    My apologies to Bio.Logic's Hot Spot. They actually place the seed mix label on the bottom of the bag and I didn't see it there. The blend for Hot Spot consists of:
    48.48% Goetze Common Wheat
    26.89% Trophy Rape
    14.26% Tam 90 Annual Ryegrass
    7.86% Daikon Radish
    0.66% Other Crop Seeds
    1.76% Inert Matter
    0.09% Weed Seeds

  • @caseylyon6758

    Great review. Looking at the seed labels from big name companies blows me away. One of the Whitetail Institute seeds in this video literally had 53% inert matter in it. I know the inert matter can help with getting an even spread in some cases, but 53% seems insane.

    Important to distinguish between common rye grass and cereal rye. I'm no expert on the products you tested, and am not suggesting you gave any inaccurate information. Just want everyone to know cereal rye is a good food source for deer where common rye grass is not.

    Hey very good video one thing something I just learned today though on another person video and I’m 48 years old there is two different maybe even more kinds Rye Grass I feel like a dummy but you always learning I planted Rye grass one season and had 3 different lanes one lane was rye one was oats one was wheat every single time the deer would never eat the rye and walk over it to eat the oats first the wheat but come to find out I planted regular rye your supposed to plant
    Cereal Rye or also called winter rye and cover crop and it’s planted for cows and livestock Deer love it just make sure it’s right kind

    People please go to your local feed and seed place and at least talk to the employees about what they sell and how it compares to food plot mixes in big box stores. Spoiler, most won’t try and pawn off a mix with 25% rye grass with 30% inert matter. Just do a little research, you’ll probably save money and definitely have more attractive plots

As far as what grew the best over the 30 days, I would say the top 4 were Hot Spot, Buck Brunch, No-plow and No BS. I agree.. probably beat the top of this bunch because it offers good fall food, and little to no “filler” seed that is essentially useless. It takes a little longer to get the result you want, but planted at the right time, it will be quality food for the time you want deer on your land. Getting green coverage means nothing when it’s ryegrass, unless you are in an area with very poor fall food. This video, and the subsequent ones should be helpful for people to understand that inert matter and ryegrass are worthless for deer when there are quality options like clover and chicory right next to them.

    Terrible test. First of all you are providing a perfect seed bed, not a non tilled piece of ground. Secondly, you are paying for 60% rye in the majority of these mixes which is the cheapest seed you can buy. Better off keeping your plots one type of plant.

    • @mountainbuck
      @mountainbuck  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Haha ok bro. Clearly you didn’t watch much of the video and missed some of the salient points. I discuss the contents of each container of seeds (included the seed mix labels), how important it is to take note of the types of seeds you are purchasing and even had a discussion about rye grass. Secondly, this is an experiment I’m conducting with 10 throw and grow mixes and how they produce under the same conditions. It took time, money and effort to complete this video series. My apologies if it wasn’t up to your standard.
