I did the same trip in the reverse direction on 21st June 2010. After flying in from Sydney where we live and caught the tube to Euston . Got talking to the driver as I thought we were going up the WCML but went out to Wembly then reversed back to the NLR and dropped down to the ECML at the southern portal of Copenhagen tunnel, followed the journey to Hornsey where as a nipper Iremember all the gresley locos, im talking 1959 here. Well sadly all gone along with Mrs Lopsided and the lady killers. I wondered why we never left from KX too . Iwould have thought that platform 10 would have been long enough.. I woke up at Doncaster and the next thing I remember was Berwick. On the 22nd we drove to JohnO Groats, Iwas absolutely buggered.
Sleeper train used the ECML and WCML until it was decided to electrify the ECML from KX to Edinburgh. At this time ALL the sleepers were moved to Euston in May 1988. In 1976 KX to Edinburgh and Aberdeen (usually a Deltic as far as Edinburgh, a journey I made in February 1971 through to Aberdeen) and Euston to Glasgow Central, Perth, Inverness, Stranraer Harbour and Fort William.
I didn't know that Class 43s from King's X came to Inverness? Is Edinburgh the place where a Class 67 is decoupled from the coaches in exchange for a Class 90?
I hope I enjoy this channel of First ScotRail Caledonian Sleeper from Scotland to London the most interested of West Highlands and the highlands of Scotland. Also have you got this video of The 19.50 Caledonian sleeper from Fort William to London Euston on the same month of August a week earlier Friday 15th August 2014 ECML diversion with WCML Area closure with Hemel Hempstead and London Euston please Many Thanks and regards for enjoy this channel. Michael.
Excellent video again "rachaelmatt"!!! I really enjoy these "sleeper" video's... You took the train from "Aberdeen" to "Inverness" is there going to be a video of this trip? I know you have filmed this trip before. Keep up the excellence video's! :D
Great vid and footage like this on the public network wont be around for much longer with plug door refurbs new stock and the demise of the droplight door window. That really will be a shame when all our coaching stock are sealed units. Good footage of the train at crossovers and you caught the crossing and right hand turnout for accessing the NL line. Pity no 87 this trip. Doesnt seem you can access wembley yard from.the slow lines as I did wonder about slow-fast-goods weave just by mitre bridge jnc. to take dive under line.
Does the train crew care that you are sticking your head out the window at 80mph or are they perfectly fine with it? Just curious because they definitely do not let this happen in North America and it looks like a lot of fun, and allows you to take pictures without the annoying glass in the way.
That Voyager had his tail lights on even when leaving Euston. Odd. Nice video though, but remind me never to go on the Caledonian Sleeper. Way to long for me.

Thanks Rachael, your vids are the only way that this ex-pat Brit is ever going to be able to travel by train in UK ever again. You're great!!!

Great video! I recently spook the diverted sleeper from kings cross up to glasgow as euston was closed.

Aventanario Yep 43's still appear from kings x at Inverness. Edinburgh Waverley station is where the class 67 is replaced by the class 90.
Very well done. Very interesting route.
Due to the division what time did the sleeper get in Euston was it normal time 07:47 or was it later than that

How many coaches was the 67 and 90 pulling altogether
I'm not too sure, but were some carriages left behind at Edinburgh?
2 of the coaches from the Fort William part detach at Edinburgh and the other two, sleeping coaches join us for the run to London.
When the Chiltern service is shown leaving Euston at the end, why does it appear to have red running lights and not white?
Drivers not doing his job properly and didn't change them & check them like he's supposed to.
1:19:28 - Tail lights still on?!
Yeah they were left on all the way to Euston.
rachaelmatt Please do Trains at London Euston!
PS 51:53 Welwyn garden city

Yes I noticed that on the voyager! That's what I why I filmed it. And it's brilliant... The idea is you sleep.
You sleep.... Unless you film the whole way!
