• Rethinking the Belt System - Shintaro... r
What was said in the last podcast, man, if we put a serious effort developing no-Gi Judo it's gonna be the next big thing in grappling. I want to see Judo high up there with wrestling and BJJ in the MMA and submission fighting scenes.
Badboy medicine and Shintaro with the GOAT collab for 2024 already.
Check out Brian Glick's Channel for more @bzglick - we will be posting a lot from the collab there as well
Nogi Judo is the future
Austin man you are a grappling monster, and those neck ties are savage
I gotta show this to people who say judo is useless cause people can fight without a gi
peopole who say judo is useless, are probably the ones, who tried judo for 1 year and didn't get an ippon and they concluded it doesn't work
judo is hard, it could take up to 3 years to get clean ippons
@@Quidoute not me bro. im built different
@@brannybrapz wasn't talking about you,
am talking about beginners
but still, its hard and getting ippons of good brown and black belts, same strength and age, is hard
@Ludwig_Van_Aristossine lol I'm joking homie
Bingo. Let them think it’s useless anyways, more power to us😮😂😢
Judo champions are all so humble and eternal students of the game. It's always inspiring to watch them!
Austin's instagram reels are addicting to watch.
More overhook content please!!!!!! This was gold!

@@Shigashi84 brian glick is who led me to you! Haha
@@Shigashi84hi, when I have the overhook like this I’m finding my opponent with the underhook is often able to beat me to an uchimata, is there anything I can be aware of or do that stop them, or is it just a case of body positioning and fighting for the inside foot/leg position? Thanks
I’ve watched your videos so frequently that I was wandering about throws from the overhook position because i had personal only seen videos from the under hook, and i realised i only knew what to look up because i’ve learned the terminology from your content
this is great -- I think I remember you talking about him on one of your podcasts awhile ago
please have him show foot sweeps. Love watching his instagram videos.
I just clocked this earlier this week seeing this video has confirmed so many of the theories I had
YO!!!! AUSTIN!!!!
Great video, enjoy the no gi judo a lot !!
This is such a great video guys thank you. Very concise but informative
Pretty good! My favorite option in nogi BJJ from the whizzer is the ashi guruma... yeah, kinda unorthodox, but is very effective! I throwed even some upper belts with this
Awesome! Can he PLEASE also show something off the underhook?
My observation.
He says “fake like you are trying to scare somebody into the lockers.”
To which Shintaro chuckles.
Shintaro was totally a bully in school 😂
HELL YEAH FIRST ON BADBOY CONTeNT
Love it!
The overhook uchi mata is the new single leg.....
Change My Mind
Thank GOD some more no gi judo, im having such a hard time with my grips in no gi
Austin is a killer
MORE !!!!!!!

@@Shigashi84 thank you sensei !!
Hey started off with judo and i transition to competeing in bjj. My main tds are haria gosh and the other hip tosses from the overhook. Whenever i train/compete against a high level wrestlers i get blitzed by an outside single leg. My question is how do i defend agianst the single leg in the whizzer/overhook postion? Its probably a situation where im so comfortable from the overhook bcs of my long arms that im not applying enough pressure in these situations. If anybody has any tips for being better in this position i would greatly appreciate it.
An option if they like to transition from the outside single to a double leg is when you get the whizzer, circle your trapped foot to in between their legs. When they reach across to go for the double, control their wrist, and now you're in position for an uchi-mata.
Jigoro Kano would have been proud of seeing this judo
The best move push off the elbow
Duck yeah!
Saw the thumbnail without my glasses and thought "MatPat???"
PERSONALLY. I just wouldnt let him do that. But thats just me 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
🤙
Underarm throw technique bjj
I clicked on this video cus I thought Stephen Wonderboy was on here 😂😂😂
I thought shintaro was a red-white belt
3:45 With that hold, why wouldn't the guy just heavy punch your gut when being held there?
Thanks for asking for a throw Sensei 😅
I mean, in theory they *could*, but there are a couple of things working against that as far as I can see. Now, I'm no expert in either grappling or striking, but I have a couple of years' experience in both as well as having seen questions like this quite a few times. All that said, here's my take:
Firstly, the biggest reason why they wouldn't just punch you is that this video is about no-gi grappling, where punches aren't allowed. It's an obvious answer, but it's always worth remembering that technique is always going to change at least slightly between rulesets. That said, positions like this show up pretty frequently in MMA and the person with the overhook generally doesn't have to worry too much about getting punched for the reasons I'm gonna address in the next two paragraphs.
The major reason why people don't get punched when grappling in this position even when punches are allowed is that having a good, oppressive overhook on someone makes it *very* hard to throw an effective punch. To throw a powerful punch you need to rotate your hips and shoulders into it, and a good overhook makes both of those very difficult.
The other reason it doesn't happen is that, in a perfect world, this position shouldn't be happening for very long. They're hanging out there in the video because they need to explain things, but when it's go time, the follow-up techniques happen very rapidly. When someone is tossing you around with uchi mata attempts and threatening you with ankle picks all from an oppressive overhook, it's very hard to compose yourself enough to throw a proper punch, and if you do get that composure, you're usually better off using that opportunity to fight the grappling match rather than trying to go for punches.
Finally, even with all that said, people do get punched doing this! If you see people wrestling in MMA, especially against a wall where it tends to get slow and dragged out, both people will often throw punches at each other to stay active in the eyes of the judges and try to provoke a reaction from their opponent. However, because of the mechanical issues I mentioned earlier, the person in the weaker grappling position can't usually throw strikes that are nearly as powerful as the person in the dominant position, and because winning the grappling exchange is so important, neither person wants to put all their strength into a committed attack, especially since any single punch to the body, even a very strong one, is not at all guaranteed to produce a favourable reaction. You'd be surprised what a person can grit their teeth through in a fight.
I hope that all makes sense!
They are showing the form, the basic mechanics and the positioning of the bodies. When you apply grappling techniques in combat it's supposed to be done fast, explosively and suddenly. It's like people saying "oh I would elbow him in the back of the head" when seeing a double-leg being taught. You just can't in the heat of the fight, and if you do, that punch will cost you your chance at a proper defense and will get you thrown.
@@danielmontilla1197 that's a much more efficient way to say what I took about a page and a half to express, thank you hahaha
Fights no one wins except the cops and jail time
He said it Ju Jitsu, that's not no Judo?
judo guys with their no gi grips lmfao... please show the man a proper gable grip, his thumb positioning is wrong on the 3/4 nelson at the start
it is a modified gable grip to give you more flexibility. a compromise between the S grip and Gable. he is doing it intentionally
@@kghkfyxkHa! I didn't even notice the "Judo Gene Lebell" three finger grip.
Is that what makes it a judo move?
@@kghkfyxk oh is it the 3 finger palm to palm grip? thumb between the index and middle finger? if so i saw wrong and thought it was an attempted gable grip lmfao
Austins poor hands :(
Austin is a monster but he’s kinda strange dude
The silly generic music is really unnecessary
Bro learned absolutely nothing 💀
