Plus is Toji really wanted to kill him he could do it within a second.

One of the worst choices you could choose if you want your son to grow up as a stable or somewhat decent person. His family is full of snakes that would definitely try to brainwash and manipulate Megumi if it meant them getting forward in the clan.

He sold his son, whom he named Megumi (meaning "blessed" as he wanted him to be blessed with gifts, unlike him), to Zenin because he knew Megumi had potential and believed that he would be better off there to grow his talent. In the 2nd battle against Gojo, he thought to himself that he would've normally just ran off since he already got paid but decided to fight Gojo because he wanted to deny the Zenin and jujutsu world who casted him away. After his defeat against Gojo, when asked if he has last word, he was about to say nah but remembered his son and asked Gojo to do whatever he wants (basically asking him to take care of Megumi from Zenin clan). When reunited with his son and finding out he's using the name Fushiguro, he says "Fushiguro, not Zenin huh? Good to hear" and takes himself out. Toji was mindless killing machine due to out of control cursed technique but he overcame the curse when he realized he was fighting his son. He may not have been great father but he certainly cared about Megumi.

実際、伏黒母と出会ってからは丸くなったけど、恵を産んで直ぐに亡くなってから荒れた生活に逆戻りしてる点を考えると愛してたのは確かだね。
