Only 2 ever built I remember seeing this one as a kid when owned by Jack Hardwick in Ewell. The 2nd one is owned by Bruv at RGM where a restoration was started some yrs ago but the guy doing it passed away and its since been slowly buried in scrap.
I did not know this unique Scammell tractor unit survived intact, the EO Hippus of modern heavy haulage, you say this tractor left Scammell,s Tolpits Lane Factory with a Rolls Royce Petrol engine, wrong ,. Said engine is in fact a Scammell 4 cylinder of 80hp as used in their lighter models. Around 1931-32 the tractor brought back into the works, its original Scammell petrol engine changed to a Gardner Oil burner , modified 6L2 of 102hp as used in small boats or railway shunting locomotives. What you did not know ,is Scammell,s Tractor is a six wheeler, on the outside looks a normal four wheel tractor somewhat larger. Each Reynolds chain drove a separate axle and two wheels each shod with two or more hoops of solid rubber, basically a driven four inline, like an old BRS Tasker Four In Line Trailer. Each driven stub axle has limited suspension travel and power from the 4 speed crash gearbox is via a short prop shaft to the first stage counter shaft ,a modified beefed up rear axle complete with expanding shoe drum brakes. Pickfords were the first customer taking delivery of 100 Tonner BLH 21 'Leaping Leena' ushering a new era in internal combustion heavy haulage .

Only needed Steve to talk about it 👍
I don't think they preserved the 100 ton trailer though; with its rear cab !
