It's so weird to me that parallel loading is an experimental feature. Back in the dial up / ISDN / early Cable Modem days, having a separate download manager was pretty much a must, and tools like Getright/Jetcar etc. were essential for me, partly to resume downloads later, but partly for multiple connections per file (as long as the server supported that). Glad to see it making a return.

    • @vytah
      @vytah 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

As you said: "as long as the server supported that". Some servers are restrictive about the number of connections you can make to them and with parallel downloading you might get a 429 and fail to download anything.

    RE: the search suggestions thing
Thanks for recommending this, chrome was forever putting some microsoft site above the Akatsuki blog(a naruto from the villains perspective fabric I enjoy) when typing "aka" despite the blog being a site I visit a few times a week and the microsoft site being blocked at my router(because I once visited it by mistake and got annoyed with it demanding all the permissions despite the fact I clearly wanted nothing to do with it).
Being able to disable that is awesome. No idea why they felt clearly malicious websites are more important than what the user clearly wants.

clicking the speaker to mute the tab's audio used to be enabled by default. at some point, for whatever reason, they decided to make it disabled by default. i never bothered looking into the flags to see if it was there or not, i simply assumed it was a feature they decided to remove. wouldn't surprise me if people were accidentally clicking the speaker and muting tabs without realizing it and then not knowing why the sound was gone

The tab audio icon was on by default in some version years ago and it was good. But Google kind of screwed it up and it is somewhat annoying to turn it on now. There's a very good reason not to enable the mute button: when the tabs are small (because you have a lot of them open), it makes it inpossible to click on the tab without muting it.
This is a problem I have with Firefox, as it doesn't let you turn this feature off. There's a CSS hack that sorta works, but then it can still be hard to click on a tab.
Also, it's not very useful. I can't remember the last time I had to mute a tab. Only videos autoplay, and you can almost always stop them with a single click.

ok going to get shot or maybe disliked,
but , folks who are on the macOS platform, theres better alternatives for chrome, that works for the flags mostly,
notably Arc and Thorium [ yes, the hoha is over , its still one of the faster web browser without the bloat like brave is going or opera these days ]
particularly , flags settings like [ WebGL MSAA Sample Count ] / [ Native GPU Rasterization MSAA Sample Count ] / [Set GPU Available Memory ] makes it just blazingly faster, in comparison, when flags are all default settings
P.s theres another good web browser , floorp from a japanese company, might be a ideal alternative for anyone looking out there for non chromium
@ThioJoe, could you do a video next, on the fastest [ customized, with flags and about:config for firefox base ] ?
and are there flags which actually do increase the persived performance of the web browser ?

I'm sure I've been using the feature you showed second for years

That thing that you are calling a "scrollbar" is called a "handle". The scrollbar is the entire "track" from top to bottom.

Curious. I do have a custom ICC profile, but Chrome's 'default' seems to be sRGB for me. Changing it to P3 D65 revealed the W in the red box on the website, but now I'm curious if Windows itself is respecting my ICC profile.
I've been using this monitor for 8 years and had no idea Chrome would have its own setting for color profiles! Thanks!

Weird... The second settings is always enabled for me. So much that I even mute accidentally some tabs, while clicking to switch to another 😅

I'm gonna use the tab muting and will try the tab scrolling (I have some pinned tabs, so hopefully the scrolling doesn't put them back to the regular tab size). Also, the parallel downloading looks good too.
Question for all: does any one know of any way to have Chrome auto-refresh a page? I used to use an extension but it doesn't work anymore. Thanks.

As one of the three remaining Firefox users I'm like: Wait, that's a special setting and not just the default behaviour? XD
