I wouldn't usually be particularly impressed by someone making a 4 jaw chuck. They're not really that complex, and not horrendously hard to machine.......... But seeing you make one that works smoothly WITHOUT using a milling machine has really blown my mind. I wouldn't have thought it was possible. It must have taken some pretty serious thought just to come up with the build order you'd need to make the parts in. Brilliant work mate. A real eye opener of a project.
I have a lathe I paid good money for and have not been very happy with it , But you have showed me how to appreciate my equipment much more ! Very impressed with the skills you have .
Packing bearings with grease, getting engines going, pulling a new differential out of a box, heat expanding ring gears, power washing an engine block, setting cylinder sleeves. Does this guy know his stuff or what?!!! He deserved that fruit at the end. Good work, boss. God bless.
Others have said it, and probably said a lot more if the truth be known--but at the very start: where you mark, drill, and then cut the four corners from the steel plate. This is all a bit rough and ready, I thought. But watch on, I decided, and am I glad I did, mate: too bloody right I am... because your video is one of a handful of top shelf DIY's I've had the pleasure to watch. You can rest assure that I'll be keeping my eye open for your up and comings... thanks old mate, you do do good work.
I've been watching engineers for years working with their stupid academic methods but you are a school apart, I adore a lot when you find less tiring and more efficient manufacturing shortcuts I wish you good luck man;)
Incredible!! And Beautiful work my friend!!!!! Im amazed that you can make that without a Milling machine and without tons of other fancy tools. Actually I'd still be amazed even if you used a milling machine and other fancy tools! Lol im just so blown away! and Extremely extremely impressed! with your abilities to build things from nothing! You're truly an amazing Metal worker/Machinist. Your Craftsmanship Really inspires me and you're so incredible and skilled at what you do. Thank you so much for sharing and all your Hard work. Take care my Brother and God bless you and your family. -David
Sometimes i can't imagine that i can finish using only hacksaw by cutting thick metal but i have no available cutting tools, that's why hacksaw is the best way to finish this project.thanks for watching brother.
@@CHELLDONZCraftsandDIYs have you considered making a powered hacksaw? Offset on a round plate so it reciprocates, like a sawZ all? Save you half the work at least, probably more, since your mostly just guiding it, and putting pressure on the cut stroke. A band saw it is not, but sometimes a band saw is out of reach. Electric motors, and hacksaws seem to be in abundance though. I probably have 35 electric motors in my view now, and I can spot 3 hacksaws under all the junk in this messy shop.
You've done an amazing amount of work there, and good quality. My only advice would be to try and keep your fingers outside the hacksaw frame when you're cutting..... don't wrap your fingers so that they're inside the frame. Having said that, awesome job, well done.
Nice! You've done a great job with the tools you have. You probably give inspiration to a lot of people doing the amazing things you do with what your have.
@@CHELLDONZCraftsandDIYs yeah I will probably make one once I come up with all the necessary metal and parts. Unless I find a great deal on a whole lathe to start with.
i am very impressed, espesially the way you tackle such intricate processes in a very common sensical easy way. you are very talented, looking forward to exploring more of your content. like and subbed 👍
You sir have the tenacity of a chip bull. Wow I build in my garage all the time and have built tools out of steel on occasion. I could not imagine the hours you spent on that chuck lets agree for the sake of argument it had to have been over sixty. for that at my current shop rate you could have bought a 4 jaw chuck attached to an old craftsman lathe. One I assure you, would have been bolted to the bench and anchored in the floor.
I use the drill to cut plate too before I got my band saw. My technique was lay out @3/8 pilot drill with 23/64 then finish with the 3/8 and file with a course bastard file in a vice or clamped to a straight edge.
