      Glad to help. I moved this mount over to my Model Y. It’s a perfect mount for what I use it for. It’s especially useful for road trips.

    you can easily remove the wood dash long trim piece and run your wire completely through, down to the console area and into the USB C ports! no need to use the 12v socket

    • @notinthemanual
      @notinthemanual  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you can but you won’t get the full charging speed as the USB C only uses 5V not 9V or 12V like the power adapter can give. It’s been a long time since I made this video but hopefully I mentioned that.

      Thanks! Speedo is still clear from drivers POV if you have the phone in portrait position. It only blocks if you have it in landscape position. I use this mount 100% of the time. I have now transferred it across to my new Model Y. It’s perfect if your using an alternate navigation app to the cars system.

    Great review, i looked at these when i first got my Model 3 then realised they only had LHD market covered so that ruled it out but this changes that, thanks Matt. Just wondering how close does it get to the indicator stalk

    • @notinthemanual
      @notinthemanual  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Joe. It’s far enough away so you don’t hit your hand on it when using the stalk. It’s approx 20mm. If you have a swivel screen it will most likely hit the stalk if swivelled towards the passenger.

      Yes I had a company offer me a battery wireless charging mount to review but it needed cooling fans and wasn’t as compact and tidy as this. I’ve now shifted this mount to my Model Y and it wasn’t a big job. You don’t need to go to the trouble I did. You can just tuck it under like the video on the MagBak website. Thanks for watching anyway!

    I’m not usually a fan of the paid promotion TH-cam videos as I think a lot of people promote rubbish without giving an honest opinion. However, I trust your videos 😊
    I really wanted that mount but they didn’t make a RHD version at the time. The only concern I have with it is with the backing tape in the summer heat. I’m wondering if the heat might melt or weaken the tape. Do you know how 3M tape copes in the heat?
    Nice video and thanks for showing how to install it neatly.

    • @notinthemanual
      @notinthemanual  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John. Thanks. 3M tape is very good in the heat. I’ve used it many times over the years for things like dashcams and phone mounts. It comes down to surface area contact to weight ratio and good surface prep.

      I am planning on keep the paid reviews to a minimum. As you said if it’s a good product and the company allows you to give an honest opinion then it can be beneficial for the channel and the viewer. For my channel it needs to have a technical component to it to be of interest. I’d like to do a power frunk install video for the new Model Y I have coming next month.

    • @notinthemanual
      @notinthemanual  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It will sit there but it’s not very strong. It would fall off over a big bump. I recommend using the MagBak case. Their cases are pretty good quality and have stronger magnets than standard MagSafe.

    I’m interested in the behind steering wheel phone mount you mentioned in the comments of your S3XY buttons video. I was interested in what you said in this video about the adapter they supplied giving more power than the car’s USB-C ports. Do you know anything about how much power the behind steering wheel mount would be able to provide? In their installation video, it’s plugged into one of the connectors behind the panels instead of into an accessible port. Thanks for your videos - I love the amount of technical detail you include :-).

    • @notinthemanual
      @notinthemanual  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Roslyn. Thanks for your encouragement. I am just trying make videos that I like to watch. I also like to make each video a lesson in how something works. The wireless charging mount that Enhance Auto offer to view their dashboard app can charge up to 15W for newer devices. Older phones may not charge at 15W. A cable plugged directly into your phone from the USB-C ports will always charge your phone faster than a wireless mount. Mostly because it is more efficient than induction charging. The downside is the messy cables and somewhere to rest your phone while it is plugged in. The reason the USB-C port was slow for the Magbak charger is because it is only 5V. The 12V power socket runs at a higher voltage and current so you end up with a more powerful wireless charger. The Enhance Auto mount is very nice and I didn’t know about it when I reviewed the buttons. I think each mount serves a different purpose and either would be a great accessory. The Magbak one is best for vertical mount and the Enhance one is best for landscape dashboard type phone orientation.

    I was looking at my car today and was thinking about how much of the phone would be blocked by thr steering wheel? IHow practical would it be both naviagting the phone and screen viewing?

    • @notinthemanual
      @notinthemanual  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s just a fraction of the bottom right corner of the phone screen that is blocked. This won’t be a solution or a need for everyone. It allows me to use more voice functions on the phone with Face ID working. For long trips it is useful for apps like ABRP to see prompts and info at a glance. This will supplement the lack of Apple car play for me. I’m filming a long trip tomorrow and will assess how useful it is during that video. It really does depend what apps you use for navigation and trip planning. The improved charging is a bonus.

    MagSafe and MagBak are not compatible. If you put a MagSafe case or phone on this mount your phone will fall off and your screen might crack or the phone might get lodged under your gas pedal and cause an accident. They also don't do free returns from outside of the US. Please don't get burned like I did.

    • @notinthemanual
      @notinthemanual  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I highly recommend using the MagBak case as it has extra magnets to make it more secure in the mount. I did some testing using my MagSafe case and it wasn’t as strong as the MagBak case. I don’t remember it falling off though. I did this video a long time ago. I’ve transferred the mount across to my Model Y. I’ll throw my old MagSafe case on and check it out. My MagBak case is still going strong and has outlasted any other case I’ve owned. I’d recommend it just for that. I’ve dropped my phone many times and it provides great protection.

    • @notinthemanual
      @notinthemanual  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I drove around for a day with my iPhone 14pro clipped directly to the mount without a case. This is just relying on the MagSafe built into the phone. It isn’t a strong as the MagBak case but it didn’t fall off when driving over speed bumps or large potholes. It did rotate slightly from vertical by a few degrees and was harder to clip onto the mount with a weaker magnetic force. I still think it is MagSafe compatible but only just and definitely not a strong as a dedicated MagSafe mount. I highly recommend the MagBak case with this mount so the phone is more secure even though mine did not fall off. I think if you only had a MagSafe case and not a MagSafe phone then it could be weaker. I can’t replicate this as all our phones are MagSafe.

    paid reviews are only good if you the reviewer enjoy the product, if you think the product sucks, then feel free to decline the review, if you get sent something and then hate it, feel free to pass on reviewing it.
    if a product excites you and you really get good use out of it, yes absolutely review it. if later it lets you down, make sure to update the review in the future.
    do not hurt yourself or your channel by reviewing a product you dont like because you are getting paid to do it, anyone that watched your review and tries the product will pay back 10 fold in hate for your positive review when it was a poor product. if the product gets a lot of hate, even if yours was perfectly fine, i recommend making the review private so it doesn't continue to acrew additional hate.
