Dozers have very little traction sideways and are very prone to side slipping or drifting. In the hands of an inexperienced operator, it can be very hazardous. As shown in this video, the operator's best hope is to stop or slow one track and try to get the machine pointed up or downhill. I've seen operators fail to correct side slipping, which can result in an overturned or rolled over machine, at the bottom of the slope, or anywhere along the slope where the lower track happens to get traction.
