I had almost given up trying to find a poncho pattern that I could do. Then I found this pattern and your tutorial. I love your teaching style. AND.... I have successfully crocheted about 3/4 of a poncho. I'm thrilled! Thank you for this awesome video.
Vous êtes vraiment génial!!! vos tutoriels sont faciles à suivre et votre manière d'expliquer est agréable et simple. Je vous souhaite bonne continuation et moi je continue de vous suivre. J'adore!!!!
Your instructions are very clear and concise. You have a wonderful personality and your teaching instructions are clear and complete. Loved this video. First I've ever watched. Will be making this poncho and watching for more and more of your videos.
Hi Marley! I just completed the chic cowl neck poncho! It turned out great! It's beautiful! Pretty proud of myself, but could not have done it without your amazing video instructions! Thankyou
Marly, I loved the video! I really appreciate how specific you are and the more information you provide the easier it is for me to understand. Those colors are wonderful and I may have to make a poncho in every color. Keep up the great tutorials; thank you, thank you!
Thank you so much for making these great video tutorials! As I beginner, I truly appreciate them. I also appreciate the time and effort you put into them. Your expertise is priceless! 🌺
I made this with Lion Brand Scarfie yarn. In a camel and charcoal color change way. I used the same 10mm hook size as the pattern calls for. For the large/extra large size in the pattern I used 1 whole skien/ball and a very minimal amount of another. It turned out so well, worked up so quick, and the great part about having darn near an entire other skien left of the yarn I chose is that I can make a matching hat.
My goodness, I just discovered your channel and I love it. Your personality is wonderful and I am going to try the cowl. I love your style of teaching and I see you also have knitting tutorials so I will be spending time on your channel. Thank you and wish you a blessed day!!
Thank you for this great video. I might at last be able to crochet a project that looks good as there is so much clarity in how to construct the stiches.
Gorgeous poncho! Excellent instruction. I have to crochet this poncho it's on my list. Looking forward to more of your crochet projects. Thank you for sharing
Hi Marly. I absolutely love your video tutorials. The idea of putting a marker at the beginning and end of a row is genius! I can't tell you how many times I've been working on a project coming to the end of a row and not knowing where to put my last stitch, particularly if it's to go in the beginning chain of the previous row. You have a great personality and patient teaching style. Please keep bringing us these wonderful videos. One question on the Chic Cowl Neck Poncho: how to I adapt this pattern for a child? My 7 year old granddaughter would just love this. 😉
+Sharon Higgins you would have to adjust the length of the cowl portion then adjust number of stitch repeats you do around the cowl. It isn't hard...without doing a lot of math you could make the Cowl long that when doubled it can fit over her head. (in the video I did a total of 14 stitches I think and like 18 rows). Once you have the Cowl complete, you will adjust the number or repeats you do for the body of the poncho so it goes all around the cowl. AFter that...go along and when it is as long as you want you should be good.
Hi Marly!! Love your tutorials and podcast! You are awesome. I saw the red heart medley has been discontinued. Could the red heart soft essentials be substituted? Any other yarn subs you would recommend?
Hola marly ! te saludo desde Mexico , me gusta mucho como enseñas a tejer , tambien me gustaria saber como se teje la bufanda que esta al fondo , la color buganvilia, gracias por tu atencion , saludos !
Hey Marly. I love this pattern. Is there a pattern for this in a girls' 7/8 size? I'd love to make matching ones for my daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
Love the yarn. It's looks like a double V stitch rather than a shell. But that might also be called a shell? Can't wait to start this project but yarn is sold out.
I agree in that it could be called something else but I wanted to use the same name as written in the pattern. That is one of the big reasons it is so important to always look at the special stitches so that you know what the designer has called a shell stitch actually is ;-)
+Maryann Moreno Hi Maryann, thank you for the compliment :-) If you were to use a 4 ply worsted weight yarn (like Red Heart Super Saver) you will get a different look. That yarn is smaller than the one used in the pattern so if you get gauge with the smaller yarn you will have a very loose look and I don't think you will be pleased.
Is there any way at all to make this using 4 weight yarn? I'm trying, but using an 8mm hook. Obviously, my gauge is different, so I'm not sure how to continue. @MarlyBird, Any advice?
+7peacefrog Thank you for the kind words. For the sizing, on the pattern you will see the listing for each size. I think it also give you finished measurements so you can see if what is listed will fit your body. I hope that helps.
Marly Bird I love your work, I'm in the process of making this, but I'm confused, when your finish doing the neck part your doing two dc in a stitch, but you say your putting it in the end of the row. Are or do you mean your skipping a stitch? Thank you in advance.
Love thia projects. The written pattern it is not available anymore, anywhere. I just need to know the size of the cowl according to the pattern. Your explanation is vage to me.
the Red Heart website was recently moved to Yarnspirations.com and is experiencing some hiccups. I recommend clearing your cache and cookies and giving it another try. In the meantime, I will let them know that this link is not working.
hi marly bird can you help me please I would like to make this for my sister as a Christmas gift but how would I make it for fit her she is a size 14 uk size thank you terrì any help would be much appreciated ☺
Hi MARLY, LOVE THIS! Sadly, it's really hard, therefore unclear, due to the color of the yarn to see where the end of your rows are that your doing the "pair's/couple" stitches...??? It was gear how you used the markers to teach peeps where the end if there rows were and teaches how to recognize then in the future. Unfortunately, when you started the shell stitches. Attaching them to the cowl...it's really unclear where your actually putting the stiches in..to join HELP? PLEASE :-D Ps at the 25: Mark where you stopped to brake it down..this looks like a..? And you detailed where and how the next step took place.wonderful! That was THE detail missing in the..15:32 how to identify the "next row" . I think that's a better way of sharing what isn't quite clear to me. Your a doll! I'm not knocking your great work, you do wonderful TUTe's add I mentioned before I think it's the yarn color that made it confusing. Have a BLESSED DAY & THANK YOU FOR ask your efforts..it's a labor of love. We can see that ;-) Ok I just followed to the picot stitch. I hope outs just me. I can see what your doing..where? It was really rushed..you out the hook back into the bottom of the original chain. ? I think I'll skip this adorable cowl poncho. Bummed, haven't had this much difficulty with a pattern/video. May I just say, this was done some time ago and it seems really rushed. Some of us need to process as it's being taught. Maybe, hopefully in other videos you've slowed down. Your excitement is a delight. However, I need to take a b.r.e.a.t.h. for you. Giggle
I got lost. If we keep skipping over loops as we go then we'll run out of loops eventually. Its like decreasing in loops. .. I just don't understand. I don't know if I can finish the pattern knowing it will just get smaller as I skip loops..

That yarn is smaller than the one used in the pattern so if you get gauge with the smaller yarn you will have a very loose look and I don't think you will be pleased.

Thank you sharing! Where can I see the actual pattern if I'm unable to print it out, please?

Is the redheart Medley yarn discontinued? I could not find it on the website.
How do I count the rows? Are they only the areas with HDC or do I also count the seam as a row?
I want to say that I think I have seen you on TH-cam before and if not I am so glad now You are great and we love you!
+7peacefrog Thank you for the kind words. For the sizing, on the pattern you will see the listing for each size. I think it also give you finished measurements so you can see if what is listed will fit your body. I hope that helps.
