is aroace! in s2 they explore what issac thought was a 'crush', but turned out not being so (if im remembering correctly there is a qpr thing? been a min since i have seen the show haha) the show is pretty good. stereotypical at times, but good! it has a lot of good queer rep in it. ^.^
theres a neat asexual character in Bojack Horseman :) would recommend giving it a watch if you have the time (if you wanna know who it is a simple google search will tell you)
There are characters that are portrayed as aro/ace, but not explicitly stated as such. Big problem with them, they are almost always alien/robot or behave as such.
@@inkstainedshitpoststhe word you’re looking for is a ‘squish’, when one’s desire is more for attention/spending time with a person to get to know them better, rather than a desire to date or have spicy times with them. (The phrasing is to dodge the algorithm.)
Oh my god. I joined a Hazbin group on Facebook and I tried to state your exact point over. And over. And over again. I DO NOT PERSONALLY CARE WHAT PEOPLE SHIP IN GOOD FUN. But seeing the defenses of their pornographic content get a blanket defense of "BUT ASEXUALITY IS A SPECTRUM" honestly triggered me from a life of pain and invalidation because of my asexuality. And then I'd get mobbed by people either not reading what I said and insisting that I was the weird asshole "ship-shaming" them or trying to allo-splain my own sexuality to me and saying that actually I was the one being acephobic because YOU SEE I was flattening the entire asexual spectrum down to one experience! My favorite was a long list from an absolutely infuriated someone telling me to educate myself because "Asexual people can experience sexual attraction," and "Aromantic people can pine for romantic relationships." Eventually, while the mods of that group did not decline posts that were flat out transphobic, homophobic, or racist, when I tried to give it another go to explain where I was coming from in a polite essay format, my post got declined. And then it got declined again. And that's when I decided to leave that group for my own stress. Apparently there's some kind of cRaZy AsExUaL hate mob that's like harassing people for making fan content of Alastor??? I didn't see that, but I sure as fuck did see the same acephobic defenses of their fan content over and over again that kept reminding me of every person who had ever invalidated my identity so that was nice. Anyway, thanks for saying it. I'd share this video around fan spaces, but I don't want to get mobbed again or bring people in who might leave mean comments.
@@ozpin8329 I one hundred percent agree! I actually had a nice conversation with someone who was introduced to not only asexuality but the many distinct microidentities under the umbrella of asexuality THROUGH these acephobic defenses of fan content and realized that she actually fit one of those microidentities and I cannot express the joy I felt for her in being able to find herself. I remember my own joy when I was 19 and first discovered that asexuality was a valid identity and could stop viewing myself as some kind of broken freak. So if nothing else, this rhetoric has spread awareness and for each and every person learning about it for the first time -- either as an asexual person themselves or otherwise -- I'm grateful. But that doesn't stop the acephobic nature of these defenses OR excuse them for attacking asexual people trying to reasonably point out that behavior in good faith. I have never experienced such targeted acephobia and asexual bigotry than when I was in these groups. It was insane.
I love how on multiply live streams, including the newest post-finale livestream, they state he’s AROACE. And yet people still deny it 😭 Vivzipop has said it, Alastors VA has said it…
@@starrby7790 ye. It was cool. The livestream had fan questions that the crew answered. One was from a demisexual individual who asked Amir what he thinks about being apart of ace rep. He proceeded to give a sweet answer saying “it means a lot to mean a lot to people”, and talked about Alastor being aroace
@@icemagiciangh heard that he apparently went back on that, stating that he mistakenly thought Viv said he's aroace but she actually only confirmed to him that Alastor is ace. If that's true then it seems like Viv is intentionally trying to hide if he's aro or not. maybe it will be explored later?
She also said to ship any and all the characters however you like regardless of sexuality on her Twitter, She is proship herself so that in of itself isn't a very good argument to make in all honesty, Not to mention that shipping him but Also loving and respecting his Canon Sexuality aren't mutually exclusive. Alastor beign ace means a great deal to me, and his representation has already improved my reality as well. people at school who enjoy the show are now learning of this sexuality which saves me a LOT of time and uncomfortable conversations.. it's a shame fandoms enjoy hypersexualizing and shipping every character to the point of ignoring/erasing his aroace..ness... really shows how some folks actually view us.
I'm sure this feels important to you now but the truth is you don't actually need some kind of identity group to turn down advances or to simply not engage in a conversation, at any time in your life.
I kinda like the idea of him accidentally coming off as seductive to someone, realizing it, and rolling with it to ultimately laugh in their face. also I love his pin-up on the official merch site because it's just his tie askew and he's not shirtless or something that would seem weird for his character.
Just here, happy to hear another ace expound on Alastor 😅 Honestly, would also super love an episode exploring Alastor’s asexuality (like him discovering what it even is). That’d be super interesting and just a breath of fresh air IMO.
8:45 I was waiting to comment "Isn't it harmless to have fan fiction do this" or something along the lines until I got to this part. I understand now, the issue isn't people who ship or do the art. It's people who when they get told x character is ace, instead of going "ye but it's fan fic" you go "HE COULD BE GREYSEXUAL" etc.
yeah, taking headcanons as if its canon is just disrespectful to the work, by all means, make yo crackship, make your fanfics, but dont go around claiming the LITERAL SOURCE MATERIAL is inaccurate / not complete just because it doesnt suit that
Yeah, I’d say that it’s a much larger issue across multiple fandoms where people can’t separate what they think a series/its characters should be vs what they actually are.
As someone who has been in many fandoms, i can't understand when people don't acknowledge the canon. But at the same time, i am sure i did a mistake like that in my puberty, so i try to think about them (people who can't stand the canon) as if they're just horny or something. What i'm trying to say i think is, that the "realm of imagination" and canon are separated by a thin line, but it's a very clear line when it comes to the personality of the characters. And what everyone should know is, that is not bad to make fan fiction as long as you're absolutely concious of it being part of the "imagination realm".
It's already rare for people to write friendships, for people to make fan art of that, and for fewer people to write fanfiction (gen fics) of just a really great dynamic. For example, why are people not exploring how much Charlie and AngelDust care about each other? Alastor and Niffty? And I would really like the show to explore this too. I've been waiting for more scenes with the main cast bonding and more dynamics explored. Of course, we didn't get much of this because of the heavy focus on the plot and short episode duration in an even shorter season, but it would've been nice.
I'm not even in this fandom (yet, for reasons of hyperfixation juggling and me only having one slot to fit all my fandoms in turn-by-turn), but I would like to see more content in the AngelDust & Charlie and Alastor & Niffty relationship tags plz, I need me more platonic tags for when I run headfirst into this and canonball myself in the icy, icy fandom lake
I want to write a fanfic where Alastor and Baxter have a deal and they work on radio equipment together and he forces him to date Niffty and does the Milgram experiment on him where he has him torture Niffty without him knowing she really likes it
"Haha! You wanna fuck me so bad it makes you look stupid!" Would absolutely be something Alastor would do, because even if HE doesn't give a shit, sometimes just knowing that someone does is enough for him to use it against them. Also as someone not Ace or Aro, more Ace and Aro characters please. Both for my folks who are and also just- Explore platonic dynamics more? People ain't gotta be "in a relationship" to HAVE a relationship. Hell, Shonen anime is 90% power of friendship by volume. Luffy the main character of One Piece for example is, depending who you ask- Explicitly/implicitly asexual/aromantic, and while he has a very strong bond for those he sees as friends or family, he is EXPLICITLY uninterested in sex or romance, to the point that it's actually plot relevant according to those that have been through the series. Let the gays be gays, let the A's be A's, and let us all get along. Platonically of course.
As someone who's on the AroAce spectrum, I wholeheartedly agree We don't know where HE lies on the spectrum, but regardless, it's nobody's business changing it. On the topic of anime, Mina Ashido from MHA is basically confirmed aromantic (specifically cupioromantic), and I just cannot stand seeing people ship her with anyone Respect people's sexualities, and leave it at that Anything beyond that is nobody's business except their own
I’m ace (demi to be exact) and bi-romantic. I actively have a long fic (I’m _far_ too shy to ever put it up) because being on the _other_ spectrum (autism) makes it so I come across as AroAce, when really I just take _ages_ to trust and then develop feelings for someone. It doesn’t bother me, but plenty of people were quite annoyed with me that I didn’t have an SO for years and years (got worse after turning 25). And in the fic I shall never let see the light of day-where Hell is just screwing with any Fallen Sinners to make them feel as much shame as possible, and be tormented by their own existence. So within all of that mess of “write what you know” and in some regard my pride in keeping something in character, the ship is between Alastor and OC who self identifies as straight but some form of ace, and has sort of given up the fiddly labels when Hell is oozing in s^xuality she wants basically nothing to do with and is actively put off by those who get weirdly hedonistic about s^x. She ends up being Alastor’s friend because she acts as a middle man between his tech and finding ways to Vox proof things and finding other scientists to build infrastructure to counter Vox just so someone can have a secure conversation that isn’t via Walkie-Talkie. And yes, it’s a slow burn long fic, but when they get involved, and Alastor is honest about what Hell did to him (let’s just say he got in trouble for being _as_ misogynistic as everyone else was at the time ((1920-1930s))) that the “straight” character who has not much more of a drive for _very_ long time (but the whole “I do have _eyes_ you know” thing) she just shrugs. They get involved, but sporadically since neither of them have the pressing need, and in terms of their “relationship” it’s _very_ much a “brother in arms” concept. Their bond isn’t romantic, sure, but it’s built on respect, shared trauma, and at at least two points, both of them in a fox hole. Which makes it super easy to trauma-bond with your already extremely close friend. Beside, declarations of love do occur outside of romantic pairs. Because they aren’t romantic partners, they’re… murder hobos together if this were DnD. XD
Yeah not even the hottest women in the one piece world made luffy horny and was inmune to her power😂bro dont care, he only care about adventure and food.
I joined a fandom with a canonically AroAce character (TSAMS, the character is Moon) I made a comment on a video timestamping quotes, one of them being him exclaiming that he was, indeed, AroAce, after being told he married someone while drunk A commenter by the name of DustAngel kept insisting that he WASN'T AroAce (And has done so on comments since then). English doesn't seem to be their first language and seem to like cross fandom shipping. I've tried explaining to them but I've gotten nowhere and I think I'm just gonna leave it at that.
It's only a recipe for disaster when people can't leave others to their own business. People being attracted to a character does not hurt anyone, it's their business and you don't have to view the content. As an acearo I'm more frustrated with how aces are losing their minds over this. The internet doesn't belong to you.
Asexual = A lack or no *sexual* attraction towards people (These people have little to no sex in relationships) Aromatic = A lack or no *romantic* attraction towards people (These people have little to no romantic connection in relationships) And combining the two makes AroAce people who have no interest in dating people in general
Its honestly tiring how horny shippers will try to argue the variety of asexuality by googling the difference to make their grounds sound even more solid. They're out here asking that people respect orientations when it comes to their fictional characters, but gods forbid that the red deer man they wanna peg not have a horny bone in his body. Like imagine if people kept writing Charlie heterosexual fanfiction and content. The same people arguing that Alastor is this or that in regards to asexuality, would be the same ones gravel dragging anyone who takes Charlie's bisexuality from her. As an asexual, it only goes to show how frustrating it is to navigate in a world where people keep objectifying others for their own hormonal desires.
Tbh the thing that bothers me the most (as ALSO an Asexual person, to make this clear from the get-go bc I have had people erase the fact I'm also Ace when I say stuff like this) is the plethora of people who comment on every single post that ships Alastor with...literally anyone (but Charlastor seems to get a LOT of it. And I do mean a LOT A LOT, to the point I don't look at comments on those types of posts on socmed anymore) to comment about the fact he's Ace. Even when the person shipping him, writing him, etc. Either A: Acknowledges the canon sexuality and states it's just for fun or for exploration or the usual reasons for shipping a character with another one or B: IS ALSO THE SAID ORIENTATION and uses it to explore that in a way that feels more true to them (and they know it so it's self-indulgent) or otherwise is just trying to write in a way that also gives them some acknowledgement bc holy FUCK to people tend to lean into the idea that Ace = sex repulsed/never has sex ever/is uncomfortable with sex at all and not all Aces are like that. Some genuinely don't give a fuck either way, some are fine with it and want to participate for their own individual personal reasons, etc. etc. And the majority rep usually that we get is. Repulsed Aces. So seeing it (along with misinfo comments like Charlie being a lesbian and not Bisexual, people taking the Hell's Greatest Dad song way too literally when it's clear from body language and expression that Alastor is doing it to fuck with Lucifer bc he can) so much gets. Tiring. And kind of annoying. Bc yeah, there's Aphobia in spaces, including fandom (ace discourse is...not something I'm gonna get into on a YT comment), but there's also people who tend to take the term and then proceed to use it as a bludgeon on anything they don't like to try and force people to only do what THEY want, or what conforms to Canon on a show like it's some sacred holy object and not something fanfics and fanart can use as a baseline to then tweak into which ever direction they want to explore how things would go if this thing was different, if the characters were in this situation instead of the one Canon uses. Because in the end if you don't like the stuff that's more sexual or doesn't have Alastor completely uninterested in that aspect of relationships, the filter and block buttons are right there. Use 'em. I certainly do on stuff I don't really like viewing. Bc fandom is gonna do it no matter what happens.
@@thefirecenter9624Im here to drop a much appreciated *THANK YOU* for this. Im not aro/ace but have an understanding (being Demian) of function. I also hate people essentially deciding *"Ace/aro = dies alone/incapable of love" trope.* I dont think they deserve that just from preset coding. It just stinks of...insult + pain +lonliness for those within. I like the adaptiveness of 'the scale' and how as we live it can slide a little(either way), same as all else in life. We all know there is no way of stopping nsfw artists from doing this, but at least admit you're ignoring the characters sexuality instead of trying to cover it up
@@Down_bad_cockroach NSFW fanart doesn't IGNORE his sexuality, as asexuality is a wide spectrum. It's merely exploring other parts of the same spectrum. Other aroace people, sexrepulsed too, make nsfw Alastor art as well, as a way to explore and represent themselves, through an ace character they can relate their identity to. There's no reason to gatekeep a sexuality or a whole spectrum.
Even if they don't know the specifics, Ace is used as a catch all term for the spectrum in the same way Queer is for LGBTQA+ identities. Even if that weren't the case, as someone on the spectrum I think using the term in the service of a fun joke is acceptable.
What I sometimes feel is really a downer is that people don't care about characters unless they can be shipped romantically. There is SO much value in stuff outside of romantic fanfic or fanart, and a character still can be loved and valued. It would be validating as a aro/ace person as well.
Valid. I have an OC whose relationship with a canon character (who is heavily sexualised and lusted after in the fandom - while also being unromancable and ace) is more of a mother-daughter bond. Probably because the canon character has mommy issues and my oc lost someone they had come to see as a daughter but that's besides the point. There are definitely interesting relationships out there that aren't romantic!
The title alone is so true. As someone who has read Sherlock Holmes since I was 10, I don't think I have seen anyone outside of me screaming it from the rooftops EVER acknowledge that Holmes is CLEARLY asexual. The most asexual character I have ever read about. Why do people have such a massive issue with asexuals? What's wrong with us that they think we are inferior to write about?
I screeched when she called Alastor their ace-in-the-hole. It had already been implied in the pilot, so it was great to see it fully acknowledged. And yes, Sherlock is SO ace! I don't know if you read graphic novels, but in the Tintin graphic novels, imo, Tintin is totally ace.
Oh, might need to put that on the list! Read a few of the comics when I was a kid and saw the movie (The movie was so fun no cap) but graphic novels? Not yet!@@nicoleofnowhere8842
i agree about sherlock, and that ace's need more representation in writing, i'm ace and aiming to be a professional author, just finished the first draft of my first book, so if i'm able to get that published i'm aiming to have ace protagonists for most of my planned future books!
My wife didn't know she was ace until after we got married and i encouraged her to find herself in that way i mean i miss what we used to do but im happy she's happier with herself 💜
Vivzie basically confirmed Alastor is written to be AroAce but didnt confirm it so shippers can have their fun and i think thats kinda bullshit, there's already like zero rep for Ace people, and im "technically" on the ace spectrum being demiromantic/demisexual but i dont really get much from ace rep, i still think its needed, same way how i want more non toxic transfem representation
The idea of Angel helping Al discover his sexuality/romantic orientation would be SO great. The hypersexualized character helping out the acearo one feels so wholesome.
same for the reverse! i love the idea of alastor not seeing angel as a conquest or something to have and has no ulterior motives to caring for him which he’s not used to, and angel kinda starts to learn he really is worth more than just his body
100% agree on "I enjoy my fanfiction, I know it's not real." Just ship whoever you want. If people don't agree on your ships because of their own perspective, it's totally fine, don't start war about it and ruin everybody's fun. Ships won't sink just because they sail to directions that is different from canon. Ships will exist if people believes it.
See this is it. Idk why people have to start conflicts for no reason, just go and enjoy what you wanna but nooo, people have to find ship content specifically just to comment hateful things about how it's wrong and what not. Just ignore it bruh it's not that hard
I generally agree with this, I just wish that people wouldn’t try to justify/explain themselves as much. Like how people brought up the whole “asexuality is a spectrum” thing. You can just… ship him for fun. It doesn’t have to be in a canonical way.
I thought this is the norm, didn’t realize people were fighting over ships? I mean the shows ships are canon either way so i do not see the point in fighting at all. Just pick your corner of the fandom you like and ignore the rest 🎉
I love that Alastor is written asexual because it means his violence is due to pure joy of it and not some twisted thing he gets off on like most serial killers
I'm ace and I really don't care about fictional characters and their fandoms. what I care about is representation. And I was simply happy that there exists an canonically ace char in a show. So tbh I'm glad that people even discuss and ship an ace char because it means people are talking about it, recognizing that there are actually people that are not interested in having sex and what that can mean instead of a 'weird', 'prude' character or something like that. I know it can be annoying but honestly, just let people have fun; as long they don't tell me in rl "you just haven't met the rigth person yet" I really don't give a fuk haha
God same like hes still canonly ace. Let people have fun in fanon. I ship him like crazy with Lucifer but like Im not about to think he'll actually get together with lucifer in the show. No fucking way. Thats way too ooc.
I’m asexual, kinda agree. Don’t care about representation tho, I’m pretty confident in myself and don’t care abt fictional characters having the same worldview as me. But people should be allowed to ship whatever the hell they want unless it actually involves real people. That’s just pixels, they won’t get hurt. Let them be.
Yep, well put, I feel similarly Its just harmless fun, and people write fanfics/do art of characters of non-ace characters all the time, shipping them with other characters in a way that doesn't fit their "official" sexualities They are cartoons, whatever The problem is when people do this to REAL people - that's where the line needs to be drawn And yeah I am also glad it's getting people to actually talk about and understand Ace and Aro (because yeah I can only hear "you just haven't met the right person yet" and other bs so many more times before I just lose it lol)
I care about what Viv says because I think it does matter what they say about their own work as long as it’s actually reflected in the word itself and they aren’t pulling a “Dumbledore was actually gay the whole time” Like if Viv says “Alastor is so and so” that’s what it is, it’s her character after all. And again whatever so and so is does have to be reasonable within the actual work and they aren’t just saying shit for whatever reason
I do feel like we need to be selective when it comes to the context she says stuff in. Is she shitposting on twitter, directly describing a character in a serious tone, having a laugh with friends on the livestreams, in a proper AMA context. Stuff like that's important to me :P
This, it really feels ignorant that the poster didn't even want to look and confirm if the creator of the show and the characters said he is aro/ace but shipping is fine because they didn't want to. Alastor has existed for a long time now and Vivzie said all of this before the actual show was out. It's not like JK Rowling who said this shit wayyyy after the show was done. Vizie has been stating this stuff since day one. I'm demi/ grey and as much as I love Alastor I'd never draw ship art because I personally don't like going outside of cannon but Vivzie gave everyone permission. Let the shippers be happy.
@@crimsonvexations for me personally I can’t ship him with anybody not just because he’s aroace but because I literally can’t see him being intimate with any of the other characters. Like the peridot example from the video, the intent to create an aroace character was there, the creator said Peridot was meant to be, but the actual portrayal looks at least greysexual and Lapidot is one of the most popular ships in that fandom While Alastor doesn’t really come off as anything more than close friends to anybody.
You really hit on the thing that makes me wary around "fandom", they have a problem keeping the head-canon and shipping separate from actual canon and insist that "it will happen" and become a bit violent about the whole thing. It's fun to ship, to draw, to write, to consume it all, it's not fun when trying to talk about the actual content and them thinking fan-content supersedes it.
@@LuminaSaihara Voltron still makes me so glad that I chose Getter Robo (Starvengers) for my combining robot anime from the 70s that got rearranged for the US and got a recent revival. I followed the whole thing and I'm honestly impressed how hard the writers tried to satisfy the fans, managed to get TWO "broken base" turning points and demonstrated basically every single thing TV Tropes lists as tropes that apply to a fanbase, and then managed to make LITERALLY EVERYONE angry with the ending. Voltron was such a hot mess from all the angles and I'm left whining sadly because dammit, I _wanted_ a new combining robot anime that was hitting the giant hole of childhood nostalgia that "Once Upon A Time... 14:47 THAT'S ME I DO THAT IT'S SO HILARIOUS TO ME THAT VOX HAS THIS RAGING HATE BONER FOR ALASTOR AND AL JUST DOES NOT RECIPROCATE AT ALL AND IS INCAPABLE I FIND IT INFINITELY AMUSING. Unstoppable force (Vox's hate boner) meets immovable object (the sheer power that is Alastor's Asexuality) equals disaster rivals where Vox continues to take L after L becuase he's that petty schoolgirl who can't get over being rejected by her crush so she tries to bully them out of the system but Al is just too superior for it to be effective and Vox HATES that. As a Demirose person I find Alastor's Asexuality is SO fun and refreshing and opens all sorts of new dynamics that don't require reciprocal romantic/sexual tension or relationships. Such as him being so intimidated by Lucifer's power level that he starts acting like Charlie's "dad" just to piss him off which ends up creating a rivalry that Vox WISHES he had with Al.
Honestly, I am so tired of one aro/ace people *finally* getting representation and people *still* want to take it from us. Like, yeah, sure, do whatever you want when it comes to shipping but at least *acknowledge* that they're on the aro/ace spectrum. I've seen people be (rightfully) upset when bi/pan characters get shipped with only a same-sex partner because it erases that character's sexuality. Why can't the same be for us?
Yep, that's what bugs me about the "just live & let live" attitude about the ace erasure - it's an attitude that leaks out of fandom and gets directed towards real people eventually. I've already seen it with "bi/pan people only 'count' if they're in a same-sex-passing relationship" attitudes taking us back to the 90s; it starts with "mah ships" but eventually becomes their actual worldview.
I will never understand the need for representation in entertainment. The show is good when we like it not when it has filled some sort of diversity quota.
@@skeley6776 Oh yeah, I agree. Take the infamous Velma or High Guardian Spice. They're infamous for chucking diversity at every corner and that doesn't make them good shows. Good writing makes good shows. However, that doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice to see representation. Does Alastor being Ace affect the plot in any way? As of now, no. Because that isn't the focus point of the character. Does that mean I don't care whether the representation of Aro / Ace characters is good or bad? Also no, because I want them to be good because that means it is a *good character*. It would be different if the story was about asexuality or aromantism, or something similar. But it's not and that is completely fine. The point is that the fandom erases a part of a character and it is frustrating because it's always fun to see someone you can relate to, especially when you don't see it so often.

I really appreciate this take on it! There‘s something I‘d like to add: I think because there isn‘t much ace, aro or aroace representation, when there is any everyone on the spectrum tends to jump on it, which doesn’t the conflict created by people ignoring the sexuality alltogether. You kind of touched on it in the video with people using Alastor to explore their own sexualities, or use Fanworks to create their own representation, but because it‘s such a big spectrum those works clash a lot. And as you said, that would be fine if everyone was aware of the nuances of asexuality and aromanticism, we could all just go about our day and avoid the content we don‘t like. But 1)the majority of people not on the spectrum or close to people on the spectrum see the multitude of works and then get confused, building assumptions about what asexuality and aromanticism is based of fanworks and then, often in an attempt to „stop erasure“ start fighting about it. 2), When there is so little representation, sometimes any interpretation that doesn’t fit your own experience can feel like somebody trying to erase you. I‘ve seen people who are on the spectrums fighting each other over Alastor representations because it doesn‘t fit with their own experience. I think it‘s just hard when the spectrum is so wide that experiences can completely contradict each other and representing one might feel like it somewhat erases the other. In an ideal world, we would all just co-exit, but I‘ll be the first to admit that I felt erased when people started being so insistent Alastor couldn‘t be in any form of relationship because of his sexuality, and then started my spectrum counter argument which might have accidentally talked over the people who did feel represented by that take (I‘m trying to be more mindful about it but we‘re all human and just trying to have fun with our fiction, we‘ll make mistakes). When that argument gets tangled with the people just ignoring the representation alltogether, it turns into the mess we now have…

The sad thing is there’s so much potential for platonic fics!! Like, both traditional platonic, as well as queerplatonic, are both totally on the table as far as we know, and they’re so soft and cute!
Me personally I'm a sucker for one-sided radiostatic. It's so funny to imagine Vox thinking Al is just playing hard to get meanwhile bro is just absolutely 100% uninterested but no matter what he does to assure that Vox doesn't believe it because the mf is always smiling.
yes!! i love the idea of qpc huskerdust and radiodust due to each couple being so different and leading to a LOT of learning and growing. especially as someone with sexual trauma who’s somehow ended up both hypersexual and grey?ace (idk man i slide around) i love the dynamic possibilities of both couples learning to care for each other and grow and heal in ways the other can teach them, so they can round out some of the edges of their painful parts
It’s actually pretty common for ace people to miss sexual jokes because it’s just not on our minds. Even if Alastor was aware what ace was it’s pretty on point for him to be blissfully unaware until someone shoves his nose in it like he’s a bad dog.
can confirm as a fellow ace, I have no clue what's going on half the time because of this, but it is really funny when I'll randomly decide to say some sort of joke abt sex (in the form of extreme sarcasm ofc) and everyone just looks at me like ":0 i didn't know she could do that"
I can't pick up on cues for romantic relationships either, like my friends were dating for TWO MONTHS before I knew. The worst part is that they thought it was pretty obvious.
FUCK THAT MAKES MORE SENSE....I constantly get weird jokes whenever I excessively cuss like when I'm dieing in a game.... something about "not typically getting people to say that outside of bed" or whatnot in a very...romatic like tone...i never understood it still dont actually...but i think...i think i keep missing sexual jokes...
i’m an extreme victim of this as even in the show stuff flies over my head (might be me just to focused on stuff other than dialogue but wtv) until it’s recognized especially during the adam and lucifer fight 😅😅
YES!!! I am under the aroace spectrum (grey-romantic and demi-sexual) and the way some people write queer-platonic relationships is... not amazing... My favorite "ships" considering Alastor are RadioApple where they are co-parenting Charlie and fight but make it work for her sake, RadioStatic where Vox is enamored but it is COMPLETELY one sided and Alastor thinks it's funny, and RadioRose(?) where they're just gossip girls who eat people over tea. Let characters have meaningful relationships without sex or romance!!!
RadioRose has besties vibe. I HC that Alastor and Mimzy may have leaned into QPR territory when they were alive, but that was over by the time they manifested.
one sided radiostatic is so funny i love it, i read a fic where they have sort of a qpr going on but then vox shows romantic interest in alastor and alastor is just like, "oh no" lol
Asexual = A lack or no *sexual* attraction towards people (These people have little to no sex in relationships) Aromatic = A lack or no *romantic* attraction towards people (These people have little to no romantic connection in relationships) And combining the two makes AroAce people who have no interest in dating people in general
Thank you for this 🙏🙏🙏 Something that annoys me more than anything is when people start screaming “Guys I know you’re trying to help by saying Alastor is ace, but you’re actually just stereotyping him because not all ace people don’t feel attraction ACE IS A SPECTRUM” which, indeed, is very true, but also…what they are saying is also then stereotyping, adding to this long string of stopping a stereotype by stereotyping. The grey-ace scale IS a spectrum, but in Alastors case, he falls on the heavier ace side. Not everyone just has to be in the middle or at either end of the spectrum. Bravo to this creator for not making anyone feel horrible about themselves for whatever involvement they might have in this, but being a voice of reason. More people need to see this!!
he is literally a fictional character, its not this deep. for real life stuff definitely, but seriously dont take it out on others because they like to portray a fictional character differently in their fan media / fan fiction. like seriously, no one gets mad when people make straight characters gay in fan media / fan fiction. get over yourself
Yess! This! I’m ace and I love that sex-positive asexual people are getting more attention, but people end up using the fact that “asexuality is a spectrum” to erase whatever end of the spectrum they dislike. I’ve had people assume I experience some amount of sexual attraction because “asexuality is a spectrum.” Like, yes, it is, but that doesn’t mean that everyone falls on the side of the spectrum YOU want them on. I hate when people use an ace-positive phrase to just spread aphobia.
@@limitbreak2966this person isn’t getting mad, they’re just pointing out the hypocrisy some people use to try to bend the cannon. The problem isn’t that people are headcannoning him as allo or creating AUs in which he is allo, it’s the fact that people are trying to bend the cannon to justify what they’re doing. This is “real life stuff” because it is asexual erasure, even in media. Ace people are allowed to complain that our representation is getting taken away by the fandom. There’s a difference between fanfiction/fan media and genuinely arguing that a character is a different sexuality in their cannon.
Todd's character arc was instrumental in my becoming comfortable with being ace. Like, here's a wildly popular, fantastic show portraying a pretty realistic journey of self discovery. And, he's one of the few genuinely good characters at that! It's straight forward, no hints or metaphors, and treated as something that's okay. He finds companionship and happiness and support. And it made me feel like I could too.
Honestly, I have been WAITING for somebody to post a video like this. This addresses it really well with minimal points, and I’m honestly glad someone talked about it, because whenever someone talks about Alastor ships, it makes me kinda uncomfortable, cuz of his sexuality. I also like the detail of the spectrum, and the idea of shipping characters for dynamics, not the relationship. Thanks for making this!
As a sex repulsed ace in a romantic relationship I've been thoroughly enjoying exploring both mine and other 'flavors' of Asexuality through Alastor! But you're so right that a loooot of folks out there are using "its a spectrum!" as a loophole. I'd rather y'all just leave off the ace tag on those, please.
It IS a spectrum. Stop trying to exclude other aces because they are not the same flavour of ace as you. We’re all still ace. Can’t we just let people enjoy things? I’ve not seen a single person who ships say that Al isn’t canon ace. No one is taking that away it’s CANON. But fanon is different
@TheIndigoSystem exactly! No one is saying or taking away the Canon. The fact that artists and people who enjoy shipping are being bullied and attacked isn't right either. I don't think the whole "spectrum" thing should be used as a loophole but I haven't seen any artists or writers say that Canon Alastor isn't Aro/Ace...they just are enjoying creating art of something they like because it's their fanon not canon.
@@TheIndigoSystem I probably didn't express my point right if you thought i was trying to exclude other parts of the ace spectrum, because I absolutely was not! I actually fully embrace any and all explorations of Alastor--ace and not--because he is a fictional character at the end of the day and it hurts no one to write him in whatever way you choose. I was just trying to say that (at least on ao3) folks would leave off the ace tag when they are writing him as allo, because it makes it harder to filter for stories that do depict him as ace in some way. o/
OH speaking of Alasator and Vox as a "ship" where Alastor isn't interested at all and Vox is hopelessly/angstily pining for him, I'm writing a prequel fic about this!
Yeah there are two ship names because if it radicstatic (both into eachother) and radiosilent (were vox is on cloud 9 but Alastor is aroace and doesn't get why Vox is acting like this)
Honestly the part that makes the fact that he is asexual/aeromantic so much funnier is that he has no idea what those things are. He's from the 1930s those words didn't exist, he doesn't even understand "ace in the hole". He just seemingly doesn't feel romantic or sexual attraction, and that's just how he is. A sociopath that doesn't feel any kind of emotion for other people including lust. That's all he is in his own head. Hazbin handles sexuality in a very grounded way, no one is out unrealistically flaunting it, no one has it as their entire personality. The only time it is brought up is to either make a joke about some part of it i.e. Alastor not knowing what it even is and Lucifer not knowing Charlie is gay and talking about how much they have in common for liking girls. Or to make a joke towards someone else and their perspective i.e. Killjoy saying "she doesn't touch the gays" or Adam fetishizing Vaggie and Charlie's relationship.
I do think it is wrong to say that he doesn't feel any emotion. He shows plenty of emotions. And he shows he likes some people. He hums in pleasure when he hugs Mimzy, there's the little cute monologue of "One could get accustomed". He can be sadistic and not feel empathy, but still feel emotions, it's two different things. Psychopaths/sociopaths (a dated term, but okay let's use it) can still feel affection towards some people. He doesn't feel sexual attraction or romantic feelings, but he seems plenty able of platonic affection. Tbh the idea aroace people don't feel emotions is an acephobic stereotype that thankfully Alastor is not an example of.
@@hopelesslyhopeful4396 There's clearly nuance in my statement of "no emotion", in context of my comment it isn't so black and white. Obviously I'm talking about sexual and romantic, however, it is entirely possible he doesn't feel emotions period and he pretends to do so to keep his mask on. You seem to be forgetting he isn't just asexual/aromantic he is also a sociopath and doesn't think or feel the same as a normal person You cannot possibly know what Alastor is thinking at all times and whether it is an act to keep his position or not. The only one who knows truly is the show writers. Also good attempt at trying to say I'm "acephobic". But frankly I don't care what a random person has to say about what they think of my character from a two paragraph TH-cam comment. You don't know me so you can't even begin to attempt to critique me, and I wouldn't try to do it to you.
@@thewolfgirlexpert *sighs* I knew that saying it is acephobic was going to make you get all defensive and mad, how did i know that even if i am a stranger on the interner? Dude, first, calm down. You said something that i read in a certain way. Maybe i am wrong, maybe i am right, but if you really don't care, it awfully sounds like you do. Anyway, what you said hints at a certain stereotype. I don't know you, i don't know anything about you other than what you say - that is how life works. Also, it's pretty blatant you don't know much about sociopathy. Sociopathy does not mean not feeling emotions, or not feeling or thinking like a "normal" person. It's a spectrum, i can assure you they are still from the same planet as you and me. And lol, yeah, i don't know what Alastor is thinking... Usually when one watches a show, they interpret what they see. For me, it says something that while it is not shown that *any* other character has a long time friend, while Alastor has *two*, and twice shows affection and chemistry with them - the hug and humming in pleasure with Mimzy, how he talks about Rosie and their dance. For me, it is a wonderful depiction of how a sociopath/psychopath can still have friends, feel affection, etcetera. A good way to break a false stereotype. But if you want to lecture the internet with all your immense knowledge about sociopaths, suit yourself, someone will surely listen, it's the internet.
@@hopelesslyhopeful4396 First off, if you insult someone they're going to go on the defense that's how it works. It would be the same if you called me racist, homophobic, etc etc. And I am calm, this is how I type, this is also how I talk, you'll be okay. Although it clearly went over your head what I meant when I said that you can't critique my character after reading two paragraphs is maybe you shouldn't attempt to attack someone's character with only two paragraphs to work with. I.E. calling someone acephobic when they mention someone who is asexual (but also a sociopath) may lack emotion. You're acting like I yelled "All sociopaths feel no emotion!", once again it is more grey than the point you think you're responding to. And it shows your immaturity that you can't grasp the spectrum in the conversation and instead decide to try and tell me what my own points are.
I feel like Alaster is not a sociopath, or rather, not ASPD, nor any related things. In fact, it is my professional but extremely unscientific opinion that he has no mental disorders of any variety. Within the context of the setting being fantasy, Alaster's relationship to murder and cannibalism, seems entirely connected to the magical acquisition of power. Obviously eating people to gain raw magical power doesn't have an analog to the real world; but all of human history is filled with otherwise mentally well-adjusted people who would kill others to secure political or financial power. And the pursuit of power alone does not make a person a sociopath. Generally speaking, as long as a socially undesirable behavior has a materially tangible, real-world beneficial outcome, it is psychologically considered to be opportunistic, as opposed to a mental health disorder. Look at me over here overanalyzing.

Alastor has no rivalry, though, it's all on Vox 🤣

Considering how hyper sexual and sex obsessed our society is right now, I can see why most people do not get asexuality or aromanticism. They may likely confuse it with sexual aversion or sexual revulsion.
Or celibacy, even though celibacy is a choice, whereas asexuality is not.
being sex repulsed can be a part of being aroace.
I am ace too and agree with this 100
Yeah, I once stumbled upon a radiodust video where alastor said that he was in heat and wasn’t actually ace, like wtf…
aro, possibly ace here, I agree completely.
Sadly, a lot of people can't possibly conceive of the notion of not wanting to screw something.

I said I’m asexual at work and a coworker asked me if I would take hormone therapy to fix me
🤨🤨🤨

Exactly
I have seen People adding onto It by making him....what was the term,Ah! Yeah Demi sexual
Agreed. It’s canon that he’s AroAce and that won’t change.
People can ship as long as they are respectful of his canon identity.
Same here
same, I've basically ignored shipping fandom for everything because it's just people projecting their fetishes, nothing more, it's never about the story or how characters could work with eachother, just people that want to see two characters fuck

But asexual aromantic characters are blissfully free of relationship angst and if you’re a writer or a viewer that’s boring.

@@jack_stonei mean, i get where youre coming from, but imo it cannot feel like proper representation if everywhere i go, i see ships with the aroace character. like ofc do whatever you want with your ships, but damn does it get tiring to see a canon sexuality ignored to the extent that alastor’s is. yeah, people ignore other canon sexualities, but it feels less frequent with other characters (i dont really see many ships of angel dust with women, and theyre not popular at all. meanwhile alastor ships arent uncommon)
like yes, hes canonically aromantic and asexual. but if i go look up fanfics, how many fics am i gonna find that even just hint at him being aro and/or ace and how many am i gonna find of him being in a romantic/sexual relationship with someone?
Alastor cares about nifty
Am I wrong in thinking this label is a bit unnecessary and causes more confusion than feeling embraced by a community?

"trying to justify your erasure of one of our few characters" was exactly how I was thinking so true bestie.

My favorite was a long list from an absolutely infuriated someone telling me to educate myself because "Asexual people can experience sexual attraction," and "Aromantic people can pine for romantic relationships."
Eventually, while the mods of that group did not decline posts that were flat out transphobic, homophobic, or racist, when I tried to give it another go to explain where I was coming from in a polite essay format, my post got declined. And then it got declined again. And that's when I decided to leave that group for my own stress.

Anyway, thanks for saying it. I'd share this video around fan spaces, but I don't want to get mobbed again or bring people in who might leave mean comments.
Asexuality is a spectrum - which is why people should respect wherever ace people fit into it.
@@ozpin8329 I one hundred percent agree! Exactly this. It's crazy the amount of people who do that
Yeah, I’d say that it’s a much larger issue across multiple fandoms where people can’t separate what they think a series/its characters should be vs what they actually are.
It's denial, denial, denial.
We don't know where HE lies on the spectrum, but regardless, it's nobody's business changing it.
On the topic of anime, Mina Ashido from MHA is basically confirmed aromantic (specifically cupioromantic), and I just cannot stand seeing people ship her with anyone
Respect people's sexualities, and leave it at that
Anything beyond that is nobody's business except their own
I’m ace (demi to be exact) and bi-romantic.
XD

These people are hypocrites.

RIGHT!!!! I love found family fanfic, but I always gotta filter so much romance to find it, it gets so annoying
@@marymystery4427I think thats called Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
There are definitely interesting relationships out there that aren't romantic!
as a casual shipper i totally agree, fandom is so annoyingly obsessed with romance
Oh yeah, I was shoked to see how many people though he was ''just gay''. Like no, he has not shown interest that way toward anyone!

Just ship whoever you want.

I know it can be annoying but honestly, just let people have fun; as long they don't tell me in rl "you just haven't met the rigth person yet" I really don't give a fuk haha
as a ace myself., and needed to answer to very.. weird question.. i totally agree.. Its fiction. let ppl ship stuff.
God same like hes still canonly ace. Let people have fun in fanon. I ship him like crazy with Lucifer but like Im not about to think he'll actually get together with lucifer in the show. No fucking way. Thats way too ooc.
As an asexual myself, I agree with you.
Yep, well put, I feel similarly
Its just harmless fun, and people write fanfics/do art of characters of non-ace characters all the time, shipping them with other characters in a way that doesn't fit their "official" sexualities
They are cartoons, whatever
The problem is when people do this to REAL people - that's where the line needs to be drawn
And yeah I am also glad it's getting people to actually talk about and understand Ace and Aro (because yeah I can only hear "you just haven't met the right person yet" and other bs so many more times before I just lose it lol)
I care about what Viv says because I think it does matter what they say about their own work as long as it’s actually reflected in the word itself and they aren’t pulling a “Dumbledore was actually gay the whole time”
Like if Viv says “Alastor is so and so” that’s what it is, it’s her character after all.
@@NikkiBudders absolutely context is important 100% agree

@@kaylaa2204 Rosie is the only one I could see Alastor with and it wouldn't be a sexual relationship. More like platonic life partners.
Ever heard of Voltron? Same thing happened there, even worse actually. People couldn't seem to split the fine line between fanon/hc and canon.
@@LuminaSaihara Voltron still makes me so glad that I chose Getter Robo (Starvengers) for my combining robot anime from the 70s that got rearranged for the US and got a recent revival.

Voltron was such a hot mess from all the angles and I'm left whining sadly because dammit, I _wanted_ a new combining robot anime that was hitting the giant hole of childhood nostalgia that "Once Upon A Time... Space" left in me. But its fandom devoured it, and it devoured it twice at that.

As a Demirose person I find Alastor's Asexuality is SO fun and refreshing and opens all sorts of new dynamics that don't require reciprocal romantic/sexual tension or relationships.

I love the ace arc in bojack. it happens over multiple episodes so it feels like a reall self discovery journey
You seem to be forgetting he isn't just asexual/aromantic he is also a sociopath and doesn't think or feel the same as a normal person
You cannot possibly know what Alastor is thinking at all times and whether it is an act to keep his position or not.
