I think professorships are why ppl want a PhD. Tenure, working your own schedule, job security. Industry is stressful. Most getting phds see how happy their full professors are. Now if those jobs are going extinct, then you are going to see a lot fewer phds, which could increase the overall value of a PhD.

I want to share my experience to you. I am doing my Ph.D for more than 4 and half years and 5 publications in pure mathematics. Today I gave an interview for the post of assistant professor in mathematics, it was an engineering college and they offer me job with salary 10, 000 rupees i.e almost equal to 140 dollars. Obviously I rejected the offer. So I am saying that in India PhD is getting worthless day by day.

That is sad. Specially in STEM. Educational institutions are business transaction institutions not want they were meant to be

Not sure if this is legit man! Can you tell us more about your background. What subject did you do your PhD on? What was your thesis dissertation topic? What institution did you get your PhD from? Who was your PI? Do you have any publications? How many industry jobs have you had? What exactly did you do there? In what company? What were your achievements? Where can I check you CV? I'm asking you all this because if I were working in industry with, let's say, a 100k+ salary, I probably wouldn't be running a youtube channel, association, whatever... If I wanted to help other PhDs transition to industry, I would write posts and make videos just as a hobby, not asking for money. Sorry for being so skeptic, but if I can check all this info, I will offer you my sincere apologies.

@@CheekyScientist Thank you for your answer. I checked your profile in LinkedIn and, while doing a critical review, I just didn’t pay too much attention to the first two elements in your experience listing for obvious reasons, well, except for the second one, which says your are a best selling author. According to whom, what platform, editing group, etc. are you a best selling author and how can I check that? Your ranking in amazon is #837,058, not even close to the first 100 places. Maybe I missed something. I don’t know. Would you be so kind to explain please?
The first element says you’re the founder/CEO of CS. Well, anyone can found an association and proclaim him or herself as CEO. That doesn’t really tell me a lot. It’s not like you were a MSL at Merck, for instance, or a Senior Scientist at Pfizer or any other smaller company for that matter.
The third element says you are President and Trustee at FBHI. Just doing a quick check, the domain is registered to Cheeky Scientist at a GoDaddy Server. Again, a self founded charity, organization (don’t know) which asks for donations. The web page is very amateur by the way, and doesn’t have links to anything. You might as well review it carefully, I spotted a spelling mistake somewhere. How can I review the donations this charity has received and to what institutions it has donated them to? All its content refers to good intentions in the future. It is just galaxies away from something like NIH.
Regarding your publications, it seems that you only have 3, none of them as first author. No wonder why you’re doing all this. Your chances of remaining in academia were pretty slim.
I haven’t done a thorough review, but will continue to do so. Hopefully I will update this post in the future. Before I go, I want to say that I found a post where people discuss their experiences being a CS member. You claim that the association has helped a lot of PhDs to get into industry, but you do not offer any evidence that this is so (success stories are not evidence). Can you prove that PhD’s who join the association have significantly higher chances of getting an industry job? Do you have any statistics, figures, graphs, studies? I couldn’t find any in you website, which, don’t get me wrong, doesn’t look like the website of a serious association.

Informative; thank you. I was more interested in the potential intrinsic value discussion. This seems more rat race related and monetarily based only. But realistic application of course.
